Hey man what's up. It's your old pal suggesting that the current seat fabric be replaced with leather, or a leather-like material. Also, you cannot ever go wrong with black.
I love your content, you are one of the main reasons I got an old car with rust damage, And using your methods I am making decent progress rebuilding the floor.
My E30 is painted in body colour on the inside as well, it's a pre-facelift but i don't think they changed that. Also Schmiedmann has a lot of E30 parts, but they are located in Denmark and Germany i think, so maybe import fees make them too expensive😅 Good work anyways, i love it! If i ever need to do these kind of repairs, i already know what it looks like underneath all the panels thanks to you!😂👍
Thanks, Michael! It was indeed, although at the same time, im trying to make the episodes as snappy and not boring as possible, which means not showing literally 95% of the actually work.
Get a small block of copper and stick it behind holes you want to weld. For example with magnetic clamps. The liquid iron doesn't stick to the copper block and that way you can fill/repair small holes quite easily.
Haha... This is still only a half/mini restoration in my mind. Without stripping the chassis completely, this is the bare minimum required. I see so many people calling a clean, some new parts, and a polish a restoration, I'm not even calling this one a full restoration. The 325i Sport, now thats a full restoration and I can't wait to get back to it.
@@RestoreIt The 325i sport chassis needs to go on a jig because its visibly twisted due to not being supported properly on the spit while having panels (like rear quarters) removed.
There were plenty of those barbed clips holding trim and fluid lines throughout my E46. There are a few on my E91, and, of course, they caused the heat shield to corrode.
@@RestoreIt The barbed clips seem to be phasing out, though. Instead, I see more of the one-time use nylon clips. They slide onto a track for alignment then press into holes on the car. Not bad, but they are the source for water intrusion on the E9x platform. They were revised to have foam washers. Which reminds me: I haven't heard you make mention of the German method of water diversion for doors. Are you aware that the water is channeled through the door's frame and out the holes in the underside? The only protection from egress from factory is foam sheeting and butyl tape. That's why all the lock, side view mirror, etc connectors are insulated!
I've seen only a brief part of the painting process from a production video from way back when and as commentator states there are 3 layers of paint and from my current knowledge it seems rest of the process is the same as always (conveyor line with robot arms) so that slightly different color might be one of those layers. I'm not sure if one of those layers is some sort of primer over e-coat or base to get specific shade.
Thanks for the suggestion Charlo, that is all to come. I'm trying to finish everything 'on top' of the car first before I go to the underside and do a complete overhaul. Cheers!
Aye... the Mercedes was completed, but I do know where you're coming from. Don't worry though, this touring is getting done asap. I really need the space. And then, the 325i Sport will be my main focus until that's finished. Moving countries and workshops so many times to find the right place has delayed things, as well as the Mercedes debacle. Now I'm in a good spot, I'm absolutely set on finishing these projects.
I geniunely Love Restore IT, but over the past 2 years its seemed to be only just rust replacement each time over and over, are we soon to see some things like such as Sunroof Sliding Fixes, Floorpan Drains Fixed up, or even things like Wiring Harness etc. If any of these videos came out and got away from just body work all the time would be amazing just feels we have been on body work now for over a year+ on multiple different cars.
I think you're spot on Owen, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to condense the rest of the bodywork down into one or two episodes and move on from it. When it comes to the 325i Sport, I'm also going to pack all of the bodywork into a couple of episodes. I've had my fill now and I'm sure most of my viewers have as well. I really appreciate the honest feedback, it really helps! Cheers.
@@RestoreItI do like the body work, since it was probably 80% of the work that went into mine. I wish i had your videos when i started. I could probably have used it as a template, including the rear quarter damage.
I really just have to ask; A "Restore It 2" youtube channel has come up as my recommended, which is a fast growing channel and is just uploading YOUR old videos. Is that you or someone else?
It's not that its so desirable, but that I own it and can make content on it. I also need it out of my workshop as I now have less space and I need to funds for the 325i sport project. Cheers!

Wow I'm pleased to hear it, Wendy! I'm glad your enjoying it and good luck with yours!
Y I ! Nice to see so much content on a regular basis. It’s the dream 😊

Thanks for letting me know Bayerische! I've used Schmiedmann a few times in the past, great website and company. I'm glad you're enjoying it! Cheers.
I noticed the bmw dealer is sometimes actually cheaper than Schmiedmann.
Nice update and yes that was a TON of work! Looking forward to the next episode.

I really enjoy watching this while on vacation. Keep it up!
This is the most loved (and lucky) stock e30 325i touring in the universe.....
Nice help from people on How to remove the reservoir.. 👏🏻👏🏻
Yes indeed!

Great job Steven, now I’m definitely looking forward to watching the next episode to see where this project goes!!!
Thank you as always, Micheal!
Quick preparation to sell series turned into a full restoration

Well done 👍💯😊
Thanks!
Great work on the damage mate, I think it's paint no gloss.
Cheers, Dave!
Excellent work!!!
Thank you!!

I just don't get it! Maybe there's no other viable option...

Really enjoying your content and this series in particular. Now slightly scared what lurks beneath on my E36 though...😢
Remove connector, heatshrink then refit connector. A cleaner job than cutting and soldering provided the wries aren't weak.
Why didn't I think of this... thank you Mannion, you just saved me some time. I appreciate it.
No worries! Showing how to remove a connector without wrecking it would make good content too.
interior paint is same as exterior without clear coat :)
Perfect, thank you!
Cool 😎
Cheers dude!
Good job
Thanks!
Someone attached a trailer hitch to....sheet metal? WTF? I don't understand some people.
I know right, haha.
It was me.
I wish I had a definitive answer for an e30 but I know on my e46 m3, the inside/underbody paint was the body paint code color.
I think thats what I'm going with, seems to be what most of the inside is painted in. Cheers!
Muito bom gostei!
Now you see the damage done when backing a tow hitch into something not jacking on it
Interesting... I still think it was improper use of a jack

Thanks for the info Stratos. I think I'm going to go with body colour and no clear.
How many hours have you been working on the 325i now? one hell of a restauration tho.
As a personal suggestion, I would paint the wheel well and the underside of the car with something durable like stoneguard paint
Thanks for the suggestion Charlo, that is all to come. I'm trying to finish everything 'on top' of the car first before I go to the underside and do a complete overhaul. Cheers!
Smashing your finger with the spanner, and the word twat tickled me 😂😂 don't think you could have said that any better
Haha, that hurt more than it looked from the video :D
Why not to use flex seal? 😉
Damn, I didn't think of that! :D
Why you don’t use tig instead of mig
Brother, just use liquid electrical tape for the wires and cover with Tessa tape, cutting and soldering and what not is absolute overkill.
Maybeeee. It won't take me too long to get that done and it'll be nice to know there isn't any electrical tape in there.
The vehicle that was worth spending so much effort should have been the e24 635 CSI so that it would find its value when it was finished.
That's a very specific suggestion Mardina. Sadly I didn't have one of those on hand. Cheers.

Si el clima británico puede acabar con un coche bien protegido como ese, ¿cómo pueden sobrevivir ahí vehículos de los 70 o menos?.
They don't! They have to be restored time and time again depending on use. Cheers!
“Light restoration for sale” 😅😅

IMHO this car would have deserved a full paint removal... personally I don't like the fact the new paint is gonna sprayed on top of the old one.
How can that be a real bird when we now know that birds aren't real? Nice try.
