I have a 90 Olds Cutlass Ciera with the 4 cylinder engine and 365,000 miles on it. I'm not sure what that is in kilometers, but it must be about 500,000 km. It has always run very well and had very few problems. I also used to drive an 85 Cutlass Ciera Brougham that was the same bronze color as your 86. It had the 3.0 L V6 with a 2 barrel carburetor. That was quite a long time ago now.

On average… 2 minutes. It’s fuel injected (throttle body) but I had just purchased the car off the 2nd owner who has it for a few months and had initially bought it off an older gentleman so the car sat and needed work. Body was mint but needed a tuneup. Had this car until 2020 or so, sold it and bought an 85 ciera which I have a few videos of now. This was my very first time starting the car.. and was on my way to the mechanic to have it fixed so it’s a miracle it started! Never had an issue after that

Tapping on the throttle does not cause a "kick down". The ecm brings the idle down based on time and temp. A dirty or malfunctioning IAC can cause issues as can vacuum leaks. I know this because I worked on and around these cars at a Buick Pontiac dealership back in the early 1990's. I still have 2 tech 4 powered cars. Btw, the iron Duke was renamed the tech 4 (IV) when it went to efi. Fun video.

Hi guys and gals, I'm 65 had my olds for 9 years still in nice shape cause i don't drive it in snow at all its garaged. On the Cold start mine does same thing So i do this first turn key to (on with ignition lights on the dash). Shut it back off do this 4-5 times first in 10 second intervals then start it. Mine starts right up cause your giving the fuel pump in the tank enough time to push fuel up to the OBD l injector to pressurize the system. In summer time i don't have to pressurize it like that one or two key turns and up running. I have 159,535 and still going well. Just put good oil in engine on changes like Pennzoil or use PennGrade High performance oil it expensive Cause it got Zinc in oil made for racing engines, and you can go 6,000 miles on PennGrade oil. Do maintenance as normal. Like to hear back from you gals and fellas on yours try it please. thanks Donald.

It had about 50k on it in 92 and my parents drove it into the ground and put about 230k km on it in 9 years. We too let it go in 2001-it was an Irvine Chev/Olds car. My bus driver used to compliment it when my parents would wait at the stop until we got picked up. By then it was 2000-2001 and the car was on its last legs but i'll never forget looking out the bus window at my parents sitting at the top of the street in what was considered an old car then. Any advice ? or opinion. Thanks

    • @snipindowntown

That actually sounds pretty fair to me. Advice would be to clean all the sludge in the engine bay when the engine is out, as well as check the trans when the engine is out. Check all your fuel/trans lines as well as brake lines. The 3.8L is a great engine so advice would just be to do the seals and check fluids. I spent more than what you have quoted so to me it sounds fair
