Lee said that this is how he envisioned the song to go. Since he first recorded it, people have always wanted the original version so he never got the chance to change it until now. Love this version!
This song has me in tears every time I hear it. As U.S. Veteran it touches my heart remembering all those that gave their lives defending this great nation. Indeed, God Bless America.
So Home Free originally did a video for this song when Chris was still a member in 2016 that was filmed at Mount Rushmore, but this was a big project they put together, and it was actually in the running for a CMA award, but it did not make it to the nomination round which were announced today. The guys have been doing this song, especially at their summers shows since the early years of the group which started in Dec 2000. And if you listen closely at the end you can hear Adam doing the fly over sound just like he did in the 2016 video. There is also a Home Away from Home video (I think its ep 19) on the making of this video if you are interested.
Great Reaction!! Lee wrote this song. He still has a strong voice at 78! Loved his.addition of God PLEASE Bless the USA! At times our nation seems divided. This is a good reminder that the U in USA stands fo UNITED!!
I'm retired U.S. Air Force, and damn proud of it! These AF members, HF, and Lee Greenwood, make me PROUD every time I hear this version! Makes me sit up taller! Still a lot of good left in the U.S.!
The US Air force has a group called "Tops In Blue" that perform all over the world for our troops, and they perform every year, on the 4th of July in Cheyenne Wyoming. Love them.
Lee Greenwood wrote and sang the original. At the age of 77 he’s still got it! I believe that the Singing Sargents and the USC Navy have some videos here on you tube. Great reaction! Also....there is a video that released just days before this that follows the process of the making of this video. I find it very informative and interesting.
I love this rendition so much. There are several veterans in my family, so this song always has had a special in my heart. God bless all who serve and sacrifice for freedom. Thank you military and law enforcement for your service! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They are called the Air Force Singing Sargeants. They are various Sargeants in the Air Force who want to sing just like the military band. The original is written or sung by Lee Greenwood.
Wasn't this awesome? My intro to Home Free was their earlier rendition of this song. This takes it up another notch with Lee and the Singing Sgt s. Thank you! ^_^
They are all pros that sing with the armed forces...full soldiers who can flat out sing!...some of these guys go on and become AMAZING studio musicians. I was a professional a cappella singer with a group called Soul Support for a decade. These guys can bring it!
This is a Lee Greenwood song. He wrote it and released it in 1984. When he decided tp update it he asked both the The US Air Force Band and Home Free to join him. He's the first singer here. Oh and the castle in Nashville is his own home. (Lee's 77 yrs old here)
I'm former Navy... each service has a "Musicians Rate" they serve for formal/informal parades they are enlisted, officer, but most KNOW music. Its built into their advancement to grow as a musician, composer, director. Most, if not all, play more than one instrument, then there are the vocalists equally as accomplished. There are various groups within too, Jazz, dinner bands, full orchestras. Sometimes the different services will combine musicians for events, some services are used exclusively for some events. IE: Marine Band serves the White House.
Kathy here, first and foremost, thank you to your brothers for their service and to your family for the sacrifices you make while they serve. And your reaction was awesome! Thanks for the review! And yes it was during the pandemic. The US Army Choir are the ones singing.
This song pulled me up and out of a bad place when it dropped back in July. I look for anyone who reacts to this song, so that I can see their reaction to how awesome it sounds. Thank you for reacting to this video and a big thank you to both of your brothers who are serving in the Air Force. Don’t let all the “noise” in this country fool you, the vast majority love this country and support the people who risk their lives to protect it. God bless, my friend.
Just found your reaction! I am a Home Fry and I could not agree with you more. Thank you for all that you said. We must stand together because we are all in this together! God bless you. 😊
This song by Lee Greenwood is a special song for all the men and women who are serving, who have served or is serving. This song has so many meanings to it like love, hope, peace, joy, being helpful, and just having time to yourself and also spending time with your family and friends
So, we're not going to talk about that high note that Lee Greenwood landed at the end of the song? I love this man's voice and he's still got the goods. Loved your reaction.
Lee Greenwood who is the original songwriter and singer of this said that he had so much freedom to do whatever to this performance of the song than he has ever had cause everyone expects the original way the song is to be heard. This is by far the best cover of this song that I've ever heard
This was written and preformed by Lee Greenwood for many years. Home Free did a cover of it some time back, and then they decided it was time for a collaboration. Lee still brought it, even at 77yrs old. He even said that having Home Free singing this allowed him to do a little to change up what he had always done with it, and it was a whole new level.
When Lee Greenwood recorded this way back when the producers had decided not to release it as a single, just to have it on the album and the head of the studio basically said NO!!! This is the first song released. Thank God for that man.
You can actually go into the Air Force as a musician. The United States Air Force Band is a U.S. military band consisting of 184 active-duty members of the United States Air Force. It is the Air Force's premier musical organization and is based at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.. Within the band there are six performing ensembles: The Concert Band, Singing Sergeants, Airmen of Note, Air Force Strings, Ceremonial Brass, Max Impact. Collectively, these musical groups perform a wide spectrum of styles, including classical, jazz, popular, patriotic and ceremonial music. The mission of the Band is to deliver musical products that inspire emotions, create positive impressions and communicate information according to Air Force objectives for the defense of the United States of America. The Band is part of the United States Air Force Bands Program, which consists of 8 active-duty stateside bands[2] 2 overseas active-duty band locations and 5 Air National Guard bands.
I am enjoying your Home Free journey very very much !!! They are a great group of very talented singers, and they all have a great sense of humor that comes out in their music often. They are endlessly entertaining. Thank you for your great reactions !!!!
Having past and current family in the Air Force, yes, the AF Band are active members that do play instruments; however, this group is the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants also active members of the AF.
There is a behind the scenes of this one....not sure what the called it.....it was released before they released the final video. Probably a the making of God Bless the USA. Great reaction. God bless and stay safe
Ran through your posts and didn't see their newer release "Everybody Walkin' This Land". Tim's message at the end sums it up very well. And independent artists like Home Free, Upchurch and the rest won't usually have you catch a copyright infraction. They depend on reactors to share their content.
Original is by lee Greenwood he released it in 1984 And nobody absolutely nobody sings it like him this version is amazing but nobody has the impact that his voice does when they sing it
I'm not particularly a home free fan, I'm more of a Pentatonix girl. I think they are amazingly talented I'm just not a country music fan. But I remember when this song came out, and it was huge because I recall it was during the Gulf war I think part 1. And I mean everybody was playing this song. I believe this version was made during covid, so maybe there was something good came out of that whole thing. Still prefer Pentatonix though LOL. But I'm giving thanks to all of our service people. I'm from a very strong military family, and I give a particular shout out to my uncle and my grandfather who served in world war 2. Both men had survived and came home that were very changed men and ended up drinking themselves to death. Also a big shout-out to people that are often forgotten about which is the families of our service people. It's definitely not easy sending your father or your mother or your wife or your husband or brother or what have you off and waiting months and sometimes years with worry and loneliness. Believe me the families served too.
Darren Rust took Chris Rupp's arrangement for Home Free and expanded it for Lee and the Singing Sergeants which is the top vocal ensemble in the USAF. The USAF Airmen of Note is the continuation of Glenn Miller's service big band. Their concert band is amazing. Check out some of their holiday flash mob videos to appreciate these truly wonderful musicians. My friend, Bob Thurston was the chief arranger for the USAF concert band and was the mastermind and arranger for the flash mobs. th-cam.com/video/gIoSga7tZPg/w-d-xo.html
USAF Singing Sgts...I believe tim just recently posted about having lunch with one of the sgts the blonde forgive me i can think of her name they met up on tour break ...God bless
Proud to be an American and grateful for all those who sacrificed to secure our freedom. I’ve loved this song since growing up and hearing Lee Greenwood singing it on the radio and this version is just as great. Yes, pride in our country used to be taught and encouraged where songs like this would be played on the radio and not just on holidays. Thanks for posting this Damian! If you are looking for additional requests then I ask that you check out I Just Came Back (From a War) by Darryl Worley. Thanks again mi amigo!
I know one of them. They have to do an audition before they join the AF. Then they do boot camp. They are all Sergeants in rank but specialists in assignment thus the extremely high quality of singer in the group. There are several recently dropped videos for the Singing Sergeants.
@@matthewireland1125 Thank you, my comment was vert short on details. I was just pointing they are active duty, other branches have these types of units.
🇺🇸
Lee Greenwood wrote this song; first released in 1984. The Air Force singers are named the Singing Sargents an ensemble group of the AF Band.
Yep remember when this came out. First sandbox/
Huge Lee Greenwood fan. The man was I believe 78 or 79 when he did this version.
Lee said that this is how he envisioned the song to go. Since he first recorded it, people have always wanted the original version so he never got the chance to change it until now. Love this version!

