Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
Thanks for the information.. I normally fish out of my Jon boat.. I just got into kayak fishing.. just watching your videos I’ve learned a lot!! Thank you so much..
Get a good roof rack and some pull straps. I cartop a hobie outback all the time on a camry it's not a big deal. If your going long distance get some hood and trunk ties for added redundancy.
Getting back into fishing after 30 years even then was only full time bank fishing. Trying kayak fishing for the first time in my life. I appreciate your videos! The best part is that you come at it from a stand point of people with budgets. Most other channels push multiple grand priced kayaks, name brand everything and all the non sense that makes the hobby seem only fit for lottery winners. Us blue collar folks need good information that helps get the job done while being able to afford it. Thank you for that.
So when I got into fishing a coworker told me to get a fishing journal to keep track of my days and what I’ve caught. So when I do this I write down what it was, size, weight, temp outside that day, what time of day, how I caught it, any issues I found when doing it. Currently I am following my coworkers advice to start slow and keep it fun and short no long info etc just short simple and interesting. I started about a month ago and man I’m in love with it not just the fishing but the kayaking moving around and just being in nature honestly heals a little bit of me every time just wish I had more time and days to fish currently it’s like 1 time a week but lately it’s been once every two-3 weeks
I'm LOVING your videos! Great information and right to the point. No shots of making coffee or talking about your hair (yup, seen both of those and more). I'll have to learn the Palomar. I've heard of it but have trouble using it, especially with treble hook lures. Thanks! Roger, The Smiling BassHole
Thanks Roger... one of my promises to the community is quality content with no fluff... including coffee making and hair fluffing...lol. I'm glad there are folks out there who appreciate it. About the Palomar. Here's a quick video of how to tie it... It's one of my first videos. th-cam.com/video/AjI7k3LlAsc/w-d-xo.html but once you start tying you will hear a lot of people saying not to tie it with Fluorocarbon line because it "Cut's in on itself" I think that's a myth.... and here's my thoughts on that as well. Hope it helps. th-cam.com/video/sPSGxtFPwVg/w-d-xo.html

Thanks man! I appreciate your videos. I've had spoty luck fishing from the shorelines for the last 2 years. (I spend half of my time trying to untangle or un-snag my hook rather than fishing.) Gonna buy a used kayak and try out some open water fishing. Thanks for the advice! Cheers!
Yeah.. I was at a lake near me this Sat morning and caught 1 fish in two hours. I'm pretty confident in my ability to catch fish so I packed up and drove to another lake and caught 7 in 2 hours.... including a catfish but they don't count :)
@@wendellfishing I went Saturday afternoon to Ross Lake ( just a small in Ross County , 20 minute drive) tried everything didn't it nothing, that place is over fished. Wacky purple didn't work, need a fish finder. Biggest bass from there was almost a 5lb on weighted purple Zoom worm about 7 years ago.
Awesome video. But what about us northern folk? Trout and walleye and pike fishermen-ladies-people? HAHA just kidding. Keep the videos coming. Thank you
Hi Daren- Back to bass fishing after a 40 year pause (!!). I bank fished for the past several months and recently decided to step up to a kayak. I am really enjoying your channel and am learning a lot. Thanks! Question: Common sense and your teachings say to change lures according to conditions and lack of bites. On the bank I can pretty easily put on my reading glasses and cut off one lure and tie on a new one. On a sunny day I can omit the reading glasses. But I am picturing a scenario where I am in the kayak and tying knots may be a challenge. If I must tie knots I will! But it would be easier to use snaps or swivel snaps. Is this a bad idea in terms of the bass thinking something is not quite right with that lure? "Hey, what's that thing sticking out of the head of that wounded minnow?". Thanks again! EP

From your experiences, what is the fastest pedal drive kayak on the market? Specifically for bigger open waters?
Depends on the design of the kayak.. but likely the fastest is the Hobie's with the turbo fins
I’m from north canton Ohio just bought is kayak and am trying to learn
Great video bud
Appreciate it Samuel

Don’t sleep on the Texas rig
Do you need anchor bass fishing?
Most who paddle will bring an anchor as the wind will be frustrating... even with an anchor... I have a pedal drive and don't carry an anchor.
