- A late afternoon CPKC run to Janesville, WI to interchange with WSOR turned into a night operation as one problem after another plagued the venture.
They didn’t even arrive in Janesville till around 15:00 with over 20 cars to leave for WSOR. They were met with a like number of cars on the grade up into town, most of which were heavy loads of scrap.
After they weren’t able to shove them with GP20C-ECO 2292 as they normally would have, WSOR sent SD60M 6028 to pull the outbound cars out of the way.
Wile the WSOR crew tied on for the pull around 16:00, the CPKC crew went back to their inbound train which they left on the edge of town.
The WSOR gave a good attempt to pull and the SD60M sounded good in the process, but they couldn’t budge it either.
Now the CPKC job had to cut off their inbound train again to help shove their outbound with the WSOR leading out of the way.
Finally they got the outbound train up onto the fairly level section through Five Points and the sticking brakes on a few cars in the train explained some of the difficulties they were having. CPKC cut off here and again returned for their inbound train.
It was fairly trouble free getting the inbounds up to the WSOR main and shoving them up the Old Main into the East Yard.
The final scenes were around 17:00 at the Jackson St spring switch were WSOR gains trackage rights on UP and the SD60M had to pull the outbound interchange to for head room.
CPKC was able to get a pull on their outbound train down grade from here, still with brakes sticking on at least one car. Not sure how far they got, but WSOR followed them back onto home rails to go about their own chores.
A rather lengthy video due to the stalls, short crossing circuits and uncooperative equipment, but an unusual sequence of moves compared to a usual half hour turn around.
Hope you enjoyed this interchange, thanks for watching! Andy
