The RED KOMODO 6K is such a nice, compact cinema camera that it could be easily mistaken as RED’s first approach to reach out to the vlogging community. @@Joey_Helms Loved this video! In your opinion, for someone like me who wants to go hiking through the mountains of scandinavia, would the komodo be a great camera for that? I understand that it's small, but I've heard it requires a lot of bulky/expensive things to rig it up with that makes it like a $10,000-$15,000 investment rather than just $6,000. Also, it wouldn't do me much good for travel if I had to rig it up like crazy. What do you think? I see you're trying to keep your rigging small as well. Would it be worth getting the komodo over let's say an a7siii? Is the image quality really that much better?

Cool to see someone focus on minimal rigging, not the most exaggerated rig! The terrible commercial was awesome, and the cameo from Santa on the CTA Holiday Train really stole the show. (But Land mentioning continuous AF was coming to the Komodo was a good runner-up.)

Agreed about hard to tell focus on the smallhd monitor. Would have been an almost perfect product if it had been 1080p instead. Been using the 702 touch instead because of that issue.

Great video format! This channel is going to blow up. Only issue with this video isn't actually anything to do with the video itself, it's the fact that a lot of these things are going to run up the Komodo bill even more...RIP wallet, lol.
IMHO, it starts to beg the question of if the value of the camera is worth it if this is your A cam or you're not getting multi-man, big budget projects consistently. If you go with that monitor ($700), outrigger ($500), an RF lens ($2000+, but even the 18-35 has you nearing 10k total), red approved cfast ($750 for prograde on sale), and a vmount ($700+) you're going over 10k pretty quickly for a "minimal" setup. We haven't even gotten to audio yet. You could get 2 BMPCC6K rigs for that or an FX6+a7siii.
Is R3D + global shutter really worth that price tag for your smaller teams or one-man bands? It's a tough call.

I am curious to know whether you will go all in RED and shelve the EVA 1 and buy a second Komodo. I do love the image from the EVA 1 you grade it well brother. Love your work champ keep it up.

I want to upgrade from my A7s II and thought the FX6 would be the best choice - but komodo offers so many new possibilities and i want to finally get away from Sony...

imo komodo is not worth the money, I used it for 2 weeks for commercial/music video/weeding. And still feel like it's a more expensive but no better version of zcam/bmpcc 6k, it's DR is the same as bmpcc maybe half stop better in shadow. Also the camera is so slow, almost like 10 years old, gloable shutter is good, but not as useful as I thought. no internal ND filter for such price today is a direct vote down. I purchased c70, and I can tell its a more proper camera than komodo, great color, great auto focus, awsome DR(way better and cleaner) and internal ND! I'm going to test the fx6 soon, tho I already feel it's gurrented will be lot better. Canon and Sony are big company, and know how to build great camera. Red is a marktor instead of a camera maker. I sold my 2 scarlet-w because I just can't stay with that low quality machine. If you got the money to play with, and you r a real filmmaker, camera choice doesn't matter anyways. But if you love Red only, then komodo is probably the best choice so far, you just have to keep in mind that red is very famous of using extremely cheap parts to build their camera, especially their accessories, it can go as low as 10% of its price tag.

Ps. It would be interesting to hear Philip Grossman speak more on exposing the low light scenarios he encounters in the sketchy places he films in. I'd be interested in hearing how he goes about exposing his RED's on the go or dealing with less than optimal conditions where he can't control the light but needs the shot.. Seems to be a topic of discussion right now in choosing the Komodo vs other cameras.

GREAT informative video Joey! ... Can you please tell me if the Rode Video mic that using will deliver audio to the SD card in the Red Komodo, if the Red Komodo is shooting in 4k at 60 FPS. Or will it only do that at a slower speed? Or??
Great video! I was wondering what you think the best way to bake in audio with the Komodo is or if that's even possible with this camera? I typically record separately to a Zoom H6 and use the sync feature in Resolve 17. While that usually works, sometimes it seems like the audio is a few milliseconds off and I have to go manually adjust. Would love to be able to bake in my audio to save some time in the long run. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!
I'm curious to know how much heavier it would be to go with the tilta v mount plate plus those micro v mount batteries over just the canon batteries. Or how much length it adds to the overall rig over just using canon batteries. Also, you think the 7" SmallHD would be too big?

Man this camera is so cool. My one question was: can I take this around for travel filmmaking and that is what you addressed. I am still a little bit concerned with The lack of weather sealing though.
Also the camera does get noticeably awkward in shape when you try to connect a microphone on the side opposite the handle. If they made a handle where you can put the microphone on top, it might balance the rig a lot better!
Yeah I wish it was weather sealed but cine cameras are rarely. Yeah my microphone placement here is not ideal. With the rod handle it is much better cause I can mount it on top.

Thank you for all your work :) For a smallest setup, could you test the Red Komodo with the EF Lens Sigma 17_50 F2/8 ?! This old lens is really cheap and versatile .. For a real run & gun mode, I'm thinking about this lens instead of a cinema lens. What you think about ? Maybe it's better option than the famous Sigma 18-35 which is maybe too heavy, not enough small

In Chile, where I live, the most powerful computer you can get in Apple is the iMac Pro, in base configuration (10 cores and 32 gb of ram memory) Will this be enough to work comfortably in Davinci Resolve? Happy to hear that and congrats on your Komodo. By no means am I a computer expert. I noticed that my 2015 iMac struggles in resolve but is fine editing R3Ds in FCPX. I would ask in reduser.net for advice :)

Does anyone know how to recover files that have been formatted using this camera? I used a cfast memory card and a team member formatted the camera without dumping the footage. Is it a way to recover footage?
