I just bought a second pair here in the States on sale for Amazon Prime day (not sure if that exists elsewhere) $162 US, an absolute steal! I agree about the break-in, it's been super tough. I started with size 12 US in January, I wear the same size in African Rangers and Razorbacks. Both are just right. The first pair of Numzaans feels a bit loose (the stiff leather contributes). I just received the new pair (in natural) 11.5 US. The toes are just a bit snug, but everything else feels better than the size 12s. I don't have much hope for break-in on the ultra thick toe box, we shall see. Best of luck with your family medical procedures.
You could add oil and lotion to the inside of the boot. It will soften and loosen up the fibers for an easier break in. Not to mention that the conditioner properties will prepare the lining for the heat and perspiration from your foot.
Your experience and even-handed appraisals are exceptional -- thank you! As a recent convert to JG, I've bought several different types and have very much appreciated their small but significant improvements over the last few years. The wide lasts have become an absolute necessity for me lately, so it's nice to see other material and design choices aimed at improving comfort being made. Your ball peen hammer is one of several techniques for improving the break in of footwear made of heavier leathers. There are also hobbist hammers with a convex face broader than the typical ball -- so safer to use on a seam or field area. For the anvil or inner face use in these gentle persuasions, a stout wooden shoe stretcher or simple block of hardwood fitted snugy will suffice. Some repair shops might even have a pair odd-looking cast iron tongs with one side ball-shaped and the other ring-shaped, the leather being pushed outwards by the ball from inside and restrained by the encircling ring on the outside.
I wish you both a speedy recovery from your health issues. Thanks for a great follow up review .I have Numzaans and they are built like a Panzer tank. That toecap is double layered and must be about 5mm thick. I can testify to their break in issues but they will last a long time. Thanks for showing us about the Bootlosophy lifestyle.
Here's to a quick recovery for both you and your wife! I picked up a pair of Numzaans on prime day. I ended up sending them back as I didn't really fall in love with them. With that said, the leather was surprisingly nice, and the boots felt like very high quality boot.
Teik, thank you for the review of the JG Numzaan Boots. Sorry you had such a hard break in. I purchased mine last January in Veg Tan with the lug sole. I ended up returning and sizing up 1 full size to accommodate my orthotics. I was afraid that thick leather was going to be a bear; however, these are the most comfortable boots I've purchased to date and the ones I reach for when I do not need to wear a more attractive pair of boots. For this price point, they make an excellent pair of Beaters. Blessings and speedy recoveries for you and your wife. See you soon! Be well!
Well engineered. Good quality control. A very impressive consumer product. Not for the squeamish if you care about things like third world wages and the sustainability of global shipping. I don't know what the prevailing wage is for a shoemaker in South Africa, but they claim to pay 100% of the full wage. I'm not concerned about the environmental footprint of global trade. I do care about saving money. I bought mine on Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday.
@@ike780 Standard wage is interpreted differently, depending on geography. In Thailand, the standard wage is 45 baht an hour. 100 baht is about 3 dollars US. Can someone in that country really live on 24 dollars a day? I don't know. Can someone in South Africa live on, or slightly above, whatever the standard factory wage is? Maybe the standard is a liveable wage. I don't know. Just keeping an open mind. We are missing any real data such as what the standards of living are, costs of living , and what the wages are.
just got my pair in today. First off the quality is stellar. In terms of fit I wear a size 12 in sneakers and went with a size 11.5 in these and they fit perfect. I gotta say I was really surprised at how heavy these boots are but even though they are really heavy they actually aren't to uncomfortable. I've seen lots of comments saying these are hard to break in but they actually aren't that uncomfortable right out of the box, and this is coming from a guy who normally wear Adidas boost, Nike react and zoomx and New Balance Fresh Foam sneakers. Really the only uncomfortable part so far is the ankle collar, although I think if I was wearing actual boot socks it wouldn't be as uncomfortable.
They might be my favourite looking of the Jim Green gamma. Not looking forward to breaking them in, but they do seem like they are worth the effort! Thank you for the review and I hope the health situation at home improves dramatically!
They are worth the break in!! I got a pair back in June and they did take a long time to break in but now are so soooooo comfortable while feeling sturdy and supportive. My toes aren’t squished and the rest of the boot conformed nicely to my foot. Can’t recommend enough!
