    We're glad you found the video helpful. This knife is definitely NOT weak. It's still one of my favorite knives. -Krik

    Cody Lundin says of the Mora, "its not the size, it's how you use it." While the inuendo is funny, he's also RIGHT.

    You'll love the classic 2/0. I just received mine yesterday. It really lends its self to neck carry.Its a 3inch blade, that is just so nice for controlled carving. It weighs nothing, like having a pen hanging from your neck it's awsome.

    I just had the 612 arrive. Its very similar to the classic 1 but with a guard. I'm planning on using it mostly as a woodworking knife, trimming cheeks on axe handles and such. Its been almost a year since this video! How much you guys have grown from this already impressive starting point.

    Good to see a review where some one uses the knife. most reviews ive seen for the mora # 1 they just hold it and talk about it. I was starting to worry that I may have ordered a weak knife.

      He cut one stick with it. You need to use a knight for days, weeks, or even months to really develop an actual opinion on a vital piece of gear. I know this is 10 years old but I’m replying to this comment so that other people who come to this video will see

    i really like this knife, but there is one thing that scares me a little bit.a junction between blade and handle. the blade material gets really thin inside handle and it my broke after some hard work or wrong angle cutting.

    What is the limit of batoning wood with this knife?

    • @stevehuffman7453
      @stevehuffman7453 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why baton? If you need to chop get the right tool: an axe, hatchet, or even a daRn tomahawk!
      Batoning with ANY knife is abuse.
      If you break any knife days or weeks out in the boonies, what you going to do? Not like you can pop over to the store and buy another.
      Finesse beats brute force 100% of the time.

    i want to get a mora but what most people are saying is cause of the "price" its the best way to go what if i was to spend around 150 to 200$ what would be a better choice?

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm actually testing out a knife in that price range - it's the Genesis model from LT Wright Knives. So far, it's been awesome. I will be doing an in depth video on the knife in the next month or so. Let me back up, do you want a bushcraft knife? And it wouldn't be a waste of money to buy a Mora, they are excellent for carving. I would still carry a Mora along with a larger type bushcrafting knife. -Krik

    • @astrazenica7783
      @astrazenica7783 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      get a Mora basic 511 -- even cheaper than the classic and more flexible. stouter multi purpose blade, not as limited to whittling. Its also carbon steel, better, safer handle for camp tasks, still got that Mora Scandi grind so suited to wood craft. Will give you good idea of Mora and more expensive Scandi bushcraft knives and remain a beater if u do get something more expensive. 511 basic should be around $10

    @CedricAda 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding this knife, I had the handle and blade totally separate on me during a pretty mundane bit of use! It was the 612 model and I was wondering how securely your classic is fixed together? Here's my TH-cam video of it th-cam.com/video/kyceXIifJRw/w-d-xo.html

      Because if you can baton, it reduces the necessity to carry more stuff. A knife that can do more, you need less.
      If you can baton, you won't necessarily need an axe. Not a guarantee, but something to consider

    This knife loks like mora classic 2. My Mora classic 1 have a more slender shape of the blade,

  • @BlackOwlOutdoors
    @BlackOwlOutdoors  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, it depends on a few things. The hardness of the wood will be a factor. If it's really dense wood, you'd have to pound on the knife a lot harder, which could damage the integrity of the knife. And since the blade is smaller, you'll only be able to baton wood with smaller diameters. Hope this helps. Let me know. -Krik

  • @Bowhunter1300

    That is NOT a single bevel edge. A single bevel edge is only ground on one side of the blade.
    And the Scandi grid has two grind angles, says so right on their website.

    Mora makes an amazing knife at 3 times the price. They are often a measuring stick for much higher end knives. Don't get me wrong, there are much better knives, but for the price they can't be beaten.

    Say Heah Turtle, I got my Mora's a day ago, Actually their nice carvers, The Mora 510 is very similar in size to the Classic #1 that almost wished I got the Mora Classic 2.0. But at that price, No problem, I'll just get the larger one anyhow. But the pleasant surprise was when I opened up the box for the Mora Forest Exclusive # 277 what a Beauty, It's a little more slender than the Classic #1, But it's Handmade and yeah, you can tell..It has a laminated blade, but the bolster and pommel are brass and the stick tang goes all the way through, and the sheath is a traditional leather sheath of good quality, a Simply TiT's, Beautiful Knife. I'm also going to enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato with the guys and prepared my Mora 2000, Hatchet and the Bacho Laplander all match even in color. A nice looking Trio that I carry in a Camo Haversack with my 5 C's. But some habits are hard to break, I like splitting kindling with a robust knife, so I'll be packing my Black Bokor Vox Rold on my side. Oh. I know I have enough cutting power without the Rold, But heah, I got it so why not use it. I can also just take my Victorninox Delemont Collection Ranger Grip 78 in its matching pouch, But I think the Rold will do. Maybe next time I'll take the Classic out to see of I could use it as Cody Lundin uses his heh heh heh, I'll try anyhow.

    Say Heah Krik, A while ago I got the Bokor Black Rold, I had a severe injury with the dangerously loose sheath. Since then I ended up putting a belt loop from another sheath that I had a extra on it. It's much safer this way, But the handle strap was a little loose. So I put my Mora Classic #1 on the handle strap, Not only did it pick up the slack, But now I also have the Classic #1 on my Bokor Rold It came out great. Even the colors match, The red liners match with the red handle and I also attached a Wenger pouch to the bottom of the sheath and the red cross matches too, It looks great. The Classic #1 hardly added any weight at all, Actually I'm pretty proud how it turned out. I took it out again to make sure everything worked which it does and easy to carry, I took my Bacho Laplander in the Haversack and used a Axe Holster Eugene made at Reviewsog.com He does great work. Job well done and it was nice to see you again.
