The thing that makes "Dilla Time" so special and unique is that it forces you to listen to the beat. You see music is mathematics. And in mathematics everything is spacial and predictable. So when we listen to music we subconsciously are predicting when we are supposed to hear the kicks and the snares probably every two bars. But when we DON'T hear the snare and/or kick hit exactly on that timing our brain tries to process it and is curiously saying "what is going on here?" And it finds the snare or kick come in at say a bar and 2/3rds or the kick come in at a bar and a 1/4th. And then when the brain hears this there is suprise and a warm satisfaction like "there it is!" Dilla Time makes the listener more attentive to the beat. Genius on so many levels!!!
