My peeves are We need some diversity in body shapes and looks (art style) because i think with the black and white bls it can be hard to actually tell who is who as the characters don't look uqince enough. I also wish we had more bls that aren't souly based off the trops I want some fantasy manga or some type of goal other than just the relationship caring the book. Like every other action or fantasy manga/anime. I want a main character of a popular anime to be gay! but not really interfere with the story like every other anime. Another peeve of mine is when a bl starts to be off topic and forgets about what happened or the characters emotions (which makes them unrealistic) Sometimes i read for the smexy stuff others I just want a slower paced bl so you can hunger for when it actually happens. Another peeve is the serious sex or extremely sexual sex like give us some characters that are having fun in bed or around the house don't make it so serious!
Even adding some more sexualities could really add to the plot. Imagine one of the character is Ace and doesn't enjoy sex but also wants to be in a happy relationship. Someone that is pan falls in love with someone who most think is ugly. A poly character who is looking for love but in the mean time being in a relationship with abunch of other people which leads to him being caught by another cheating couple and they become a 3 way relationship. Maybe a bi poly couple. Or even more bls that's centred around a older couple either in their mids or a elderly gay couple.
Haji does amazing fantasy manga. Whether it be all kinds of demonic creatures, japanese mythology etc. Body shape/look wise,I can list some,but what do you actually mean by that? Chubby,people of colour,disabled? If we're talking unique artystyle,imma have to go check my list lol
I have a the same pet peeves especially with the extremely feminine uke. I was reading an Arslan Senki yaoi doujinshi and was so annoyed. He was basically a girl with a male parts.
After getting hooked on JoJo, it helped with the diverse visuals at the least since a lot of the guys have distinct facial features and builds. I went throught the Jotaro and Kakyoin doujinshi where there really are parts that involve preparation (though I do prefer if they showed using lube more), and there's so much sweet aftercare. Lesser effeminate uke as well. When I was younger, I didn't realize that a lot of the BL with the uke saying stop was so wrong that now it felt very uncomfortable reading them after having a traumatic experience myself and I'm glad that in manga sites they place warnings if it involves drugs, dubious content, etc.
I think Side Couple Syndrome can be down to the fact that a lot of stories have the main couple be generic and follow overused tropes. But the side couple gets to be more free and wacky and so they can draw you in more.
I hate story were one of the MC's gets married an they cheat on the person their married to (that they got with caz they wanted to not caz the we're arrange Mary to save their family or a town or something they pick this person ) but cheat on them with their true love 😔 if u live them just get with them Hope there a part 3

Also just a bit of commentary regarding side couple syndrome : Its actually a trained psychological response from reading and watching media. No matter how bad the situation is for the main character in an action adventure we know the hero will always pull themselves out of it and come out on top. In a rom-com we know the main character and romantic lead will always end up together. In a detective murder mystery we know the main character will eventually get the bad guy. Yes some stories subvert the expected tropes, and if done well it can be extremely impactful. However the same can't be said for the side characters. If someone in the group is going to betray the group or if something bad or even horrible is going to happen that doesn't resolve with a happy ending, it will usually happen to the side character(s) or the people THEY care about. The story is the main characters story. A story (that might not be perfect but one that they) want to tell. Side characters don't have this luxury. Side characters have the stakes raised a hell of a lot more than main characters as its simply isn't their story. Things won't always work out for them. While we know the MC will get their payout after the journey, there is no guarantee that our side characters will get the same. We know that even if there is danger, drama and conflict with our main pair in a romantic story, they will eventually work it out. But we have no guarantee that things will go so smoothly for our side pair. Simply put ; The story is the main characters story in which they go through ordeals to get what they desire (or learn what they actually desire). Our side characters are, well exactly that, Side characters. Disposable. Able to be hurt without a guarantee of resolution. They aren't the ones the universe will help get the person they want, they are the ones who the universe can tear apart over and over. They don't always get their happy ending. Which is why we get invested and hope this time they do.
Easy explanation for the second paring syndrome. They just simply have better dynamics together. We watched our first pair meet and slowly realise their feelings, but the second pairing... Most either start off on the wrong foot, have a long past with each other already, or just straight up feels more relatable to us. There's also the fact that, we KNOW our main pair will get together inevitably, but the second pairing has always been something we never expected. And that unexpected connection draws us in better.
I've been neck deep into that fandom and the only mlm ship I've heard of is fontcest and that's just *N o.* Wait wait wiat wait While I was checking for typos Are you talking about A U sans ships?

