- A lot of people want to know how to make money off grid, but the way our off grid wilderness homestead pays dividends is even even better. Our homestead, in its 14th year now, pays us all the time. Food, water, electricity, fire wood, and a mortgage free cabin in the woods. I figure it saves us at least $30k a year which translates into an extraordinary way to live and raise kids.

I believe that Jeff should be considered the unelected spokesperson for off-grid living. In fact... If Jeff was any more enthusiastic about off grid living (then he is now) then it would seem like he's selling used cars on T.V. ... and nobody likes used car salesmen. But everybody loves Jeff. When you consider all of the myriad of different gifts that God has bestowed upon Jeff, it's Jeff's undying enthusiasm for this way of life that sets this channel apart from all of the rest. I am certain that for many many generations to come good people will always remember Jeff for the way he worked to help others realize that they too can also dedicate their lives to acquiring total Gridlessness for themselves and for their families.
In that sense Gridlessness is not just a channel on the internet... Gridlessness is an attainable goal that all people can work to achieve.
I am certain that there is no other channel on the interwebs that can demonstrate the high echelons of success that Jeff, Rose, and the girls, have realized on so many different levels in their last 14 years of off-grid living. I've been a huge fan of this channel for more than a long time now. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the Birkenshaw family build their own little slice of The Garden of Eden in what would otherwise be considered this extremely troubled world. Which has always given me a feeling of hope for the future every time I tune in. It seems like it was only yesterday that Kezzer was a cute little kid who was learning how to play the piano and taking her first shots with a long rifle. Heck... It really wasn't that long ago that young Keziah was interviewing Donald (Tree) Stump in regards to the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
While Abigail was playing the role of the D.C. lobbyist, rubbing Dave's feet, and serving him single malt scotch whisky. How time fly's.
Now I turn around and Kez isn't a cute little kid anymore... She's a seriously gorgeous female who has entered into the doorway of womanhood. Which stands as a testament to how far the Birkenshaw's have come in such a relatively short time. While in almost the same moment we have the honor of seeing Dave Silver Tree's again? We get to reprise the experience of Jeff and Dave sitting together on camera where Jeff is being Jeff, and Dave is playing his reactionary role to Jeff's one of a kind, excited, eager, and anxious, off-grid monologue. Talk about Christmas coming early this year. Now all we're missing is Sarah cracking one liner's and it really would be just like old times. But at the beginning of a very new era.
So with all that being said... All I have left to say to all of you today is...

Those are 2011 prices. Maybe 2018… plus the other thing is they compare apples to oranges. It’s not just how much a family spends on food, but how much the equivalent food costs. Organic, non gmo, non stress animals, etc. if you could buy gourmet, how much would that be? Then there’s the mortgage, your price was humble and conservative if comparing acreage and outbuildings etc. electric is hundred per month for even small homes now, water bills for my city family have been a couple thousand per year for decades now…

I'm doing my own thing... no mortgage. $60 in power but I don't have solar yet...garden ...my 2 acres is only $60 in taxes...I can have 2 growing seasons. I have blueberries grapes and passion fruit just wildly growing...fruit trees .... don't have much for animals yet...I just started last year.

Greetings from the land of Blaze King, thanks for the video. For sure with any enterprise in life, figuring out what the numbers actually are, then crunching them to see how it all pencils out is the only way to know where you're at. Once we know where we are at, we can formulate a plan for where we'd like to go - keeping track of the numbers along the way of course. Two store bought fancy coffees a day add up for instance. Stay well.

11:25 Free Power
I don't use batteries ‐ in the sense yall do.
Instead, I compress air using solar panels and windmills.
All I need is minimal equipment, which I made myself, that uses sunlight and wind to compress air.
The compressed air is stored in a two thousand gallon system at 80 psig.
When I need power, I run a small air engine (also homemade) that powers an electric generator.
Simple is best (4 me).

Amazing video guys. Nice touch with the Northern Lights at the end. We've been on our homestead for 15? years, and the pay-off is so much more than financial as I'm sure you'd agree. Gonna have to check out your campout.
You should definitely try SunGold cherry tomatoes (if you can get them over there?) Easy to grow, full of flavour and sugars . Just the most tomato flavoured tomatoes you'll ever taste.
