In case anyone hasn't listened to Cory's podcast with Henrik, Cory Wong's band and the Dirty Loops are not in the same room. This entire song was recorded and filmed remotely, with matching setups stitched together for the wide video shots. Crazy!

The answer is capitalism, plain and simple. The wealthy-elites in the record industry only allow the most profitable music to play on the radio, so we never get to hear anything but the simplest, most unsophisticated material. Record companies and radio stations work together to sell what's ADDICTIVE, not what's thought-provoking, unique, sophisticated or -- God forbid -- what uses real, live instruments.

i hear the band in 2018 and my brain explotedddd.... i did not get why loopified was the best pop record of the year... is insane. they are on the top 5 bands and musicians. (outside clasicall music)

I guess language is a reverse-barrier? The more audience can understand the lyrics, the less they pay attention to the music, except for trained musicians.
Having seeing them play live, I can safely say THESE GUYS ARE MONSTERS. Each of them has such a mastery over their instrument/vocals that they improvise and perform just as naturally as they BREATHE. They look like they are having so much fun while they play/sing the most INSANE thing you've heard with such ease.
How come after every single new Dirty Loops Video or Single I find myself repeating it countless times with occasional "what the fuck"s and maniac-like outbursts of laughter

Aron deserves an award for deciding to loop Grace's reaction face over Heinrik's solo. This song has been knocking around my head for almost a year now and that 2-second loop is all I can visualize when I hear it. (Thanks, Mikko, for reminding me that credits exist!)
There's full credits in the end so you don't need to be guessing who did the video editing work.

I'm gonna need about 4 more of these collab songs with Cory. This blew my mind when I saw the title. Tons of love and respect for DL and Cory and those horns. Love to see DL expanding their sounds as Henrik did with the pitch shifter. I also love that DL is getting more tasteful with how they insert the super complex elements into their songs.

Yeah the funk style that Cory brings is better suited for the music genre that DLs playing , been following Cory since I found Vulfpeck, he even did his solo tour , glad that they finally collaborated together, such a musicianship that they’re showing here , love it 🙂🙂

Absolutely fabulous. Sick 3 over 4 drum figure at the end of Hernik's solo at 3:11. And playing steady 16th notes on the hi-hat with one hand at that tempo is impressive. Aron is incredible.

It's been around 15 years of me learning about Hi-Fi and Loudness War and even after all this time I still can't wrap my head around shitty productions. Who fucking decided that we only need like 3dB of dynamic range in modern (pop) music? I'm getting mad everytime I hear a song I like and then start to wonder how great it would be if someone who actually cared about dynamic would have produced the song.
The second you hear a quality recording on a system with good impulse response (meaning loudspeakers with a high sensitivity and a well designed amplifier with lots and lots of power/headroom), you sit on your couch smiling from one ear to the other and start to wonder why we can't have nice things...
Radio stations should blast more of their stuff. They deserve attention and recognition.
How do we make this happen?
@@lorraineb682 There are a couple ways to make happen but the fans can't officially do anything... he first way, is to do a radio edit of max. 3:30... you cut a verse, the bridge is very catchy, it starts getting really attention grabbing at around the 3:00 mark. You remove the bass fill that people will not understand. You put a chorus out. Then they call Quincy and he goes to pitch that to radio station... but they aren't weighing in on the charts or on the internet compared to charting pop artists, so good luck. They won't make it on iHeart or any other big player.
The second way is to aim for specialized music shows, podcast, and so on.
The third way is to get this sync to image on a movie or a series.
The fourth way is to mass call a radio station with 1000 people or so and ask for it at the same time and see. That could work... IF it's not 5 min. The radio will NOT play it. It used to be possible back in the days but not anymore.
@@jas_bataille Yeah... radio is very corporate these days. This song though is 4 min. Next To You has a 4 min radio edit. It's very poppy sounding. I think it's possible. I did request from my local station a year ago, but it's iHeart branded so I doubt that they take any suggestions whatsoever.
I mean, I'm sure some jazz has crossed over into popular mainstream here and there over the years right?
I asked my wife to listen this. She's just a regular music listener who doesn't even know what a bass guitar is. She said "it's too busy with a bunch of different sounds". This is how a regular person would hear music like this and is the reason why it's appeal is limited to relatively few people...and why it would most likely never make it to radio.
@@internettoughguy Pick up the Pieces and Take 5 crossed over onto the radio in their day, no reason why other jazz songs couldn't. Not all of them, sure but probably a couple of DL's could

For me, this song is perfection. Not sure I’ve ever really felt that about a song before. Every human that has contributed to this video hopefully feels that. Every piece of the puzzle is placed so well, all the dials turned just enough. the passion, patience and restraint in the playing and production just NAILS this amazing track!

