  • Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the sights and sounds of pure set of 16-710-G3B prime movers in Union Pacific EMD SD70M's. You just GOT TO LOVE, the sweet sound of the Nathan P-3 horns. I would LOVE to have a set of these to put on my 1985 Mack Superliner.
These were shot in April 2001 on the D&RGW Soldier Summit Route...
Please be sure to check out my many other video clips from the 1970's up to today.
    God Bless

I always prefer the late 90s early 2000s SD 70m from UPRR that came either with the nathan K5LA and the new cast SP-era P3! and them flat vertical radiators and pre flags paint. Now most they're equipped with the Nathan K3LA.

A fantastic video! I do love the sounds of both the SD70's climbing along with the Nathan NP3 horns! An excellent combination! How did you get so lucky to film this?

That's a while ago. They tore down Carbon Power Plant years ago because of the war on coal.

Yes they did. I think I included that on the caption of the video. Its happing everywhere. My son works for NS and runs the coal fields in SW PA. The mines are closing one after another, and Huff and Sholocta power plants are supposed to be added to the list of closed coalfired plants as well. I was lucky enough to ride the Escalante Western, before the plant at Prewitt, NM. closed. Very sad, this war on coal. It certainly devastated the area I'm in.

@@1jackdk I was raised in Emery County. The coal mines and power plants were the life blood of the economy. Two power plants are still in service, but most mines are closed. It turned a nice quiet and small community into a drug haven in less than 20 years. Huge unemployment rates as well.
