I built one of these as one of my first youtube videos for my channel. Not having your skills, I found this a difficult kit and most likely still would. Nicely done, Sir, and as always, a very entertaining watch 😁
Erm. I have just finished this kit. Got it as a stocking filler for Christmas. I don’t know if it’s because my last few builds have been big Italeri and Revell kits but I found this little basic kit a delight. The only issue I had was a small gap around the air intakes where they meet the wing but a small amount of filler and some sanding and it was fine. Really didn’t think it was a big problem. In fact I really enjoyed this simple quick build and I was quite impressed with the end result. It’s £7 from Aldi!
You ultimately wrestled this one into a nice result. I'm morbidly curious to try building my copy now, to see if I have the same problems or if yours was just a dud. PS, in the old days we ALWAYS trimmed right to the edge of the design with all decals. I don't know when this went out of fashion, but it shouldn't have.
Always loved the Vampire and the two seater always reminds me of a David Lean film "The Sound Barrier". Slightly odd and silly film that tries to rewrite history more like an American movie. But it's entertaining, well made, and is full of classic jets (Vampire, Attacker and prototype Swift amongst them). Thanks for showing us the build. Happy landings.
@@SteamGeezerUK Kind of. The hero puts a Spit into a power dive and starts getting flutter (as you would). He feel the controls are "reversed", and believes that he had hit a high Mach number... Some of the Historical events are more than a little mangled, and the films solution to high Mach is,,, er ,,, odd. But still worth a watch. Ralph Richardson is always good value in a film for a start.
As someone of a certain age (70) I admire your dedication to a 1/72 kit. Now sadly my eyes and trembling hands can just bung 'em together and poke and hope I get something decent at the end of it. I can manage 1/48 with magnifying glasses but 1/32 scale is where I'm at really or 1/35.
I always loved this channel, felt like I was watching my dad or grandpa talking to me while building these kits. Also do you have a link to the music you have in your videos?
Thanks, I appreciate it. The music is from some dear friends of mine. The theme music was written specifically for me by some lovely ladies of my acquaintance, and the in episode music is made by a very talented young producer I've known for years. His music can be found here - soundcloud.com/mcmrecordsproducer
I just finished this model, my first since i was a child! I did a truly terrible job but i had a great time. Do you have any thoughts on a good next model for me to try? I believe the bf-109E is fairly beginner friendly? Cheers!
Have just gotten to the rant section, YES! The fit was absolutely atrocious. So it turns out it wasn't (entirely) my fecklessness... Also I did receive this as a gift from someone well intentioned but clueless 😃
The Airfix Spitfire and Hurricane Starter Kits actually go together quite well. I've not tried the BF-109 for a while, but I think that one's OK too. Good luck 🙂
I am honestly surprised Humbrol are still going. The kits didn't fit well in the 80's so they are never going to change. Also QC on their paints is non-existent which really is a shame as when they are good they are among the best, at least for enamels IMO. Unfortunately it's pot luck as to the quality you actually get.
I've only used a couple of Humbrol acrylics, I don't have any of their enamels, and they've been OK for me. They seem particularly suited for brush painting.
I think you did a grand job of polishing a turd of a model kit. You mentioned other model kit companies, and they all have their good and bad kits...as we all know.
Blinking hell. Just brought the Heller version from Kt Crazy, sadly no decals . Don’t matter to me as I never make a model to spec, my upset the purists but that’s the joy of model making😬🥲🤣

Enjoyed the rant. More please.
Now you see why I don't do sponsored content, despite being offered it regularly 🙂

Great to settle in and watch another long build video. Thank you sir.

I often trim decals, whether they need it or not, but sometimes I have neither the time of the patience 🙂
This aircraft features in the Christmas story, "The Shepherd." Multiple versions, both readings and film adaptations, are available on TH-cam.
I've never heard of that. I'll have to look it up, thanks 🙂

I'm aware of that film, but I'm not sure if I've ever watched it. Didn't it have something about Spitfires breaking the sound barrier in a dive?

Having just finished the video, I just wanted to thank you for your sacrifice.
Thanks, my friend. I'm going for a cup of tea and a lie down 🙂
Have a go at the Airfix 1/76 scale DUKW,now that is hilarious 😉👍
If I ever get my hands on one, I certainly will 🙂
What a challenge but you seem to have made a silk purse out of a sows ear as the saying goes so well done.
Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂
👍👍👌👌

I'd like to do more larger scale models but I simply have nowhere to put them. I struggle to find places for the 1.72 stuff 🙂
Did they have pressurised cockpits? Maybe that's why the windows open inwards?
That's a good point, I never thought of that. I have no idea... 🙂

I'd like to see you clean up the joins (35.30), because your builds are always good, and I have yet to master clean seams.
Next time I get a kit like this, I'll try to add something about cleaning and joining. Thanks for the feedback 🙂

i hope the airfix 1/48 scale version of the vampire isnt as bad as this, what a challenge
I'd like to have a go at that one some day, if I can find one at a reasonable price.

Why not send an Email to Humbrol telling your thoughts on this kit. I'm sure they would take note.
Oh I'm sure they would... 😂
I still don't think it would do any harm. They might even withdraw it from sale.

That's very true, but some of them are truly awful and really not fit for purpose, especially ones aimed at beginners.

It's your model - build it how you want. I always do. I sometimes lean towards historical accuracy, but we're really only passing acquaintances 🙂