@@smokingbanjo4865 you're misinformed. its a live set. that means no work on the console after recording. that's what production value is. editing and using effects and other techniques. define "heavily mixed"? all live sound gets mixed and has effects applied to it. all of these players are using effects in their signal path for their live performances to reproduce production value included in recording sessions. playing live is playing live "heavily mixed" means nothing to a live performer. you get great sound you perform your parts the mixing and the effect really don't matter its all you. the fact that it sounds like it has a ton of production value is the magic of it. these guys are making it sound like a layered studio track live. pretty amazing if you ask me. "heavily mixed" is meaningless and has nothing to do with how good this sounds. having a good sound guy is a necessity.

@@AMTunLimited Cory reached out first! He just sent an email to his mailing list with a bit of backstory to the album, which I'll paste here for everyone who might not have gotten it:
"My first interaction with Dirty Loops was with the viral videos of them doing insane arrangements of pop songs.
Their musicianship is absolutely top tier. The only thing I thought was, "Where's the guitar?!"
As I sat playing guitar along to the videos from my studio, I thought that I should reach out and see if they wanted to collaborate on something.
Usually a collaboration is just one song or a writing session, but I've been exploring the idea of doing collaborative albums with other artists because it allows the two visions of the artists to intermingle more and find more unique ways to blend together to create something new.
This project really brought a lot of the musical chops side of my playing out that I often restrain from putting on my albums, and I added some restraint to parts of songs that they might get really intricate. It ended up being a perfect representation of both Cory Wong and Dirty Loops as artists and what a true collaborative project can be."
@@imtheandylee i believe they didn't contact him directly because it was a three man. apart from that he only knows chords if i were to insult. and the dirty loops did a BIG BAND. so it was the only to include a courteous invitation. cory i believe could not handle an original composition other than rythm chords

@@imtheandylee From what I've read, in all likelihood (assumption here), he reached out to Aaron as Henrik has mentioned in a few interviews, that Loops is "Aaron's deal", then Jonah gets a say and then they both just kinda tell Henrik what they want form him and he shows up and does it.

I first saw Dirty Loops live in October of 2014. They revived my faith in young musicians and gave me a thrill like when I was a teenager! I met them and they were so kind and humble! Love how they interact. It's palpable! ❤❤🎉
Slammin'! Funky, soulful, transcendent. This could be a hit record and an indie insiders thing. These are musicians' musicians with a mainstream sensibility. Cory Wong is ubiquitous, but I never get tired of him and the projects with which he involves himself.
I prefer songs like "Work Shit Out" where they play as a trio, so everybody gets more room. With their style the songs can sound crowded fast.
This song has some serious Michael Jackson vibes, especially around the 2:50 minute mark, and I'm down for it.

Musically, this song is on of the very best. Technically, the musicianship from the groove section all the way to the horns, this song is not only entertaining, but it also is a lesson on how astute you need to be to perform at this high level. Love it!!

Good Lord, every time I listen I pick up new nuances. This is some next level musicianship. Real music and real musicians still exist today, it just takes a little more effort to find them. Bravo.
I think Cory is the perfect match on guitar - musically and personal. I love the arrangement, the horns are fantastic - can't get enough from Dirty Loops.

So amazing the drum splashes, ghost notes, the slap fills and the bass solo jesus!!!!!, the harmonics on the chorus so tasty, horn sections is so on point and the vocals and the key change to the high like wtf Amazing musicianship!!!!
The vibe between Henrik and Aron is how it should be in all Bands, playing to each other.
Betting this was not only recorded but shot on 2 continents due to Covid. No image overlaps between DL and CW with horn section. Makes it even more amazing to me.

Never heard of these folks till I had that Thriller song come across my desk. And now I get to watch and listen to everything ever done by Dirty Loops. What a great day.
What's truly beautiful about this simple music video is how deeply everyone is enjoying this performance. Smiling, dancing, communicating to one another. The power of authentic music.
And all the more insane when you realise that Cory and Dirty Loops weren't even playing together. There's only one "camera angle" that shows them playing together-and that's a composite of two different rooms.
In a bleak world, I thank the universe for these guys. Music has the power to heal and they fill me with genuine joy.
