Y'know what it is? She has no ego when singing. She commits herself to delivering the song to the best of her fantastic ability caring nothing for what anyone thinks of her look, her language, anything but delivering the song.
Of the 40 or so Angelina songs that are vocal masterpieces, this one is near the top. I think she puts much more emotion in it than does Lana, IMO. No antics, dancing or fireworks, just Angelina, a backing track & a mic in her house. She starts with her smiling face waving to her fans, then the 12 yo goes to work, she gets serious, closes her eyes, opens her mouth & lets it flow. She invites you in & it's just a beautiful thing to watch & to hear.

At 64 years old I can honestly say that I've discovered on my own a great many of the musical artists that make up the bulk of my "playlists". A few others, on the other hand, I have "discovered" through listening to a "cover" of the song and then looking up the original artist. Angelina Jordan herself, however, has helped me to "discover" more "originals" than all the other "cover" artists I've ever listened to COMBINED, and at the same time has placed herself in my list of greatest of all time "originals". And she is still only 14. I can only pray that I live to be 100+ years old so I can see what she has coming for us in the future. (btw. Best of luck to any brave soul who tries to "cover" this young lady.)

Angelina doesn't cover songs, she completes them. Fable I agree completely, Angelina's voice fills the room and it also fills my soul. No other vocalist in my 62 years has made me feel anything close to how I feel listening to our barefoot princess. She takes me to her special world that she visits while singing. I try my best to make people aware of Angelina and encourage every one of her angels to do the same.
I listened to Lana Del Rey yesterday and my pick is ANGELINA hands down.
If I were a recording artist, Angelina is about the last person I'd want covering my hits because she most likely would do them way better than I did. IMO, this is better than the original and I like the original!

Like you I absolutely loved this track by Lana Del Rey. I then discovered Angelina Jordan and while listening to her tracks, my eyes nearly popped out when I noticed that she had covered Young and Beautiful. I could not believe how fantastic Angelina's version was and must have played it over and over for days. I still love the original when I hear it on the radio but its AJ version that is on my playlist. Btw great reaction.

For a couple of seconds there, I thought Angelina must have made you forget the original artist of this song lol. Just kidding, however, Angelina does have a way of covering a song like no other.
Another improved original from Angelina - even though I really like Lana del Rey. And no worries: Angelina has already accomplished incredible things at fourteen and is growing a bigger audience by the minute. She will be recognized (and loved) all over the world in due time. What we have here is a talent for the ages, not for fifteen minutes of fame. There is no rush!

This is probably among my top 3 favourite Angelina covers. The texture in her voice is classic Angelina on steroids (in a good way 😂). I love how intense she is and how immersed she is in the vocals and the narrative. I love how the intensity is communicated through the intense focus visible on her face and audible in her vocals (rather than via the dramatics that some other artists depend on). And I love the results of that intensity. Sounds that seem to float on a breeze. Over-the top beautiful vibrato that actually supports the emotion and meaning of the song rather than just being there just because. Her subtle but powerful vocal fry that wiggles its way into your soul whether you realize it or not. This performance is about achieving powerful emotional impact through nuance and subtlety.
I also like how we can see her slip into her vocal trance from that smiling happy go lucky kid at the start of the song, and then back into that kid at the end. Not just because it’s cute but because of what it illustrates about the multiple dimensions that make up her character.
Maybe what I love most about this song is that it encapsulates all the best things that make Angelina Angelina.

found your comment at the end to be quite prescient...when I think of the musical genres listened to over the last sixty plus years, it flows mostly from exciting and novel to the present where the emotion engendered by the artist and the composition, whether brand new or "classic" is the real need of the soul. I will regret not being able to follow her entire career as I have with so many of our contemporaries who were leaders in their time. Little doubt that the claims from fans will be fulfilled as to the greatness to come....
Musical knowledge isn't everything. As far as I am concerned you got everything spot on. Her voice does not just sit in the background. Her voice just takes you over. The first 10 seconds of this performance is perfection for your ears. Deep, smooth, flawless and guaranteed shivers down your spine. Oh. And she just has to do the next Bond theme, she just has to. She has the perfect voice for a Bond theme.

fil, there is something interesting that you need to comment, she is practicing at home, she is like a teenager who does covers to practice, if you look objectively, her videos only show how a young woman continually practices to improve her technique. Of course, we music lovers get the idea that Angelina Jordan is doing in these 132 videos that have been uploaded (recorded from her home or in presentations) as shows, it also happens with haters who do analyzes, forgetting all that their videos they are simple youtube videos ... of a little singer practicing LOL

Like many who can feel the emotions that Angelina is channeling in her singing, one can feel your passionate energy - in both your musical appreciation, and your 'bigger picture' viewpoint. It's almost like Angelina sings in stereo while everyone else is in mono.. or maybe it's that AJ sings with two voices instead of one..or (like you said earlier with your bread anology) her tone is just thicker than everyone else. You know, there are just some things you don’t say because it may be impossible. I was listening to her singing and I could swear she sang 2 separate notes at 1 time. I can’t stop thinking about it.
For me, it's like Angelina 'paints' a song with her voice. A true artist. At the same time she's like a whisper that surrounds you and makes you want to follow. An autumn leaf floating on a breeze except Angelina has control of the breeze and just plays with the leaf keeping it dancing in the air. If that makes sense. Lol!

Loved the reaction Fable, you are correct that this young girl should be so much greater as she is a pure artist of song. Unfortunately, the vast majority of singers use so many gimmicks, whether it be Auto Tune, ridiculous outfits, vulgar lyrics...etc.. to create a persona of stardom..created is the key I guess. When someone like Angelina comes along with just pure, raw, unbelievable talent, far above the majority of "created" pop stars, the audience who appreciate just plain TALENT is just much smaller. Hopefully this incredible young woman will eventually be recognized for her superior talents.

I have to say, your explaining how the instruments raise you up and drop you down, really got me listening to the instruments playing. This was only possible because I have listened to this song several times before. I, like some others have said, would remark ‘oh there were instruments playing’? Her voice is so mesmerizing, me wearing head phones and leaning forward so I don’t miss a word., and no other sound matters but her voice. Great reaction as always, keep em coming.

You have nailed one of Angelina's tells. She closes her eyes so you know she is locked in. Possessed. I have heard some criticize this. Hmm. I think a singer who becomes the song is no longer performing. That person is the song. Closing her eyes makes me know it is special. Another tell is that she becomes a cute bobblehead. I have seen it since the first time she sang Summertime. Her head went back and l was transfixed.

What's so fascinating about Angelina to me is that even when she's often out of tune like here it's still so good, it's almost better because of it, because it sort of shows how she is not about boasting perfection or skill, but about the music itself and the emotions she can communicate through it, and that's just something magic that can't be replaced by any perfect studio version.

I just subscribed. You're growing on me and I enjoy your reactions. Two things I would like to bring up: I was listening to this while I was shaving and the music was coming from another room. Angelina sounds like a musical instrument! And she did this cover at 12-13 yrs old! Also, about her popularity: Her main audience averages somewhere over 30 yrs old! The other teen boppers get attention from much younger people. But, and tell me if you agree, when I introduce Angelina to younger listeners, they immediately recognize her "greatness" (yes, greatness) and are in awe like all of us. But, the question is will they follow up and listen to Angelina on their own? Now that she's with Republic Records will they "suggest strongly" that she should record something the kids can relate to?
