getting choppy playback on the screen recording and not knowing how to solve that problem when doing reaction videos... also, i have a question for you, i have in total 4GB of memory and 200Gb of storage on my macbook pro and camtasia requires basically ALL of that space in order to work (if i'm understanding their requirements correctly as posted on their site) are they serious about that or am i misunderstanding? do they need all that space for their product to work or are they saying that the computer should have that amount of GBs just because they would assume that it is up to code to handle the product? the reason i want to make sure is because they say "of available space" which sounds like what i dread but i am not tech savvy so i'm asking.

@@f.s.h.g.9763 Anytime you want to do ANY video editing 8GB Min, 16GB is what you want and as for storage just use an external HD it's safer. Even Editing 1080 footage would be a struggle, don't go cheap on a laptop when looking to edit but don't go broke either, spend between $600-$800 on a decent laptop with good specs that has something other then integrated GPUs.

Camtasia is ranked number one choice for screen capture software with video editing ability and unique edit options (that are more feature rich for editing screens, than screen capture options in Vegas Pro that I also use). If you are doing software tutorials with on screen capture, and also great for any video editing, this is the one to get!

It's surprisingly pretty good, at least if you use it (as I do) to record and edit videos that are basically PowerPoints or similar "text+some images" type content. It does a couple of audio tricks -- not many, not great, but I export the audio and enhance it in another program, then import it back in Camtasia, fixed, sync it back to the video and that's fine. It's weak or limited with anything like video enhancement, color correction, etc. With practice, it can be pretty powerful within those limits. Worth considering, especially if you do screen capture. Pretty good at compression when you export or upload the video, also.

I do agree the most difficult part of creating videos is the editing your videos part. I think editing is the most difficult part because you have to find the effects, transitions, and music to add to your videos so you can publish that video onto TH-cam. You have to make your Thumbnails for the video that you took and edited. Editing your videos can take some time like maybe 2 to 4 hours even up to 8 hours. But hey it is all in the process of learning and editing in order to become a TH-camr. Yeah it is going to take some time to learn but hey once you get the hang of it, it is going to be easy for you in the future

Ok Omar, since you e done a video on a video editing software for desktop/laptop, you need to do one for cell phones or all varieties. I just spent to purchase a Galaxy S21 Ultra so that I wouldn't have to purchase an upgraded phone AND a good quality camera all at once. So anything I'm editing, I don't want to have to transfer it to any computer first to edit it. Right now, I'm using 2 different apps to edit with, because the editing tools of VN are easier for me to figure out how to use, but it won't upload to YT in an acceptable format. So I'll upload the fully edited version to my Kinemaster app be cause that one WILL upload it into an acceptable format for YT. And THEN TH-cam has to upload the video to get it up on my Studio. So what ONE SIMPLE TOOLS app for beginners can I use that does EVERYTHING I need to do?

    • @Graphicious

I always record everything at the same time. I don't have the patience to go back and add audio later, or do it the other way, where the audio is first. That sounds like too much work. I usually do quite well on the first take. Most of my tutorials are about Camtasia, recorded with Camtasia (an older version), at the same time. Works out pretty well.

@@RachelSmets Later versions of camtasia support mov files. If upgrading to a newer version of camtasia isn't in the cards, transcoding is a must.
Since Apple used to release QuickTime for Windows, most video software companies used to rely on that. When Apple pulled it, even professional software had problems. I had to transcode all mov files to work on windows, at one time. Premiere, aftereffects, camtasia. .didn't matter, QuickTime was gone. Most have caught up by now and restored the functionality.
As for handbrake, it's been a little while since I used it, but it was always good to me. What kinds of problems is it giving you? Are you changing any specific settings or just using presets?
If hanbrake isn't working, and upgrading isn't for you, here are a couple other very good options.
Vidcoder (basically handbrake with some slight differences)
Shutter Encoder- found this one recently. Probably my favorite so far.

@@debtminer4976 @Debt Miner Thanks for your reply. It's not that I can't upgrade but it has all I need in this version except the MOV file issue. Last years version wasn't ready for MOV either so if you say now it is....I'm surprised (happily).
So, I was also thinking about final cut pro, would you recommend that IF I decide to either upgrade Camtasia or go to that one, what would you do?
About Handbrake, I emailed customer service etc....and Techsmith so I won't bother you with the details, but yes, there are sometimes issue with lighting that changes and they don't even know how to fix it.
I downloaded the shutter one now, and I don't see ''mp4'' in the function.
All I need is convert from MOV to mp4, what function setting do you select? I will try it.
Do you have a channel too, I'd be so happy to support you!

@@RachelSmets No channel with content, but thanks. TH-cam is just chill time for me.
As for final cut, if you want to go deeper into editing, then i'd say that's a good choice, price vs feature wise. Resolve is a good system at a good price, but you'd be in the very deep end with little hand holding. They have a free version though, so if you're interested in ''pro'' software, you can try/learn resolve at no financial risk. I love resolve. Premiere, well.. good software, but subscription is really only worth it, if you're getting paid or don't mind paying for the education. If time for learning is an issue, I don't think you'll get high value from a subscription software like that.
Either way.. keep your expectations realistic. When people say ''pro'' software, they typically mean software that gives you a lot of control. This control comes with a learning curve. Unless you're going to stock sites, the software will not hold your hand too much for titles, lower thirds etc.. like camtasia will.
So, if you want to explore your creative and technical side, go for fcpx or free version of resolve. If you just want to get your message out, having easy access to quick, simple and pleasing aesthetics, along with an industry respected screen recorder, stick to camtasia.
I'll put a more technical write up separately.

Video editing is actually my favorite part, but I often look at multiple software reviews as I'm not dead set on any yet. However, recording (or at least knowing what to record) is my biggest frustration. Love video editing, hate figuring out how to make the video.

I use Camtasia all the time I love it. But I no longer use the music. Every time I use Camtasia music I get a strike. From the same people claiming it is there's. So I always have to contact the same people to get them to release the music so I can get rid of the claim. I also have had to put a dispute with TH-cam so as to let them know I own the rights to the content. It happens so often that I ended up giving up on Camtasia music and settled for the TH-cam music library.

Hello. My name is Robert. I cut out part of my video with TH-cam video editing. Audio has been shortened, but video hasn't changed and ads have appeared. The video is unusable. Everything is fine in the TH-cam studio with my video. There it has changed. But on-air video is horrible. Maybe someone knows what I can do. Thank you.