That was the first song/video I heard them do and was hooked from then on. I was amazed with Adams beatboxing.

No matter how many times I watch this, it still gives me the chills.
Same for me, Cindy, and especially when Lee raises his hands (in one of the thumbnails) appearing to be giving thanks to God.
U.S.AirForce 1969-1973
The US Air force has a group called "Tops In Blue" that perform all over the world for our troops, and they perform every year, on the 4th of July in Cheyenne Wyoming. Love them.
Just found it. It's called The Making of God Bless the USA. It's a little over 14min but really interesting. Thanks again. Love Home Free

I personally love the US Navy's Sea Chanters.

Unique is a good for it! I really love the way this song turned out this second version with Lee Greenwood...always gives me chills.
They are called the Air Force Singing Sargeants. They are various Sargeants in the Air Force who want to sing just like the military band. The original is written or sung by Lee Greenwood.

if you listen at the very end, Adam the beatboxer does a fly over sound like on the singers last note.
The ones that are performing now are part of a group called the singing sergeants, which is part of the US air Force band.

Every branch holds professional musicians.

Had to subscribe, my fellow Texan!
Nice reaction...you were talking about the military bands, may I suggest the US Navy's band singing One Voice. It's a must see.

God Bless you, too, Brother. (And I'm an old white woman!) Love this rendition. I think Lee Greenwood did the first recording, but not certain.
Love, peace and prosperity to you, as well.

Please react to "Mission: Jingle Bells" by Voiceplay.
Stop pausing the video. You need to just let it go and get the full effect. This is the one pet peeve I have with reaction videos.