Wish you good health to you and your wife! Also, as I do with most of Jim greens videos, “darn it! Another great boot that I’ll have to purchase. They just keep coming up with great designs”
Yours truly has had two ablations both done differently. After the first one my heart was back in rhythm 95%. I should have called it good since I felt pretty darn good. But my doctor wanted to get that last 5% and it didn’t work. I’m now back in a-fib 90% of the time but I don’t feel I’m in a-fib. Please wish Amanda the best of luck. The procedure is a piece of cake!
@@Al_lan thanks so much. She had an arterial ablation, fed through the groin. She was up and about in 24 hours but had to rest for a week more due to the pain in the entry point. No heavy lifting for 2 weeks. She never felt her AF and it was discovered incidentally, so she’s finding it hard to gauge if she feels “better” and we await a check in 3 months when the ablation scarring has settled!
Teik, do you think this gusset design helps in uniformity with tongue and break-in? This instep and hot spot isse for break-in on many PNW, thick leather, especially certain Thorogood boots is a real thing. Very clever design here from Jim Green. Excellent video, thank you!
All the best for you and your wife. I hope that you both have a full and speedy recovery. I have to confess though, these are my office and church shoes. I must of been lucky, because my Numzaan's were a lot easier to break in than my Razorbacks.
I bought a pair about 6 months ago, but haven't worn them once. You get a lot of heft for the money but, to me, they're too chunky for everyday use. I'll likely use them as a hiking boot. For anyone who enjoys a chunky statement boot such as Doc Martens, these might be a nice alternative.
👢I’m really excited for their Russell like moccasin boots that they are releasing soon. They look awesome and well constructed. Blessings to you and your Wife. 💙
Speedy recovery to you both! As for office-wear, most people I know wear sneakers or even something like hiking boots to the office. I guess I don’t know a lot of lawyers or CEOs though, just teachers, scientists, academics, IT people and such, but not all tradies or anything. I guess these boots might be quite casual if you’re in marketing or a business role like that in a larger city. All depends on cultural context.
I often put conditioner on smooth leather boots to soften the leather or bee wax if suede or rough out. Only wax flesh boots I don't touch it out of the box.
As a proud owner of a few Jim Green boots, don't sleep on them. They are great boots and well worth the price, which is very affordable. Tough boots that will last a very long time, even if you have a tough on boots job/work.
Wishing you and your wife a speedy and complete recovery. I have been looking forward to your thoughts on the Numzaan since your unboxing video. I made a couple videos of the Numzaan on my channel as well.

My dominant eye focused at infinity and the other focused at 40cm for reading without glasses. First time since 6th grade that I didn't need glasses to get around.
Wishing you both the best for your health! And style > comfort has got to go, as a shoe trend. Comfort and function truly are everything for a pair of boots. At least for those of us who work hard for a living. That's why I enjoy my JG ARs, they feel great for tough work, and when all is said and done, they still look better than 90% of boots that are suitable for those environments, most of which are $500 custom PNW boots.
Ablation surgery is a hit or miss procedure, hopefully it works...The good news is that it is a relatively minor surgery as far as heart surgery goes, so complications are very unlikely. I'd say you might want to surprise the wife with some new shoes or boots :) The synthetic heel counters are really kind of tough, then do eventually soften up as the resins get broken apart on the fibers...I wish they'd go with a soft leather heel counter, even maybe consider using scraps. Compared to Nicks JIM greens break in fast, about a week or 3-5 days of wear. The round wide toe is so superior in fit to Nicks HNW last...it allows a lot of free movent of the toe joints but no slippage. Although slightly cheaper materials than Redwings...you are getting a lighter boot which adds a ton of comfort with each footstep. I think people in between a genuine wide E width or wanting somemthing in between EE and EEE width will love the fit. I take my JIm Green Razorbacks hiking more than my Nicks because...they fit better, are lighter and more agile. If Jim Green would build a 400$ boot with thicker higher quality leather components, I'd buy it for the last alone...its a great last for certain feet shape/sizes.
Warm best wishes to your wife. Thanks for the video too! Beyond materials and craftsmanship there is style and comfort. A style that doesn't hurt your feet does seem like a good idea.
