Dump the steel that Shun supplies and get a ceramic rod and NEVER EVER use a power tool on a Japanese knife, especially one with VG10 steel. Chuck the lazy mans way and get 3 whetstones from a respectable supplier like Naniwa, a 1000, 2000, and 5000 grit. Your knives will last longer too as stone strips less metal than a power tool. If you have a Shun knive DO NOT follow this video's advice.

You don’t know what you’re talking, what you have is an opinion; no one should follow your advice.

@@ooohsnap7016 I know exactly what I am talking about MR. NO NOTHING. I have been collecting, writing reviews for Japanese blacksmiths and Japanese knife merchants and only a total idiot would take an electric tool to a Japanese knife except in the rare instance that the cutting edge needs repair. Sorry, but you are full of crap and NOBODY SHOULD TAKE YOUR ADVICE. A VG10 knife should ONLY be sharpened on a whetstone, starting at 1000 and finishing with 5,000. What I have comes from over a half a century of experience. If you use an electric tool, then you are not worthy of Japanese knife ownership, even an entry level knife like Shun, and yes it is entry level.

@@ooohsnap7016 LMFAO Mr. Know it ALL. Your knowledge would not fill a thimble. What I have comes from over half a century of experience. You obviously have not done one shred of honest research on the care of Japanese knives. At least if you take an electric tool to a Shun, you are only ruining an entry level Japanese knife. Stick to crap like Cutco.
