If that was me trying to cut those boards, I'd constantly cut the rope, my boards would vary between about 1/8 and 3 inches... glad you have a better eye for accuracy!
It's easier than you'd think. After a bit of practice I think anyone would be able to get similar results. I do appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
I worked in a high-end cabinet shop for most of my life. I don't know how many times I whined about re-sawing boards on a bandsaw with a power feeder. You sir, have a ton of skill.
You're an excellent free hand miller! Great job! Those ribbon-like shavings will make really nice fire tinder. Great by themselves, or put them in a coffee can with a little diesel fuel. No fail fire starter. Enjoy your weekend, Brother.
Wow , excellent job.I can pretty much freehand a more or less acceptable board myself what's impressive for me is your breathing haven't changed a bit and you sound so calm 😂 I would be breathing from my ass after handling that heavy saw for that long and be precise with it.Well done you are doing great.
Saturday morning in Oxfordshire - strong coffee and a new Kusk video - what a way to start the weekend! Great skill with those boards, you can see how you have mastered that over the months. Youe camera work is super too - I can see the work involved in setting up the shots and editing....thanks!
Excellence on display again bro. You've a steady hand and a sharp eye there, not to mention some needed stamina. Will be great to see the finished shed, you've put a lot of work into it. Like all Kusk Wild videos, this was a good one, thanks for the work. Stay safe out there.
Amazing precision. I am watching your latest video short after midnight here in southern Germany.... when I already wanted to hit the bed. First youtube video at my 58th birthday. I'll try to stays wild😉
Not bad at all! I was thinking about making some 4" bridge timbers with my Stihl, but was worried it might be tough to go that thin. But 3/4? That is crazy. You have a steady hand with that saw, and came out with some quality boards. The wood shack will be deluxe with those planks!
Great idea brother! It doesn’t need to be perfect in the Forrest! I think it will give character to whatever you’re building without a mill! Make 4x4’s or 6x6 for the rest and scraps for fire wood! If you have to cut them up for firewood down the road so be it!
Finally someone using their head and using a peevy to handle logs. Some people where I come from, call it a canthook . But I got to say I was impressed with the straightness of his sawing. I thought I was good ( which I am 😁) but he is just as good. Very good.😁😁
Nice job, friend ! I love to do freehand chainsaw milling too ;) Only thing I may suggest, is you can use chalkline to mark a straight line and not bother about cutting along the rope. But what works for you is good for you !! Have a great day
Right on getting it done 👍 and for the 4wheeler i would check the carburetor for dirt ive had similar problems and when i would give it more gas to get out of a hole or something it would stall and then when it sat for a bit the dirt would settle in the bottom of the bole.
That was excellent. I feel your pain. Everytime I do a project, there is something unexpected that needs fixed. Great boards, though. I'm eager to see how you use them.
You make this look easy. I've cut a few square timbers this way and my surfaces never got that smooth. I ended up friggin up a guide to use with those saw mill attachment gadgets and I cna make pretty descent boards that way.
I generally cut the log in half to get rid of the heart, then trim the sides. Chalk line shows up good on the cut. Then stand the cant up and cut my boards. If you want a smooth straight cut, quickly, try a chain sharpened at 0 deg with no rackers. Smooth as if gone through a planer and shavings couple inches long. Without an angle on the teeth the bar will just follow the cut and you will not use extra gas and time cutting the groves as the angle, even 5 or 10 deg will pull the chain left and right as it grabs. You can use a full chisel.
You are accurate with you saw! I couldn't cut that accurate with Haddon Guide! Went to Hudson Band Saw mill 25 years ago. Less waste and accuracy. Put a set a Cook's roller bearing guides on it. Chain saw milling is slow hard on a saw requires a big saw. So glad I got a band saw mill...
Great video, thanks for the details on the chain grind angle, I was curious. I have a 5 foot across fir to slab in the spring and while this was super educational I think ill still rig up a mill unless you are travelling to BC sometime next spring ;)

@@KuskWild I can understand if the cuts were vertical but you're still getting them straight while cutting at an angle.
Same, I can see myself wasting a tree or two on absolutely crap boards at first 😂
I first used an alaska sawmill rig it is burdensome. Now I cut freehand and gravity helps.
Very true, you have to be pretty darn good with a chain saw.

