    the transport was already on the tracks before the gates decided to come down (without knowing what the lights were doing?, didnt hear the bells?). If the garbage truck didn't proceed to slow almost to a stop then the trailer would have cleared the tracks. I dont even think the truck driver even new if came down on the trailer?, he was to busy cussing the garbage truck driver, or if he did, he should have been atleast courteous to help the train crew and take responsibility!.

    Nice video, Can’t fault the flat bed trucker, the idiot driving the garbage truck just stopped and then made a left turn from the right lane. Heck I think you can hear the flat bed trucker yell obscenities at the garbage trucks, garbage driving! At 1:55 is that the same truck? Probably drove by like Steve Urkel, Did I do that?? Now onto the crossing gate, it has a WCH Bi-directional Gate Gard, the return spring did a good job for a long arm, just didn’t have enough tension to snap it past the latch hook and lock it back into place. That latch hook is designed to reduce a violent return, in this case it was too soft. Then the stupid wind brackets, those small ones unless the gate is perfectly aligned will clip it. Newer gate mechanisms have a over load trips, so the mech keeps driving up the gate into the wind bracket, then overloads so the computer tells it to lower by gravity, then it lowers and a power up command is given. Down fall is this cycle will continue till the gate fully rises and locks into the “hold clear” position and the fault clears.

      Huh Interesting! Also both the flatbed and garbage truck ran the lights. the lights where on well before ether entered the crossing.

      Lights flash before arms go down, this gives traffic time to see and respond, THUS STOP.
      He had time to stop, but didnt, look at all those that drove through as the gates were going up and down.
      The lights were flashing, the bell was still sounding.

      @@IIGrayfoxII The majority of people if you quizzed them wouldn't know lights flashing mean you must stop, most people don't think you have to stop till the gate starts to lower.
      MUTCD sets a lot of standards
      But Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 Chapter 2 FRA section 234 contains ALL the regulations for Grade crossing signal systems in the US.
      Lights must come on a minimum of 3 seconds before gates lower, most relays (now all solid state microprocessors) drop out 4-5 seconds after the lights turn on. A semi can take awhile to stop and sometimes gets caught in this “dilemma zone” same thing with traffic lights. In this case the lights came on 1-2 seconds where the trucker would have seen them, not enough time to stop. You can see at 17 seconds he knows a train is coming and is trying to get off the crossing, the stupid garbage truck makes an ILLEGAL left turn from the far right lane! Causing the trucker to stop on the tracks, backing up is NEVER an option as you should never change gears mid crossing, the only option is to move forward OFF the tracks! Screw the damn gate, take it off and get off the crossing! Gives signal maintainers job security. In this case the WCH gate guard sprung the gate back but just wasn’t able to spring it in past the latch hook fully back into place. I also never was one for those small wind brackets. NEG makes a nicer set, we all called elephant tusks.

      @@TrainmanKight then those people should not be driving period, this is taught to learner drivers

    • @TrainmanKight
      @TrainmanKight 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IIGrayfoxII Ahh yes, getting a license is super easy in America, and we have a ton of bad drivers, however we also have bad engineering and interval times at traffic lights are way too short, same with grade crossings, 2-3 seconds is just not enough time to stop an 80,000lb truck, you can't even stop a car in that time at speed. Throw in distracted driving and other electronics in the car increase reaction time for drivers.

    The way that traffic is behaving something more is needed, perhaps a concrete wall that rises up from the pavement with spike strips?

    Those gates come down too fast. They're supposed to take a minimum of 10 seconds to bottom out once they start down (10 - 15 seconds legal range).

    • @kaseyaldrich4746
      @kaseyaldrich4746 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not at all true. There is no “legal range” for GATES to come down. The ONLY requirement is 20 seconds of warning minimum and that is from the first flash of the lights to when the train enters the crossing. The gate is irrelevant
