- Kevin and Mike road test this freshly swapped LS DeLorean and push it to its limits along the way. #autorepair #delorean #classiccars #deloreannation #automobile #cars #deloreandmc12 #deloreandmc12 #engineswap #ls #lsswap #lsswaptheworld #chevy #corvette #1980s #1981 #horsepower #fastcars #whynot #carsofinstagram #youtube #carshow #2023 #followme #follow #automotive #letsgo
Now this car will hit 88 mph with no problem at all
Only takes 9 seconds to hit 88!
perfect on a mall parking lot lol
the original engine had no problem hitting 88. it could got about 110
@@SuperChalkster Just because it could hit 110 doesn't mean it would do it in the short distances shown in the movies ;)
@@nstg8 well the first movie heading towards the lightning took about 2 mins to reach 88 I think it can beat that 😂
Before driving the Car, he looked bored. After driving the Car, he got very excited. That tells me that was indeed a great engine swap.
Your right Richard. Thrill ride for sure!!
That's an amazing result. That's perfect performance for this.
Thanks Michael! I am very happy with the way it turned out.
Honestly this is what makes the delorean seem like what it was in back to the future. The sound too.
That's the type engine the DeLorean should have been made with! Thats AWESOME!! 88mph?? Piece of cake!
Put a turbo and some tall gears on it, then hire Michael J Fox to say “let’s see if you bastards can do 190”
That motor will actually take an lsa/ls9 supercharger with some adapter plates. Imagine that whine coming from behind your head. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing someone do the first c8 z06 swap in a delorean
Whoa, this is heavy.
I need to know how many times did people stop you to check this car out?!! This is awesome. Your love and excitement of restoring DeLorean cars is impressive!
Thanks for watching! We had it on display at our open house in August and did a lot of Q&A with it as well as this video. It is now back with its owner.
So I'm sitting here watching the Back to the Future movies on Netflix, and I think "what would a V8 be like in one of those cars" and I'm glad I stumbled on this video. What a beautifully swapped car! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video guys! Getting to do some of the video in the car I can say that it really felt solid and well built! Ran like a dream! I'm going to need a faster drone lol!
nothing like ls swapped these mid engine cars. i cant wait to ls swap one of my fieros
DMCs aren't mid-engine.
So cool. Do it!!
That’s a setup that would make JZD proud. Well done!
I do hope so! Thank you.
Awesome video!!! Can you please make a 60-0 video with a car that has your big brake kit vs stock. I really want to pull the trigger but I would like to see the difference tested.
That is a great idea for a video.
@@joshschattenkirk If maybe the car had a possible rear brake upgrade too… 🫣
We will get to work on said video!
@@deloreannation Awesome! I can’t wait! Love what you guys are doing!
😮300 ponies is perfection for that car 🚗, beautiful stainless steel 🤠🤟💯
Imagine throwing some boost at that motor, LSs love boost
@@nstg8 BOOST 💥💣🤠🤘
Great content! Very cool drone views.
Thanks for the feedback!
Beautiful work. This is how the DeLorean should've always been.
Nice work guys, great video! Making me seriously consider LS swappimg my car.
I was one of the first people to LS swap their DMC. If you have the means, just do it. You won't regret it.
As it should Be 😎
I couldn't agree more.
Another youtuber is doing a delorean restore, I hope he LS swaps it because this looked amazing to drive.
You must be talking about Legit Street Cars. Alex is doing a great job on the car. Excited to help him and see what he does with it. Can't wait to see more.
I would love to see someone do an ls swap in one of these using something other than the stock UN1 transmission, maybe a Porsche G50 or even a full on LT5/TR-9080 from a C8Z
Wow.... This is what it should have been from day-1. Could you imagine the sales figures, if the original could pull like this one does! But budget costs always come into it, along with regulations.
the LS1 didnt exist in 1981. the car wouldnt have performed great with a smogged out 305 or 350 either, which is all they had in that era that was emissions legal, any 305 of 350 from that era that still had performance would have been a custom hot rod build and not as sold to the general public. the horsepower of a 1981 camaro Z28 with a 350 was sub 200 hp. the ford 302 from that era was equally abysmal. the V8's back then were almost all iron block which might have done much for the handling on this car (weight). for it's era there probably wasnt much better.
better things came out AFTER the delorean had run it's short production cycle (sadly, it is a cool car). often times when you mate the old school car with some newer tech, it's a match made in heaven.
I don't know how tall you guys are, but I'm always noticing how many people inside a DeLorean end up with their heads 'inside the cutout'??
I'm 5'10". I've seen 6'4" drivers make it work with a little seat reclining.
It sounds perfect. 🤩 Wonder if it would take an old Mercedes V6 commonrail diesel or an older SAAB 2,3 liter inline 4 . That must be way lighter, and will easily output the same amount of HP. 😎
I really need to do this to mine. Just hate to stray from original equipment.
Tough decision to make for sure.
You can always go back.
great work
Thanks Alexx, I owe you a ride!
Beautiful sound
Reliability is there, serviceability is there, headroom is not there. LOL
Facts!
Surprisingly with the seat leaned back some. 6'3" tall people can make it work.
