Hey Dustin, love that you got to explore Telegraph Creek, it's a beautiful area, the whole Stikine River valley is a spectacular place, mostly untouched by industry, and our Tahltan peoples are trying our hardest to keep it that way. Those horses are domesticated, owned by horse ranch in the area, they usually set their horses to roam over the fall and winter, then collect them in the spring/summer. That cliff that you filmed at the village of Tahltan, is called Eagle Rock, because the way the cliff eroded, looks like eagles wings cut into the cliff, its a sacred spot for our peoples. Its an amazing place, i haven't been to Telegraph in years.

I grew up in Iskut. We would travel to telegraph every summer to fish for salmon and visit family. Funny I never got a chance to explore old town. My friends family probably owns the horses you met. If anyone is interested in the history of Telegraph Creek and the area, read "Notes From the Century Before," by Edward Hoagland. He spent the summer there in 1966 when many of the old-timers were still around. It's a fascinating read.
I haven't been to Telegraph Creek in a bunch of years! My husband was an RCMP member out of Dease Lake and we used to make day trips to Telegraph to visit the members there. We almost bought a place there too. It's a beautiful drive with a very interesting history. You did miss the eagle in Eagle Rock, though. You traced the shape of it's wings when you were at the confluence of the Stikine and the Tahltan rivers. We used to follow the road to it's end and picnic. If I'm remembering correctly, there was a little campsite there. It was really cool to revisit it with you, Dustin!
This is the second video from this channel I've watched. It's quickly become readily apparent that we're not dealing with just another amateur TH-camr here. This is professional work. It's like what we used to see on CHEK TV Saturday mornings or the Outdoor Life Network pre-TH-cam, and even pre-internet. The main difference was that the host wouldn't carry a camera and do his own filming. He/she would have a film and sound crew with them. We used to call those big propane bottles, "pigs". I'm not sure why. 😆 "Brothely." 😆 Keep up the great work.

Very interesting! I get brought to tears looking at the beauty you show us. Then I am holding onto my chair because of the steep roads or those cliffs on either side of you wondering if I could've ever done it. I think so, but it would have been a white knuckle ride. Thank you for doing these episodes Dustin. As a first generation Canadian (both parents born in Italy) I was brought up as Canadian first with Italian heritage and I have been to Italy numerous times. The Italians do a good job of keeping their heritage and history always preserved and hopefully these videos will make Canadians understand that we are losing much of what makes us Canadians. As dumb as it sounds I actual shed tears when I see these historic towns in such disarray, it is our history! Don't get me wrong hopefully there are millions of other Canadians that feel the same way ; we need to preserve what we have a nation to show future generations that we are a great nation of determined people. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you very much. I feel exactly the same way. I have been fortunate to travel around Europe, and I was so amazed with the history. Granted it is much older there, but this is possibly the last opportunity to preserve a countries history right from the beginning.

I'm glad you finally made it into Telegraph Creek. You couldn't have picked a better time of year. Fall time is beyond gorgeous. The old house you were looking at that you were told (likely by Mickey) was recently purchase with an idea of fixing it up is ours. We were recently able to buy it back into the family. My wife's grandmother grew up in that house. The staircase was actually accessed from the kitchen addition that was built of lumber and attached to the front of the house. Like the kitchen, the upstairs was also an upgrade. The house originally had no upstairs. We removed the old kitchen because it had collapsed. We are presently trying to get the lot graded in front of the house so we can put a trailer on the lot to give us a base to work on the old place from. LDM, during the repairs when the creek flooded and washed the roads out piled debris and excess material on our lot, burying the driveway and making what was a level lot inaccessible. In this country it takes a while to hire a machine to do the work. We may have to rent a machine ourselves (we now live in Dease Lake). But we do want to restore the old house. It has been an iconic and highly recognizable welcome to the old downtown for many visitors for years. It is a shame it was left to go like that, but nothing is beyond repair - it just needs a lot more work (and money) to bring it back. :) Thank you for doing such a great job of showcasing Telegraph Creek. I hope more people will take an interest and less people will keep chucking rocks through the windows.

