    In Sweden, most workpants have a dedicated button located on the thigh just for placing a knife. Mora has made knives for workers and handymen for a very long time. Most companies that makes inexpensive knives designed for work, has a similar design for wearing the knife on a button :)

      Indeed.
      And the knife button(s) on the workman's trousers are rivited, and not sown.

    Im a chef and that knife resides on my jacket button all day long without issue. Its a wonderful knife and gets well used. I also use it in the yard and woods at home, also on my shirt button. Thanks!!

    It may have been mentioned already, but hooking the sheath on your shirt button while wearing it as a neck knife stops it from dangling down in your way when you bend over. Red ochre is iron rust!

    Hey in the Albacete province in Spain they made all kind of knifes and swords from more than 600 years, is a long long tradition and the quality is superb in any price. I recommend them

    Very good review. You obviously do your research when explaining the knife making process and the knife's features. You don't get overly technical at the same time and I think that is important good for a short review. We;; thought out presentation, well done.

  • @Steppeponytail

    Another quick note. Rugged 'Makinaw' outdoor pants used by bush dudes for many, many years had big, chunky buttons on the waist for attaching suspenders to them. Guess what clipped to those buttons equally well? My father used to have a Mora attached to his pants whenever he went hunting. This is a fantastic no 'BS' knife used by people who wanted excellent quality, low cost and high useability.

    Mora is the name of the city where the company started. Kniv is "swedetalk" for knife. Morakniven translates to The Knife from Mora.

    Yes, that is for a button that is on Overalls or jeans. I recently got the Mora Heavy Duty Companion, and it has the same keyhole design on the belt clip. So using some leahter I made a belt loop and attached a jean's style stud button to the belt loop, and it works great. I have the Classic No. 2 and it is my go too kitchen knife. Just have to keep it clean. But thats just my two cents worth.

    i have one but its old. sheath looks leather, sounds like wood when tapped,and has a leather strap in place of the plastic button-catcher on yours. but i did not know thats what it was for. the leather strap on mine has a button-hole shaped slit in it. makes perfect sense. thumbs up

    The blade is laminated steel. The layer in the middle is hard but brittle so the outer layers make it less brittle. Will take a super razor blade edge. I took a file to the back of mine to square it up so it would work with a fire starter rod. Needs to be oiled to reduce rusting but this is a great knife for the price and weighs next to nothing. If you want something to beat on there are other knives designed for that but mostly I prefer a small ax.

    Say Heah, A while ago I bought a Bokor Black Rold, A Flat Grind that works wood pretty good and it's sort of robust, Anyhow the Sheath was dangerously loose, Yeah, I injured myself badly when it flew out and bit me on my foot that really make me leak. Since then I took a Belt Loop off another sheath and atleast it's much safer, But because if the handle design the Handle Strap was too loose, So I put a Classic #1 and every thing was fixed, my Mora picked up the slack and now I have a two knife package. I also attached my Wenger Pouch to it to complete a fully comprehensive package. Even the colors match.

    I've seen a lot of people ridicule the Mora Classic online. I love mine and will probably buy other models. I recently started trying my hand at wood carving and the Scandi grind is fantastic for that purpose. I have a 164 spoon knife on order. As you stated, it comes razor sharp, is cheap and I believe durable if used as a knife and not a hatchet or froe.

I also got the Bacho Laplander in the matching color although the Bacho comes in orange too., But my Fav's is the Exclusive Forex Mora # 277, It's a handmade knife with a laminated blade with brass bolster and pommel a real nice knife, It does look like the Classic # 1 but pimped out.

    do you know how sharpen scandi-grind in survival mode ? I mean with out flat japanese stone.

    • @Gearaholic
      @Gearaholic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lowcostlooser99 Yes, you want to find a flat or rounded river rock that looks to have pretty decent flat area. Place the angle of your grind on the flat surface and using water, move your blade across the rock. If you wear a leather belt you can always strop the edge to make it sharper. Don't use any kind of sandstone on your knife otherwise it'll pretty much eat up your blade. And if were talking hypothetical situation of survival mode: I would probably use my knife a whole lot less to preserve the edge... only when I needed to.

    • @Gearaholic
      @Gearaholic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gearaholic But for me ..that's why always carry a sharpener and wear a leather belt so I don't have to use a rock!

    • @Lowcostlooser99
      @Lowcostlooser99 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep , i've found many flat stone in a river. Ive did'nt try it yet , because it's no verry verry flat , there is little default on it. I'll scrub two stones, one between each other.
      I'm thinking , in survival mode , does a full-flat-grind is more easy to sharpen than scandi.
      PS : i'll receive my N°1 soon.

    Say Heah, Yeah, My Mora is a old one and still going strong and in great shape, It's a Frost Mora. But then I kept hearing that some guys like their stainless steel knives. So I checked out what it was and found out it was the 12c27 Stainless Steel, I then found out that they made Ice Skating Blades out of it..Then when I got my Stromeng Set, The two smaller blades were in the 12c27 Stainless Steel and both are about as thick as the Mora #1, Even though the KS 5 is a 5" blade, The way I can hold it almost up to the blade, It allows my to have alot of control on the knife, so I'm using my Stromeng KS 5 as my back-up knife, It's lite and it's a good slicer. My Bhuku is prolly the lightest knife I own, and I use it alot as my neck knife. Yeah, those Wooden Handle Mora's are great knives, But right now my Stromeng KS 5 has to do, I'm not trying to be rude, But if it wasn't for my research I wouldn't know how good their stainless steel blades were.

    • @EattinThurs61
      @EattinThurs61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good for axe handle, does not transport as much impact shock as harder woods, less tiring. Proffesionals that used axes every day used birch, all my axe handles though hickory.

    • @EattinThurs61
      @EattinThurs61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trick is to make a cut longer than an axe handle vertically in a birch tree, to heal the tree make a swelling on each side of cut, of these two your son makes two axe handles after some years. The grain will be ideal. Otherwise the beginning of a branch. That is also good for knife handles. Ash is good for knife handles. For interior and benches in a sauna you use aspen since it is the wood that is the least heat transferring one and does not give you spliters a la derriere., that is one reason why it is used for matches.

Hang knife sheath from/on button. Work trousers/overalls in sweden have buttons to fasten knife sheaths . Put button wherever you want knife, like on a rucksack, jacket, tool bag or trousers. At least I bought my rivet jeans buttons in a shop that sells textiles by the yard or rather by the metre in a mall, or maybe hobby shop? Google "jeans button"?

  • @bugnfront

    I would never attach a knife on a a button due to breakage...in a emergency situation losing your knife could be a life n death ...how ever, attaching fishing line or better yet wire inside a pack the knife could be secured. The plastic sheath unfortunately can be brittle in extreme cold and shatter....my experience has been...go with leather...tie with 550 para-cord or a good wire....remember the "3 rule"...three knives, three fire starters and three forms of shelter....

      "Batoning" is originally used to get to the dry wood underneath the wet outer layer of saturated wood or can be used to process firewood into small kindling pieces. It is way more effective to use an axe for this rather than a small camp blade. these guys out there with there crazy theories that "ONE knife should do it all" live in a fallacy.

    • @almusquotch9872
      @almusquotch9872 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gearaholic But you don't always have an axe to hand and they can be pretty heavy to carry around, so I'd argue batoning is a useful capability for a knife to have. Apparently it was done historically as well.
