- I got to take a look at the brand new cthulhu mythos supplement for Pathfinder 2e from Sandy Petersen games! It's not fully released yet, but they've got some cool ideas, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle of of 2e's different systems while keeping the eldritch feel of Lovecraftian horror.

Would love to have a full review of the PF2e release! I love PF2e, and I love the Cthulhu Mythos, so this sounds awesome!
Example of dread. You see Cthulhu.
I love the death mechanics. It's so thematic with CoC rules.
I have the PF1 book and it is super interesting. There are a lot of cool ideas and it mixes very well with the Strange Aeons adventure path.
Thanks for covering this, I didn't know this adventure existed or the new version of the book and now I am super interested in seeing the 2e version.
I have the 5e version and it awesome! Looking forward to this...
11:22 - AND sadistic! I would classify that as a Chaotic action!
Id be interested in reading this due to running a lovecraft heavy themed campeign. Always looking for more ideas, monsters, and environmental information. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Might I recommend taking a look at Strange Aeons, a Pathfinder 1e AP which is pure Lovecraft and which is entirely consistent with the lore from Pathfinder 2e. It takes place in Ustalav and begins with an utterly nightmarish asylum. It just gets worse.
@@carloscaro9121 oh hey thanks. I dont use pathfinder lore entirely. Built/building my own world for my players. I have however adopted many of the gods, with the great old ones being a "new" threat after not being seen for thousands of years.
Pretty much they are working to prevent their return to the world at large. And if not able find elder signs to banish them. My players have been dealing with a cult of the king in yellow as he has been the main threat before i use pathfinder nhimbaloth as i like using undead

I’m so glad you approve of “versatile heritage at any level” I’m hesitant about starting a few professional GMing campaigns in Tian Xia with a homebrew versatile heritage, that can be granted by a ritual at any level, that’s central to the campaign.
The phobia makes me think of Darkest Dungeon. I love it.
Big fan of this book for 5e.
Used it to run a ww1 war-in-the-trenches style one shot with ghouls.
I think the 5e book was honestly better than what was written in the core rulebooks. Cannot wait to get my hands on this as a long-term HP Lovecraft fan; really hope my favourite monsters make it in!
I have the 5e version and a couple adventures too but I will definitely get the pathfinder 2e version as well.
I've been looking forward to "Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder 2e" since Pathfinder 2e first hit the market. Last I saw, it's supposed to be released this fall but I'm not sure when they'll make preorders available.
I'm also looking forward to their eventual Planet Apocalypse supplement for 2e. Essentially, I plan to pick up everything that Petersen Games puts out for Pathfinder 2e. :)
It's cool to see 3rd party publishers support Pathfinder 2e.
the pf1e supplement was pretty great; I'm a fan of how Petersen handles game design. Of course Petersen is the author of Call of Cthulhu which is a VERY different rpg in both a mechanics and atmosphere sense, and those sensibilities very much creep into his PF/D&D supplements
Well, the Cthulhu mythos was quite well established in PF1 and I currently finish running the Strange Aeons AP (purely Cthulhu mythos published by Paizo) converted to PF2.
I definitely see your point with the power level, but I think that will not be a problem with the supplement per se, but it may be for an adventure that is converted from 5e.
You just need to adjust the scale of the terror for your adventures.
I would love to see the deep dive into this manual and to get a heads-up on when you can pre-order. I just ordered the original for PF 1E because I never knew about it.
Well I'm sold
Their supplement for Pathfinder 1e was, sadly, a let down for me. I backed the Kickstarter & I did enjoy the final product, but... they set out to develop a book so big that by the time it actually released, 2e was already in-bound. I only ended up using the 1e book for about 4 months.
Here's hoping that, since it's a conversion (instead of a full book development) this time around, that the product is out long enough for me to actually get some use out of it!
In other words, the 1e product was really good, but REALLY BADLY TIMED!
Well luckily if PF1 is anything to go off we've got like 8 years of 2e being the primary edition at the bare minimum.
@@nomadnuka716 I hope so! Call of Cthulu is another one of my favorite RPGs, so I would love to have some quality H.P. Lovecraft inspired content for 2e - with a reasonable time frame to actually use it!
