@@exothermal.sprocket yep. Unfortunately too many don’t understand that responsibility. To maintain our “well regulated” (mentally and physically prepared) ability to uphold that seems to slip farther away all the time.

@@InSightFreedom Calling for action is futile, if the people who are going to act are ignorant, unenlightened, and have no concept of the powers that manipulate every day life. It would be akin to donning soldier garb on every day street people and commanding them to fight a war.

I just picked up a very good condition 67A today, and then ran across this video. This was my first real cartridge rifle. I learned to shoot on a Daisy Cub BB gun back in the early '50's. This rifle went with me on my trap line runs, and rabbit hunts until I went into the military in 1968. It took a fair amount of game and pests. When I returned from Viet Nam in 1972, I found that someone(my little brother, more than likely) had destroyed the bolt, and had also lost the extractor/sear piece. When I saw this rifle on Gun Broker, I upped the bid and won it then picked it up today at my local FFL. I'm very happy, to say the least, that I have my old companion, and "first love" back with me again. Thanks for the great video.

This old rifle is a masterpiece in simplicity. I learned on a Winchester 67..my first and best shooting experience..belonged to my grandad (an old Arkansas man), and it helped to feed his family through very hard times and good alike. My...my.. but this old rifle can shoot! My cousin owns it now and it goes to his sons. I saw one at a gun show and bought it without hesitation. It feels like a handful of great memories. Great video...and yes..vote the gun haters out!

The gun is childproof in that a small child cannot pull the plunger back.
This was my first gun at age 10.
My fingers would hurt like heck after about 20 shots to where I'd just stop shooting. My dad shortened the stock to fit my 10y old frame. I loaned it to small nieces & nephews for them to learn on. Come to think of it, I want it back. It used to be very accurate, and quiet, especially with shorts. My next gun was a Nylon 10C, but I still packed the 67 around the woods because it was much more accurate on squirrels.

I had a similar rifle that came from a guy who was nearly broke. I gave him $15 for it, which was generous, considering its condition. I did some experimenting with it and came up with a crude method of making it very quiet using CB ammo and a 2litre soda pop bottle. The front sight was broken off and the elevator ramp was long gone, so it was a point and shoot proposition. Shooting it in quiet mode was a very short range vermination operation. Rats were fairly easy to anchor. Good old days.

Gotta tell a father-in-law story from 1935. It was the Great Depression, the Model 67 cost $7 mail-ordered from Sears which was no doubt the largest retailer of these rifles. No Internet then, no credit cards, few phones... everything was mail-ordered from the catalog and all correspondence was by letter. My father-in-law ordered a 67 from Sears. A couple weeks later he got a letter back from Sears saying that they were sold out of the 67, but would he be willing to accept the Sears' tubular repeater bolt-action for the same $7 ? Dad-in-law replied "well sure I would!" Sears sent him the repeating, under-the-barrel tube version of the rifle (it had a model number but I can't think of it). The rifle still exists and shoots perfectly. It passed from Dad-in-law to me, then to my Son. I used it for small game hunting extensively back in the early 1970's. NOTE: The rifle has finger grooves in the sides of the stock which was standard for the first year of these type rifles... 1934.

"Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! No shooting could be any more enjoyable than putting a nice (single shot) .22lr gun through its paces!!! That's why I love the old black powder muzzle loaders - each shot is like one tasty bite of a fine prime rib steak! You're my kind of man! No black AR15 type rifles for me unless I'm on the battlefield or protecting my family & home! The .22lr to me is the all time "king of cartridges", bar none! "Gesundheit"!

I've got one of these rifles, which is why I'm here. I was trying to narrow down when it was made and the best I can do is 1937-1944. The take down pin is flush but it doesn't have the bronze W in the trigger guard. Other than that I don't know any other identifiers.
So anybody who has any other info, even if its "that's the best your going to get", I'm not going to complain.
Fun fact: not sure if it's common but where the bolt meets the chamber there are matching stamps on the bolt and chamber, except the chamber is double stamped.

I've seen, handled and shot a good number of 67's... still own three (in my 70's}. But, I've never seen one that was properly headspaced or would reliably eject. The spent cases always had a bulged head, and after a bit of wear you'd be using your fingernail to pull the empties out of the chamber. The Remington single-shot was more expensive, but very positive on the action... even included a loading ramp for faster shooting.

There's a place you can balance your hand just right where it's close but not too far I don't know who did this but they made a thumb intention to catch right at the right place so you could have fast acquiring of your target. I understand the principle of this it kind of wasn't done lovingly I could smooth it out some but it's almost like it it is better the way it is for Speed

I’ve been lucky enough to acquire a model 67 with some interesting characteristics:
a.) Short barrel - it features a barrel length of 13”. Most ppl dismiss this as damage from an idiot with a hacksaw but I do not believe this is the case! Let me explain:
    - the “dovetail” style notch at the end of the barrel is an inch from the end of the barrel. Had it simply been sawed off there shouldn’t be a sight-notch at all, right?
-the patina on the barrel tip matches the patina on the rest of the barrel. If this barrel been removed via hacksaw (or lathe for that matter,) the metal on the tip would appear to be new, certainly without matching patina.
I’d love to have an expert examine it, but when I tried posting to an online forum they banned me saying I was posting pictures of an illegally modified rifle 😧

Never saw one with a 13" barrel - but it does sound interesting.

If they cut it when they first bought it the patina would be even on the cut and rest of barrel etc

I remember my Father shooting the Win 67 that his father had bought. He would shoot pennies off our picnic table while squatting with open sights. His POS Brother took the rifle and never gave it back.

Our Lithgow rifles are the same John Browning design as these. Even the bolts are interchangeable. I'm pretty sure the Lithgow slides are almost identical. They definitely work. I've picked up a few from various gun shows here in oz.

First firearm i ever owned (67a) given to me by my father in 1956. He paid $12.95 for it in Jackson, Mississippi. I wouldn't sell it today for any price.
I've bought a pre-war 67, and a post-war 67a since then at pawn shops in case I needed parts. But my original still works flawlessly in spite of the untold thousands of rounds fired down its barrel and empty brass ejected well out of its receiver.
There's much confusing and incorrect info online about 67s and 67a's, particularly regarding the minor differences btw the two models with regard to actions and stock stylings.
Regardless, these are fantastic firearms, and we'll worth the inflated progesterone command. Just make sure the piece operates fully and correctly before laying down your cash.

Jewelers rouge and a soft buffing wheel - followed by Flitz polish. I simply reblued the steel trigger guard.