Y'know when i find a BL manga that i like, turns out that the storyline was to fast ;-; and Everything was just happening so fast that my brain couldn't prosses the storyline and in the end even if the storyline was good and it would have probably been a great manga to read, the story just ended up looking like shit-
I believe that side couple syndrome happens because, as you said, they don't get much screen time, which in turn makes you more curious about how there story plays out. You want to see how there relationship grows in the same amount of detail that you get from the main couple, not just small bits of it.
I love how people say "I hate this trope since it's overrated" but it's actually realistic and never seen anymore whereas "Omg I love this trope" Is like- Big bara bottom boy and cute, eccentric top boi- which don't get me wrong, is fine, but like- ITS EVERYWHERE LMAO

I have a the same pet peeves especially with the extremely feminine uke. I was reading an Arslan Senki yaoi doujinshi and was so annoyed. He was basically a girl with a male parts.

After getting hooked on JoJo, it helped with the diverse visuals at the least since a lot of the guys have distinct facial features and builds. I went throught the Jotaro and Kakyoin doujinshi where there really are parts that involve preparation (though I do prefer if they showed using lube more), and there's so much sweet aftercare. Lesser effeminate uke as well.
When I was younger, I didn't realize that a lot of the BL with the uke saying stop was so wrong that now it felt very uncomfortable reading them after having a traumatic experience myself and I'm glad that in manga sites they place warnings if it involves drugs, dubious content, etc.
I think Side Couple Syndrome can be down to the fact that a lot of stories have the main couple be generic and follow overused tropes. But the side couple gets to be more free and wacky and so they can draw you in more.

Also just a bit of commentary regarding side couple syndrome :
Its actually a trained psychological response from reading and watching media.
No matter how bad the situation is for the main character in an action adventure we know the hero will always pull themselves out of it and come out on top.
In a rom-com we know the main character and romantic lead will always end up together.
In a detective murder mystery we know the main character will eventually get the bad guy.
Yes some stories subvert the expected tropes, and if done well it can be extremely impactful. However the same can't be said for the side characters.
If someone in the group is going to betray the group or if something bad or even horrible is going to happen that doesn't resolve with a happy ending, it will usually happen to the side character(s) or the people THEY care about.
The story is the main characters story. A story (that might not be perfect but one that they) want to tell. Side characters don't have this luxury. Side characters have the stakes raised a hell of a lot more than main characters as its simply isn't their story. Things won't always work out for them. While we know the MC will get their payout after the journey, there is no guarantee that our side characters will get the same.
We know that even if there is danger, drama and conflict with our main pair in a romantic story, they will eventually work it out. But we have no guarantee that things will go so smoothly for our side pair.
Simply put ; The story is the main characters story in which they go through ordeals to get what they desire (or learn what they actually desire). Our side characters are, well exactly that, Side characters. Disposable. Able to be hurt without a guarantee of resolution. They aren't the ones the universe will help get the person they want, they are the ones who the universe can tear apart over and over.
They don't always get their happy ending.
Which is why we get invested and hope this time they do.

Easy explanation for the second paring syndrome.
They just simply have better dynamics together. We watched our first pair meet and slowly realise their feelings, but the second pairing... Most either start off on the wrong foot, have a long past with each other already, or just straight up feels more relatable to us.
There's also the fact that, we KNOW our main pair will get together inevitably, but the second pairing has always been something we never expected. And that unexpected connection draws us in better.