His grandson, Charlie Callbreath, married Charlie Vance's daughter, Julia, who grew up in the old house we bought.
Another awesome video Dustin.. I have been up to Dease & Watson Lake, I dont ever recall going down into Telegraph 36:50 it's not always humans that break windows, sometimes birds fly into old glass, and break the glass.. When I was a kid growing up in Nanaimo, the pigeons use to fly into the glass to break it, so they could get inside old buildings to make nests. and also as windows age, they become weaker and break. Windows have to face intense elements day in and day out, so it's clear why glass gets thin and then crack.

Telegraph Creek very beautiful area. Lots of history. I give thanks to the Tahltan First Nation people for preserving and showing this land for all to see and enjoy. A notable and talented North West Coast woodcarver and sculptor. Bob Dempsey, Tahltan and Tlingt First Nation decent. His work can be seen displayed at the Vancouver International Airport. If it's like Maine, it's due to logging companies. Loggers need thick gravel roads to fly their trucks down. Private companies do a way better job at maintaining the roads than any state or federal roads, too...
Its always sad seeing ghost towns, but great to see when there is a few people who still call them home and keep the history alive for the future. And the scenery out there, Beautiful, who wouldnt want to live out there
The history in this town is very interesting. The road going in is quite beautiful. Love the drone shots above the low clouds and the road and river below. Great video, plus the people interviewed.
The machine at about 32 minute mark is a hand crank mimeograph. They were basically a old school printers. Have a stencil of what you want to copy, add paper, and ink and it will replicate the stencil. My grandmother used one for a newsletter she had created.
Did not know that Telegraph creek was used as a shipping lane for supplies to Watson Lake . Learned something new again on this fantastic channel you give us. Love this ❤ channel. Great work once again Four mile zero of the Alaska hwy 🇨🇦

Thanks for taking me back once more. We went up to Telegraph Creek goat hunting in '87. Had family who lived there then, so they asked if we'd bring some apples as fresh fruit wasn't available then. All the way we kept thinking we should have brought more, then at the bottom of one of the first hills, when we stopped to let the brakes cool down, we thought about leaving them at the side of the road! Safe travels.

Beautiful work! Gorgeous place. I will never understand why so many amazing old buildings and homes get abandoned. Yesteryear detailed wood and metal work is falling apart in CA & US. It’s sad to let it fall. The view, the cliffs, the water there are like heaven on earth!

In the summer of 1983 myself and 100 soldiers in the army did an historic march from telegraph creek to Dawson Yukon to honour the original telegraph line in the 1880s ..we started out on foot in June and arrived in Dawson in late September…great memories 🇨🇦

Talking about the narrowness of the road and steep cliffs in places - yep definitely hair-raising. Try going down it and coming upon an 18 wheeler. My wife and I travelled there and stayed at the Stikine River Song back in 2010. We spent awhile exploring the town and took a ride on the river in a jet boat. Great experience - would like to go back and visit again.
I want that old truck!! It shouldn't be up there wasting away!!! Too good of shape to let go!! That is absolutely awesome to have your grandfathers old truck like that!!!
That Chevy is a '48 through early '54 model.....my fave! I've owned 22 of them! This was a FANTASTIC show Dustin....each video grows more and more vivid and in-depth. Your interview segments are amongst the best features! Thank you...again!!
It's actually a 47 through 50. 47 was the first year of that body style, and 50 was the last year before they added a wing glass to the doors. I have a 51, which is the first year with the wing glass, and last year of the turn down door handle. 52 and 53 were basically the same as the 51, but they had push-button door handles. 54 and 55 1st series were similar to the 47 through 53 but different.

