Thank you, gentlemen. I tried this today and the top of my mast swung left to right. I wasn’t expecting that. How did you prevent that from happening?

Inspirational! What is the long pole you used made of, how long is it and how did you attach it to the mast? I have been looking for a good system. I appreciate any info! Thanks!

A piece of 6 inch pic that has a v notch for the mast end. The other end has holes drilled through both sides. one end has a carabiner for a trapeze wire, the other has a loop for the boat winch. to stop sideways sway there is a line that goes from the end of the pvc and then down the hull where it wraps with a prussik knot. in window conditions you can leave the side stability pieces tight and loosen then or tighten then as needed with the prussik.

Thanks so much, makes sense, looks similar to the Hobie Mast Stepper 3 and in those online pdf instructions they indicate that the sideways sway is taken up by the trapeze lines being tied to the front bar on either side with a short bit of line. This also keeps them from getting tangled while raising but it's probably better to do what you setup. The PVC is 6 inch diameter, how long? You must use this all the time, has it held up? Thanks again!

I will measure it later in the week. I actually haven't gotten to use it since I don't have as good a place to launch as I had hoped and have trailer troubles (can't go to the water) but it shows no wear after stepping about ten times while playing with setup. The PVC is under compression but not a lot you can move it by hand if you want to.

Great thanks! That's a bummer! Go out this season just once and all else falls away. When there is any wind my Hobie 16 comes to my mind like a siren call that can't be ignored. The only thing in the way is stepping the mast solo which this should soon fix. I appreciate the info!

Very interested in this, but I'm not seeing how you are preventing the mast from swinging side ways before the shrouds take tension. Do you have some sort of preventer lines on each side of the mast? Ive tried to winch it up solo and the mast quickly flops to one side or the other almost as soon as it clears the stern support.

Two trapeze lines are attached by prusik hitch to the rope that goes through the end of the PVC & connects to the hulls, notice port side tensions up 0:22 on this video.

Can you send me some data about how you did this.

I saw where the original poster commented on another comment and said he did a v notch for the mast but didn’t go into detail how he attached it. Did you have any luck ? And if so clue me in ? Thanks

Just bought my schedule 40 6" pvc.
