Here are the two cables I mentioned in the video (Amazon links):
USB-C to DisplayPort cable (for MacBook and Mac Mini): geni.us/dpcablemac
HDMI 2.0 Cable (for Mac Mini): geni.us/machdmi

For those having trouble only getting 120hz even though your monitor is capable of 144hz. Change the settings IN your monitor using the monitor settings and make sure it will accept signals of 144hz. My refresh rate was determined by "response time" and I set to highest.

Kind of tangential thing I'm thinking about. The Magic Mouse polls at a lowly 90Hz, below a standard office mouse at 125 now, or 1000+ with higher end mice. Once they bring ProMotion to macs, they're going to have to update it at that point, surely? When screen refresh rates go above mouse polling rates is when you really can tell the sensor skips.

it’s weird pro motion macs exist now and i have one and even with a logitech mx master 3, the display (1080 144) limits itself to 60hz when using the external mouse. but as soon as i touch the trackpad it jumps back to 144

144 Hz is such a treat to use for general use too. I was having headache using 60 Hz after a very long time so I gave it to my brother and got back to windows gaming laptop. I will have to say Windows on a gaming laptop gives absolute best browsing experience no matter what the browserbench says. But I use linux as my daily driver because of my work and love for linux too... But that is little off for browsing compared to windows but I can deal with it. You dont get bouncy scrolling in browser on linux. If I will rate browsing experience it will be as follows : 144 Hz windows >(slightly) 144Hz linux >>> 60 Hz mac os = 60 Hz Windows >(slighlty) 60 hz linux. Plus I was not able to install linux natively was a huge bummer so bye bye macbook. 144Hz all the way. Also system performance rating will be 144Hz linux >144Hz windows >>> 60 Hz linux >60 hz macos ~ 60 hz windows.

      @Logan-yi3dn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I can say without a doubt that MacOS on a new MBP 16 M1 Pro with ProMotion is the smoothest, snappiest browsing experience I've ever had. Feels much better than my desktop which had a 5800X, 3080 Ti FTW3, 16Gb 3600MHz, and 1TB Samsung NVMe 980

    • @Logan-yi3dn

    Couple of notes here:
    - This is an older version of the game (well FreeFortnite is still a thing); newer versions are better optimized
    - macOS version of Fortnite always was a bit choppy on frame rates and had some weird hiccups
    - you never closed the lid of your MacBook even though it should theoretically work just fine when it's charged at the same time (this eats up sources to render the other screen)
    - unlimited FPS is again not needed, cap it 144FPS to align with 144Hz; sure you didn't hit that mark, but still it's a theoretical waste of resources when the game can actually pass that mark
    - the game weirdly performs worse on the lowest settings, set shadows to at least one more bar and you should theoretically get a performance boost (no clue why, but that's how it was for me back in the days)
    - the game is running using Rosetta, no?
    Overall great video.

as far as i heard fortnite was a first game optimized for m1. fix me if im wrong but it does not run via emulation no? i think apple played on marketing and asked epic to optimize fortnite before lounching m1

Did check about this after watching MKBHD's video on upcoming products of Apple... where he mentioned the next gen is coming with a dedicated GPU. That should boost up the FPS a lot more.

Hi, did it end up working for you? I'm about to buy a m1 mac air myself, and am not 100% sure if this works for everyone. Also, if it did work for you, did you use a cable, or a hub that is then connected to a cable? Thanks!

Hey! My monitor supports Type-C. Wanted to know if It's possible for me to mirror my M1 Macbook Air to my monitor using a USB-C cable. The charging cable apparently is unable to transfer video, so I wanted to know what kind of USB-C will be compatible. Thank you in advance :)
