Stitchdown, real cap-toe, rolled edge, gusseted tongue, speed hooks, 2.2mm leather, fully lined interior. $250. That's hard to beat. This might be a major challenge for the Iron Ranger.
@CarlMurawski It really is. The only areas where I see they may have saved a few bucks are not having leather heel and toe counters, and the 1 piece outsole. But IIRC, the RW IR is similar but at $100 more.
I'm a huge Jim Green fan and supporter. I've got razorbacks, shoellies, numzaan and African rangers. Watching them push production quality over the last several years has been a treat. Well done on a beautiful collaboration.
As always great content Carl. JG is smart to collaborate with you. I have some fudge African Rangers that I have worn for three years over-landing the Continental divide from Mexico/New Mexico border to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean, NWT, Canada. Side trips for fly fishing.. I see this boot as being more durable and also refined for visitations to family gatherings and the public house. As for the speed hooks… trust me when I say, the older you get, the more you will like them. 71 years here.
@@Doc.HolidayJim Green’s TH-cam channel also dropped a video about these yesterday, and Garreth goes through the differences. In summary, they are very similar, but there are some differences to the pattern on the uppers (these have that very traditional service boot look in the stitching pattern) and the tongue in these is more of a bellows tongue, whereas the Numzaan is a thicker normal tongue (Garreth calls it a built-in kiltie). FWIW, I have a pair of the Numzaan in the bronco leather with the tyre wedge sole, and they are great boots - very beefy and seem like they will last me decades. I like these 719 boots a lot, but my boot collection is already too big and I have several similar boots already.
That was Carl at his usual best. Product launch & management. Thank you for introducing the JG 719. It look an awesome pair a clasical one with an African toughness. It is sleek & a handsome one.Thank you for a good video & a great pair of boots. 👍
The other day i ordered my dad a pair of Jim Green Buffalo Barefoot African Rangers for Christmas, they are coming in the mail tomorrow and I'm excited to see how he likes them, I hope Jim Green continues to do well and make quality products. I love what they are doing
Heya Carl, just saw the 719 drop. Lost my mind over the Bronco brown and could not order a pair fast enough. Love the JG logo on the back and thanks for keeping the speed hooks. Will be my third pair of Jim Green footwear and can't wait to get them. Thank you Carl and Gareth! Bravo guys!
I have a pair of wedge sole stockman's in bronco brown, it's a fantastic looking leather with a ton of pull up and it creases much less than the old fudge crazy horse which I also have a few boots in. My only word of warning would be that it's not quite as tough as the old crazy horse leather, so probably not the best for a heavy duty work boot, the grain is a bit looser and my stockman's are missing a chunk of the top grain on one of the toes where I accidentally kicked the corner of a wooden crate while climbing around on a flatbed trailer.
Jim Green are fantastic. I’ve got their stockmans and numzaans and I absolutely love them. Their customer service was unbelievable too which is why I’ll be a customer for life.
Beautiful collaboration. After owning my numzaan for a few months and finding out how tough that leather is I like that you removed the kilties. Can’t decide which color I want yet!
I got a notification of the drop when Gareth posted the video the other day and immediately placed an order. These look great and are the boot I was hoping they would make. I think this is #5 now. Awesome collab and a great looking result, but with the Jim Green quirkiness intact. Of course I ordered some green laces to go with them as well. 😆
Just got a second pair of Rangers in the horween and a pair of numzaam tire wedge in bronco leather. Was tempted to wait for these, but ended up going with the wedge style. great company, great products.
Love the boot, but will be waiting for custom orders to open up and order them on the STC last. If I had it my way every JG boot would be made on the STC last. Their wide toe box is what separates them from the rest of the boot makers. Even boot makers who base their boots on the Munson last aren’t truly wide enough (although better than some options).
I couldn’t agree with you more. Every boot JG offers should be available on the STC last. I keep coming back to JG because of the quality of materials and the wide fit with large toe box. I have several customs and they all are on the STC last.
The one area I see that might be a drawback in real-life situations is with the frog outsole. All those tiny pinholes will get filled with mud and will be impossible to get out......until you walk on carpet. 😂
Hell hath no fury like a gentleman with a wide foot scorned. It's amazing how vocal this population is. As suggested, just size up half size or buy the custom 719 on the STC or JG last.
I thought the same thing, but the leather cuts are definitely different, so there is a different silhouette. There is also a fully gussetted tongue in this one. They are fairly similar, and that makes sense since they are at the same price point. But there is definitely enough difference to make them different models.
I wish they have options for the frog logo... I just can't wear a "dressy" boots with a huge logo at the back. however good work Carl, surely many people will love them.
What is the difference between this boot and the Numzeen with the Frog grip sole? They look similar and would like a comparison of differences to make a decision on which one to get. I'm interested in the veg re tan leather version
Carl, I agree with you on speed hooks, though not for aesthetics, but for practicality on many shorter boots. Tall boots I can understand. To me, pretty useless on the African Ranger. Love Jim Green boots.
I see many differences. 719 deviates from their unique JG style cap toe, doesn't have a billowed tongue, narrower last, simple shalf with rolled top. It's a very different boot.
Thanks for doing affordable collab. Hope it’s not a limited release. Think these would be a good dome boot. No way I’d be able to not wear them until Octobe 2025.
ooooooo. Look at these bad boys. Love the logo on the back! Love the design. I want to import a shoe to my country but they ship only to the US, though their DE website ships to other countries. This is something I would love to grab one. Co-incidentally, I watched a video today where Iron Snail wishes for Jim Green to have speed hooks. Its an older video, and its very likely many customers asked for that customization.
I don't really like toe cap boots because they're kind of overplayed at this point, but I do like the way these look. I was fully on board with these until you mentioned the last, the JG last is the biggest thing I like about them and without that last I have no reason to buy them.