In this country it takes a while to hire a machine to do the work. We may have to rent a machine ourselves (we now live in Dease Lake). But we do want to restore the old house. It has been an iconic and highly recognizable welcome to the old downtown for many visitors for years. It is a shame it was left to go like that, but nothing is beyond repair - it just needs a lot more work (and money) to bring it back. :) Thank you for doing such a great job of showcasing Telegraph Creek. I hope more people will take an interest and less people will keep chucking rocks through the windows.

@@FRLN500 thanks, Greg! Yes, Kathy's great-great grandfather was the one who brought the camels into the Cariboo. It was after that he made his way up to Glenora and then Telegraph Creek. His grandson, Charlie Callbreath, married Charlie Vance's daughter, Julia, who grew up in the old house we bought.

36:50 it's not always humans that break windows, sometimes birds fly into old glass, and break the glass.. When I was a kid growing up in Nanaimo, the pigeons use to fly into the glass to break it, so they could get inside old buildings to make nests.
and also as windows age, they become weaker and break. Windows have to face intense elements day in and day out, so it's clear why glass gets thin and then crack.

Telegraph Creek very beautiful area. Lots of history. I give thanks to the Tahltan First Nation people for preserving and showing this land for all to see and enjoy.
A notable and talented North West Coast woodcarver and sculptor. Bob Dempsey, Tahltan and Tlingt First Nation decent. His work can be seen displayed at the Vancouver International Airport.

Crazy how Canada’s back country gravel roads are maintained better than America’s asphalt roads
If it's like Maine, it's due to logging companies. Loggers need thick gravel roads to fly their trucks down. Private companies do a way better job at maintaining the roads than any state or federal roads, too...
Our roads are nearly as bad as everywhere. Some places are better than others.

Its always sad seeing ghost towns, but great to see when there is a few people who still call them home and keep the history alive for the future. And the scenery out there, Beautiful, who wouldnt want to live out there
The history in this town is very interesting. The road going in is quite beautiful. Love the drone shots above the low clouds and the road and river below. Great video, plus the people interviewed.
The machine at about 32 minute mark is a hand crank mimeograph. They were basically a old school printers. Have a stencil of what you want to copy, add paper, and ink and it will replicate the stencil. My grandmother used one for a newsletter she had created.

Thanks for taking me back once more. We went up to Telegraph Creek goat hunting in '87. Had family who lived there then, so they asked if we'd bring some apples as fresh fruit wasn't available then. All the way we kept thinking we should have brought more, then at the bottom of one of the first hills, when we stopped to let the brakes cool down, we thought about leaving them at the side of the road! Safe travels.

Beautiful work! Gorgeous place. I will never understand why so many amazing old buildings and homes get abandoned. Yesteryear detailed wood and metal work is falling apart in CA & US. It’s sad to let it fall. The view, the cliffs, the water there are like heaven on earth!

I spent about a month in Telegraph creek in the late 1980’s. What a magnificent place. I heard that a few years ago it burnt to the ground. Breaks my heart!

In the summer of 1983 myself and 100 soldiers in the army did an historic march from telegraph creek to Dawson Yukon to honour the original telegraph line in the 1880s ..we started out on foot in June and arrived in Dawson in late September…great memories 🇨🇦

Talking about the narrowness of the road and steep cliffs in places - yep definitely hair-raising. Try going down it and coming upon an 18 wheeler. My wife and I travelled there and stayed at the Stikine River Song back in 2010. We spent awhile exploring the town and took a ride on the river in a jet boat. Great experience - would like to go back and visit again.

That Chevy is a '48 through early '54 model.....my fave! I've owned 22 of them! This was a FANTASTIC show Dustin....each video grows more and more vivid and in-depth. Your interview segments are amongst the best features! Thank you...again!!
It's actually a 47 through 50. 47 was the first year of that body style, and 50 was the last year before they added a wing glass to the doors. I have a 51, which is the first year with the wing glass, and last year of the turn down door handle. 52 and 53 were basically the same as the 51, but they had push-button door handles. 54 and 55 1st series were similar to the 47 through 53 but different.