You, my friend are a master with that chainsaw. Unbelievable.
Have to admit I wouldn't have tried doing that because I figured no one could ever get them that straight. Hats off to you.
Amazing job with the chainsaw. I would've probably rigged up a DIY jig because I know I don't have that kind of skill lol.
Been using a chalk line for 50yrs. Never failed yet.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Awesome job Ryley, you did a fantastic job
Thanks! We just have to get er full of wood now.
Thanks for taking us along, after watching your videos on free handing the chainsaw milling I will be attempting it at my own trap cabin soon.
Best of luck! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the tip!!
Good luck 👍
I've never seen anyone freehand boards that accurately! Holy cow that is something to see. You may have some water in your gas from condensation.
people always tell me this is too difficult and I wont get nice boards. Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement
After 40 years handling chainsaws today i learned a new trick... Thanks for showing son...
That was soothing to watch! You have a great touch with that saw!
Thanks for sharing a great day of work with us!
Thank you for watching!
Very impressive my friend😎
Thank you for tuning in!
I like your channel. It’s about getting the job done with the tools at hand. Great job!
Cool video, nice to see you using downed wood and making good use of it!

I tried this once many years ago. Didn’t do so well but i had junk chain and saw. U have inspired me to try again

Thanks for watching, my German friend! Always appreciate your comments. Happy birthday to you!! Hope you have a fantastic day! Take care.
Great video! Please keep putting out content! I'm liking what you're doing!
Me too
Nice Job ; You have the skills and patience for that .
Good job.
Glad you managed to cut the the boards, under the circumstances. Cheers, and God Bless!✌️🇨🇦

Very nice work. Looking forward to watch you complete the shack.
You have chainsaw skills that are incredible.. I am anxious to see all your videos, and what you are building...
I appreciate you sharing your talent here. No way I’d be able to achieve that consistency.
I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the work you put into it.
Patience, and a Long cutting bar, gives best sight pic, like the difference between a pistol and a rifle😊
I was thinking what I would do With all the little pieces of rope, good job😊
You does a good job cutting out lumber with just a chainsaw. Just as good as a mill.
You always look calm dan cool. Like your style...for that, i am waiting for more your activity in wild bro..
Very good man with chainsaw. I like it. God bless you :-)
My rope would've been shredded and gone if I was doing it that way 😆, great work Riley and definitely looking forward to your next video 🤙🤙🤙
It's easier than it looks haha. Thanks for watching!
Nice job,I tried free hand sawmilling and was surprised at how good it works with a little practice,I enjoyed your vid
Once again. I love doing that kind of work
Who needs a sawmill? 👏👏👏 Great job!🇧🇷
LOVE IT. Got to mill some walnut for my freeshed like that
Nice boards! I have been cutting boards the same way this summer! I find it way easier than the mill ! Boards are straighter too!
Great idea brother! It doesn’t need to be perfect in the Forrest! I think it will give character to whatever you’re building without a mill! Make 4x4’s or 6x6 for the rest and scraps for fire wood! If you have to cut them up for firewood down the road so be it!
Impressive alternative to much more complicated milling!

Well done Ryley!
Can't wait for the next video lol wanna see this fire shed finished 😂
Excellent!
I need to start cutting very hard Bushveld logs and you have inspired us.
I'll give a try ....
Thats some fine work! Im gonna stick with my mill! I wish i had your skill
It's amazing how you cut those boards, what an awesome job.👌

@@KuskWild do you have an update on what happened with the 4wheeler?
Like the way you cut those boards.gives me some good tips.
To be able to eyeball a straight cut over 12 feet like that shows both MAD skills and a well tuned saw. I friggin wish I could mill like that!
Wow Thats really Impressive !!! You got Skills man !!
I've tried this. He makes it look easy.
very impressive skills and an amazing saw
I'm impressed!
Great job on editing the video!
Man you are cutting some acurate lines. Impressive.
Your chainsaw skills are awesome but so are your chain sharpening skills are equally impressive for that saw to cut such straight boards! Lol ✌🏻🇨🇦
I’m handy with a chainsaw but I know enough to know I could NOT do this haha. Super impressive!
my father was a faller, you are great with that saw.
Nice job. 👍
Your videoa makes me want to go back to doing physical work instead of working in boring office :D
Pure skills. Nice work.
Incredible work.
Great video. Thank you and God Bless.
God bless you too!
Very impressive. Handmilling long, 3/4" boards by hand with a cross cut chain. And, yeah, as someone else said, that's why you want a peavy.
Nice piece of property!
That is amazing! I'm gonna try it on some smaller trees and try to get some 2x4's, 6's and 8's.
Always great content!
God Bless you and all your family. Amen
Thanks! God bless you and yours as well my friend.
Real skill to cut straight boards
Excellent 👍
Good work
I signed on board my friend 👍👍💯
You have GREAT skill my friend.
nice job
Thanks!

17:22 the saw chain looked perilously close to your toes ... take care man , great vid though 👍🙂
Nice cuts
Hi, new to your channel! Great work! I know personally how much work this takes!
