I hope there's a "History of Batman 1996" in the near future. I've watched every Batman history video (including golden, silver, and bronze comic history) on this channel, and I am grateful for your dedication to these videos. They were incredibly informative, and no one has been as thorough as you have. Thank you so much!!

Hey there, great video. Thanks for mentioning my brief tenure on art duties in Detective Comics. Working on the 'Bat-books' was a dream come true for me (as a lifelong Bat-fan), & I'm glad that someone appreciated the work I did. Cheers.

I can certainly say that a lof of people appreciate your work. As a teenager, I wanted so much to draw like you and your other peers at the time. And without any sort of art training or anything, I remember trying to replicate your art in Detective. I still keep the art of my attempts at recreating your Poison Ivy and Firefly from those issues! Although I never became an artist; I'm really glad I finally get the chance to honour your work with these little documentaries. Thanks you, Staz!

I'm amazed how you have handled this crossover era in superhero comics since so many storylines and events are happening at the same time that it must be really time-consuming for you to follow each and every single one of them. Congrats Mr. Salazar. Excellent work as always. I really look forward to seeing your take on Contagion and Legacy.

The 90s was when I really got into comics, Batman being the main character I was all about. RIP Andrew Vachss. I know his story was a tough read, it was supposed to be. While it's not a book that brings much enjoyment, I appreciate what Andrew did as a human. Besides being an author he was also a good lawyer. He used all the money he made from his books and put it into his law firm where he specialized in doing pro bono work for cases involving child molestation. He saw a huge gap in the justice system because there's not much money for lawyers to go for in those types of cases. He did the Batman book to try and bring more awareness to this real world issue. Although I wouldn't expect anyone to say they love that book. It's a tough read. But much respect to Andrew for his work in fighting for true justice.

Fantastic video and channel, as a caped crusader collector it is very easy to get lost in all the titles. If you do a video on the current Batman it will be 3 hours long since DC uses Batman on everything. Hopefully you do a 1996 video

Personally, I liked the old format more, where everything was sorted by category instead of chronologically. It is more convenient if we want to refer to any information in the future that way. Unless the sequence of events is really important, I feel this chronological format feels less relevant after almost 30 years.
In any case, I love these videos! I learn about some new stuff to read and get a different perspective on stories I've already read.

Ever since I was 10 I wanted to see Batman and Spider-Man in a movie together though my idea of it was different from the comic book. In fact I came up with the idea of of way before I learned of the comic books existence. The Joker would work with The Green Goblin and the Kingpin instead of Carnage and Harley Quinn would tag along there would be the same soundtracks from Batman 89 and 2002s Spider-Man.

During this period I wasn't getting comics as often. As you noted, they became more expensive due to the higher quality paper they were using, and my parents couldn't afford to buy as many for me as I had hoped. Even my unbroken run of getting DC's Star Trek comics began dwindling down. So alot of these issues I didn't know about, but I did get a few issues of Shadow of the Bat from this period, issues 36, 38, and 40, as well as the comic book adaptation of Batman Forever, issues 4 and 5 of The Batman & Robin Adventures from 1996, and a few Superman issues as well. So I missed a ton of Batman material from this era. I did get to watch The Adventures of Batman & Robin though, and I saw Batman Forever when it came out on VHS.

I actually regretted not buying Batman comics at this time & I missed out on alot. I was a die hard Marvel Spider-Man fan but it was getting exhausting buying so many Spidey titles & so many one shots & miniseries for me. I'm now buying back issues & catching up on Batman. I was familiar with Jones' art work on his Venom: The Madness miniseries. I *_loved_* Batman costume during this point in time. So badass.

What a day, a Chuck Dixon video in the morning and your video in the afternoon. Very nice. Once again a great video, and absolutely agree with Devil's Advocate being a criminally underrated story. Chuck Dixon says on his show the reason it flew under the radar is because DC didn't advertise it

Hearing about The Joker: Devil's Advocate drove me to look up the comic, and oh my god, how is this not considered one of the best Batman one-shots of all time? It's every bit as good as, say, The Killing Joke, and a hell of a lot more fun. The character voices come across really strongly, and each character is well executed. I've never liked the Batman Begins take on "I won't kill you... but I don't have to save you" - that's not the Batman I know. Likewise, the fact that the Joker refuses to help with the investigation even though he's literally about to be executed is gloriously in character. He's also consistently pretty genuinely funny!
Thanks for the video, and thanks for the recommendation!

I find it so infuriating to hear that Joker: Devil's Advocate is out of print and isn't available in digital. Why are the publishers at DC like this? I am trying to get into Batman comics but more often than not I find the comics difficult to get a hold of.
Putting that aside, this was another great video. I do kind of miss the old method of structuring things according to title or form (Batman: Shadow of the Bat and Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, and then Batman related miniseries and one-shots), but I sincerely understand how complex things do get the further you venture into 90s Batman. The excessive and messy publication history of Batman over the decades has aged like milk.

Mayor Grange was a supporting character in the Batman cartoon from 2004. In that show, grange was male instead of female like in the comics, and he was voiced by Adam West.

  • @jakeproven256
    @jakeproven256 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I should note, the Batman adventures comics and other comics that tie into the DCAU, aren’t cannon the DCAU timeline. They have way too many continuity hick ups, not just introducing characters that would get different versions later, but even in the justice league unlimited comics contradicted stuff that was well established in the justice league cartoon, so the adventures comics should really be considered they’d own timeline.

  • @darthbigred22

@35:31 I'm OK with this, part of why Batman works over all other superheroes is because his villains are a lot more realistic as well. They're not merely trying to take over the world a lot of the times they're just murdering innocents for cash.
Why not have a super villain pimp or Chomo? Maybe have Batman break his one rule for that but I am tired of pretending the biggest threats to people are aliens or demi-god type villains. Even old man hating eco terrorist Poison Ivy makes a lot more sense nowadays than say Red Skull, of course the problem is Batman is about as right wing as a character can get and comics are owned by big lefties so we get bi Batman fighting over quid pro quo with Ukraine rather than accepting if they had any guts Batman would be fighting some cartel supervilian and beating the shit out of mexican gang members trying to bring fentynel into Gotham.
