      @@ericjohnson2894 so i actually sold this car a few months back. Bought it for school back in early 2015, and drove it all the way until the end of last year and drove it here and there this year since i've graduated college. It was mostly hwy driven in the 5 years-put 49,9xx km on it in that time so 10k a year all summer and no winters.
      I have since bought a 1985 ciera brougham with the buick 3.8L so if you check out my channel and go to videos, it is there! Been having some issues with it, and it is set to go back to the engine rebuild shop it came from. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

    I love it! I also love the sound of those very unique iron duke engines. I really wish I still had mine but it wasn't well taken care of in the past so the body was rusting out so badly and even though it was repaired a few times, it was just getting too bad and had to be sold. It was a sad day.

      hey you and me both I guess that's the way it goes 😥. Learned to drive on my mom's Cutlass Ciera 3 spd automatic. And being a kid well I kinda blew the transmission....a few years later she decided she wanted a Camry just like everyone else 🙄🙄. The dealer offered only $100 for the trade because the transmission slipped. So mom went and had the transmission replaced and still traded it to the same dealer. To this day I still have to wonder what was wrong with that woman 🤔

    ...brings to mind my cousin, Karin's '85, Cierra 4-door w/ diesel...noisy thing...
    ...she had loaded her car for a return drive from Denver to her home in Gillette ( NE Wyoming) having strapped her 2 yr. old daughter, Lisa into her car seat...having grown bored, little Lisa wriggled free and hit the auto lock with the engine running...Karin didn't have a spare...so Lisa became the center of attention as Arvada Fire engines and EMT vehicles surrounded my Mom's house...all the neighbors gathering and a few passing motorist rubber-neckers to boot...
    ...nice example; and, if given routine care, should go hundreds of thousands if miles...

    • @snipindowntown
      @snipindowntown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Diesel nowadays is quite rare. This is the equally as noisy 2.5L iron duke, though it would be neat to acquire the diesel version. I have since sold this car, however I purchased a 1985 with a 3.8L buick v6 which has also been known for reliability.
      Great story by the way. What a day that must have been.

    Nice car. The 2.5L Tech IV engines in those 1980s A-body cars are better-sounding than any other engine they offered for those cars.

    • @snipindowntown
      @snipindowntown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks man! It needs front doors (typical on an A-body)..and the iron duke is really slow haha. I don't push the car, mostly because it's the old prehistoric 3 speed auto. And I myself have always liked the sound of that 2.8L. What motors did they offer for ciera in '86, do you know? Surely there couldn't have been a carb option. I know diesel was gone in '85.

    • @Mina_Fox_90
      @Mina_Fox_90 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      snipindowntown
      The 2.8L carbureted V6 engine was last offered for 1986 A-body cars when the fuel-injected ones took over. The diesel engine was defective but only few owners didn't have any issue with it.

    • @snipindowntown
      @snipindowntown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      true. My parents had an '85 with the 3.0L I had no idea the 2.8 was carb in '86..would explain why only the '86 dukes got the fuel injected badge on the front quarter panel. So 2.8 FI was universal and standard on all a bodies? Olds moved away from their own motors? must have been a budget parts bin GM idea.

    • @Mina_Fox_90
      @Mina_Fox_90 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      snipindowntown
      Yes. I believe the Oldsmobile division stopped offering engines after numerous complaints and that there was little to nothing to improve those issues, and not to mention I found information that the Oldsmobile diesel engines had less horsepower despite being greater liters.

    • @snipindowntown
      @snipindowntown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's too crazy man..Although for a big four cal, the iron duke has i believe 93hp..there were probably 1.8L and 2L with more hp (prelude) etc. GM was just behind haha. Their cars were so heavy, yet the power plants never changed. Btw, did you own an a-body, or did you grow up with them? or are you simply like me..born in the 90's and love older cars? Love my boxy classics. Saw an '86 parisienne today-uncommon in Ont, Canada

    I learned how to drive on an 88 5 speed in the mid 90’s. 2.5 fwd 5 speed. It overheated a lot and the block got cracked. It was a fun car but the ac didn’t work and I’m in Florida so that was hell.

      man... thats a unicorn of a car nowadays. I've actually sold this one and bought an 85 (1 year older) with a Buick 3.8 that has more get up and go! Ill bet the 5 speed was fun though. had the chance to drive an 88 celeb 5 speed this past summer. smooth. that had the 2.8

  • @ViperJay5
    @ViperJay5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Once again, I'm taking a trip down memory lane. It's hard to believe how unique and powerful that engine sounds yet it wasn't a powerhouse by any means. I don't think I've ever quite heard any other engine hum like an iron duke engine. And something else I've never mentioned but even hearing the door open and letting go of the door handle, I remember that particular sound quite well (At 0:08). I also took notice in one of your other videos that yours has the rear defrost, ours didn't. It was literally as basic as you could get. I can't tell but does this one have the full bench seat in it or is it a split bench?

    • @snipindowntown
      @snipindowntown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the clanging of the door handle as they got loose with age. A guy I worked with who had to be in his mid 40's said he was given an 87 cutlass ciera iron duke when he was young (first car) and when i stopped by to visit him in my car, he immediately recognized the door handle clang when I closed the door. If you like the iron duke that bad, I'll upload another video for you. It's at my grandmas once again stored for the winter so when im there i can take a video.