Pretty respectful 1/4 mile time on a non-prepped track. The 98-02 Firebirds and Camaro's with the same motor made about 320 wheel HP stock, and ran low to mid 13's in the quarter mile. I assume the DeLorean is a bit lighter than those late 4th gen Fbodies. Would love to see Paul throw a bigger cam and some ported 243 heads on that, lol, that would add close to 100 rwhp with the proper bolt-on mods.
Funny you use that comparison. I also own a 02 Firehawk and yes this power is similar. DeLorean with this setup weights roughly 2850lbs. Good amount lighter than a F-body. Remarkable how little wheelspin this rear engine setup has.
Wow! Just wow.
Thanks! Such a thrill.
Fastest Delorean I've ever seen!
180 degree headers would have made this car sound as fast as it probably is.
Well done Gentlemen
I know John Delorean worked for GM, I'm not sure of he had a hand in designing this engine (the previous version I mean), . Seems fitting if he did.
incredible , thats the fastest 0-60 ive seen in a delorean
Thanks. Same here on the 0 to 60.
I think that DeLorean should be able to get to 88 mph pretty quick... so, BE CAREFUL haha Greetings from down under
Doesn't take long!
What's the weight distribution after the swap? Should bring it to the scale and weigh the front and rear separately.
The engine swapped out on a Delorean wouldnt bother me, But i bet it makes some of the purists sick.
Our shop is happy to service the purists and the original PRV engine. For those who love the 80's look but not the 80's performance this is a good option.
i wonder how one of these cars would run with a 3800 supercharged (with inter-cooler and turbo/pulley swaps)
Cool
It would be nice to see a six speed Corvette gearbox..
I do offer a 6 speed 911 transmission. Needs to be a rear engine rear drive setup.
You can’t with this geometry of car. The C7 is front engine, the C8 is mid engine, and this is rear engine. The transmission is a transaxle, meaning the output comes directly out of the sides of the longitudinal transmission. Another similarly configured car is the Porsche 911, and those transmissions are sometimes used as upgraded units in DeLoreans.
Car definitely needs a dry sump kit. That low-hanging oil pan really makes me nervous...
Exactly what I was thinking. That looks ready to cause major damage from anything more than about 3 inches high.
@@mikeyc8139oops went over a speedbump, time for a new engine! lol
Love this car but 3:40 is that the low hanging oil pan hitting the ground?
Do you all source the motors/trans or is that up to the buyer if you are doing the install?
damn..it wont have any problem reaching that 88mph now..
WOW!!
What is the year of the LS engine or model number?
Who did the build??? My next project.
Glad this one got a V8, as God intended.
Best swap for Deloran is Porsche's 6 cylinder engine
No the best is to replace the V6PRV with a more modern V6PRV!!! Not forgott that the most powerfull serial built V6PRV produce 408hp (on Venturi 400)
You know who found and first tried those Borla mufflers? :) :) :)
Mike did. I really like these mufflers. THANKS MIKE!!!
Always knew you had great taste!
I'm not sad that my 2019 audi A3 does 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.
How DeLorean should've made it. SBC and better transaxle
Why wouldn’t you swap with the fwd LS4
This is an LS4. Rear engine rear drive setup in a DeLorean.
@@michaelmcelhattan7238 the intake threw me off.
If you dont want a ls in a delorean what 6cyl options are there?
We do also offer a k24 swap.
The old Buick 3.8 liter V6 (3800) turbocharged
@willthetrill4849 i was thinking a tacoma 3.4
can you do a how to
Need a liberty Walk delorean
Real Americans drive manual cars .
I love that line!
What is the new hp and does this effect the range at all?
watch the video, they say hp is 360
88 in 9.8 seconds*
Closer to 9.5!
9.42, they show in the vídeo
K swap one
so as about as fast as a 2001 24v turbo golf gti with a stage 2 chip.
Piss on another LS swap. I love LS and have owned several, but you've got a Delorean, and LS swaps in GM based vehicles is so boring that it's ridiculous. Part of engine swaps is trolling. "Haha, we took a Ford Mustang, and put a SBC in it. Haha." "Haha, we took out that POS Rotary in a FD RX7, and put a good LS engine in it and now the car is faster, better, more reliable, and no real weight gain." Do you see?
You want to still LS swap in 2023, and be cool, then LS swap a MKIV Supra RZ, or LS swap a R35 GTR. Hell, LS swap a 911 GT3. Still LS swapping a Delorean is 0 cool, because it's non-offensive, and everything has been LS swap. This is probably like the 10th Delorean to be LS swapped. You need a mid-engine setup then do a C8's LT2 swap, or a FGT (GEN1 or 2) swap. Coyote would be the perfect swap for a Delorean.
LS4 is a POS. It's actually the original POS SBC. Before LS4 your SBC was one of the most reliable engines ever. Since LS4 the SBC has become one of the most unreliable POS engines ever. I knew someone who needed a L83 replaced in a 21 LT Z71 with only 3,100 miles. WTF is that? LS4 introduced that DOD BS. I've known several people who have suffered cam and engine failures due to AFM/DFM issues.
JOHN D WOULD BE PROUD
Ls427#?
No thanks.