I am converting the Strange Aeons AP to 2e; this is going to be a life saver.
Just to throw this out there, I backed the 5E Mythos Kickstarter and got a defective hard copy (several pages were just missing).
While I did eventually get a replacement, it took about a month of constant emails through both official and non-official channels just to get a simple “we are aware of your issue and will help you fix it”. And that was following a few weeks of less aggressive “hey I got a bad copy” comments and emails. I had to contact the CEO’s son on some random tabletop gaming site, twice, before I got anywhere, cause their customer support is a black hole. A few times when I asked for updates they went “Huh? You’re not in the system”
It may have gotten better in the year and a half since then, but I’d be slacking if I didn’t put it out there that if you have an issue with your hard copy, you might have to really work to get it resolved. Just keep that in mind.
I own the 5e book it is realy good even have a subscription to the 5e chuthulu adventure paths
I just started watching this and… 5:07… is there content from Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle stories? The Cats of Ulthar and his best work, Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, are set in the dream world and considered more fantasy than horror, though there is some crossover with Cthulhu Mythos, Nyarlathotep in particular. Anyway, be nice to cats. Or they will eat you.
Edit: reaction vid please!
I have the PF 1e, PF 2e, and 5e versions of this book.
I am GMing a PF1e campaign that is heavily influenced by the Mythos. And I love this book.
I've played a bit Pathfinder, and I can certainly say I've been in a lot of situations already that were Dreadfully Hopeless.
It just makes it that much scarier when you know how powerful you are and yet your abilities are useless in the face of such Unknown Evil.
Investigate PULP CTHULHU. It is an expansion book for Call of Cthulhu that makes overpowered characters. The propose is if you want to run a campaign style Call of Cthulhu game instead of a bunch of one shots with the party dying all the time. I imagine Pathfinder 2e characters will be very much like Pulp characters.
Hey Nonat pretty sure that even if you just receive the product for free you still have to *very* clearly disclose that you did like in the description and stuff. Might wanna do an edit for that, dont want anything negative coming your way
I thought the first lines about writing a script for this video was going to reference some kind of decent into madness.
I would like you to do a react when the full release is out.
I would also like to see you play with some others if possible
I'm really hopefull for the terror aspect, because even if pathfinder characters are strong, monsters are really strong too. Facing only +3 or +4 monster would be really dreadfull.
Do they have a Pathfinder (either edition) adventure?
When is this coming out?
Cats are hi INT hi DEX and dogs have WSD and more even physical attributes. Gm opinion.
The link for the adventure is broken. It leads to the main page instead.
Also looking forward to this in general. Got the 1e book as a christmas present, and had been planning on running the Strange Aeons AP with it. Might just wait to see what the full PF2e version looks like and possibly convert Strange Aeons over.
Yaaaaaaas
Anyone know of a Sci-fi or Cyberpunk theme supplement for PF2e?
Starfinder?
I see someone else mentioned Starfinder. I would like to second that.
Is this available yet?
To your last point, they might just make the monsters "low power" and tell you to use the "Leveless proficiency" rule during the adventure to keep that power gap sensation of big stompy monster and normie humans. Also I kinda want to use the Insanity system outside of the adventure path they make, a home brew world I play in has some nods to Cthulu mythos, and having Dread be a mechanic in that game would be fascinating.
Are you sure 'just getting the box for free' doesn't fall under paid promotion? Might get you in trouble.
ohhhh
would love to see u do more on this
Low level dnd 5e pc's are way stronger than commoners, obviously there isn't as big a gap as between pathfinder 2e pc's and commoners but it is significantly larger than you said. A level 1 fighter with chainmail, shield and a decent 1 handed weapon can only be hit by Commoners 25% of the time and take like 5 hits before going unconscious while hitting commoners 75% of the time and one shotting them 75% of those hits (if their damage die is a d8).
So, you are preferring pf2 mechanics over CoC's?
As cool as the setting is, I don't feel the system, or mutations, are going to work.
You received the product for free? That's monetary incentive. Your opinion is thus biased and not credible.
Damn. You got me. The whole video was actually written by the Petersen company and I was reading a teleprompter.
@@Nonat1s No nuance, no balance, no real criticism - yes, might as well have been written by Petersen Games.
