Magic beans looks to be amazing. Such an ambitious project to undertake and you guys have done an amazing job it looks like. This is huge for the Audiophile community.
Awesome video! Can’t wait to try this in my small space. About to upgrade from 5.1.2 to 7.2.4 (which is already nuts) so being able to fine tune it like this will be GREAT!
Hey Channa. I hope you're well. The holidays can be tough after what youve just gone through. Stay strong bro. When can us regular folk get our hands on the beans
I have just purchased the full dirac live with bass control license for my 3800. I also have Mult EQX on that 3800. I'm running 7.4.4 and would love to give you guys some feedback around how these target curves integrate with those systems
Hey Channa - Great video once again. Would like to see a tutorial on Anthem ARC. Really agree with the direction you and Joe are going with the Magic Beans tuning method.
Thank you for the video, Channa! 🙂 Would be awesome to see the process for a device with Dirac. Especially with the various options the Magic Beans App provides for this (Global target, per speaker group and Bass Control filters). Is the app already released and I just missed it? If it's not released yet: Any rough ETA for it? I'm really looking forward to it. 😊
Good tutorial! Why disable the headroom management? Is it because you don't actually put in a target curve in MultiEQ-X so it isn't necessary? Or is there a danger somewhere in this method to overdrive the speakers? Come to think of it, what is the maximum increase in db's Magic Beans allows in the filters? And can you adjust it per speaker? My sub usually needs a bit more work than the other speakers. Thanks again and can't wait tot try the app out myself!
I will buy Magic Bean although I do feel my media room is sounding great to my liking. So at least if nothing else, then would like to see how my liking compares with calibration tools. I was one of first 100, to order Audio calibration. It’s far better than all tools I have tried so far.
Channa, does the Dayton Audio UMM-6 USB Microphone work to do the measurements or do I have to buy the UMIK-1 Mic? Thank you in advance for your response.
I am setting up my new 5.2.6 Dolby Atmos on my Marantz SR8015... I have already bought the SACT discs. What I would like to know is, with the mic, and associated hw/ and the Magic Beans software, Does it REALLY make a noticable difference from just using Audysee (to get you in the ballpark) and use SACT to fine tune? This would be another $500 investment.. if it is only going to improve maybe 3-4% maybe not worth the investment for me? ( just bought a JVC 3100 also, so bleeding money right now) How much of an imrovementis there really?
I like that idea. I can help with that. Unlike other room correction software, I recommend people take before and after measurements to see if it did what was expected. We have an RTA alignment feature that does allow you to see the measured response post-EQ. You can see it when Channa is using it to align the sub levels. In the pinned comment, it does mention that the scale for the low frequencies are incorrect since it is actually showing down to 10Hz even though it’s labeled as 20Hz. It will be fixed on the next build.
Amazing video. Congratulations. I would be happy to experiment this calibration on my system. 2 little questions: 1/ On which volume on the avr do you make your measurements: -25?, -20?... Is there an average for that? 2/ I have 4 subs and you have 2 in your bedroom. You put te average volume on 82db to make the measurements of the LFE. Should I have to put another value because I have 4 subs? The subs are connected 2 by 2: 2 for the front en 2 for the rear. Do you have an idea when it will be released on the market and at which price. Will there be a version for Androïd and Windows. Thank you very much
1. Assuming the REW input signal volume is at -12db. You need to set your avr volume to -18dbfs. That takes measurements at 75db level 2. The reason he increased the volume sub is he wanted more bass as well as per the app suggested target. So the sub needs to handle that volume under crossover point. You cannot copy the same value. Every system is different.
When you have such a decent avr why would you want to use it's accueq? Are you not satisfied with its dirac performance? Anyways, this will not be supporting for accueq manual GEQ equalizer. Via REW we can achieve it more better than this.
interesting, seems easy enough still little fuzzy on the sub measurement portion (what was the sub set at prior to measurement? or does it matter?). I fear this won't be cheap investment with the audyssey x app 199.00, a calibrated mic 140.00 and the cost of magic beans i can see the app being 200(ish) after all that i fear may be a pricy investment.
Great Video🙂, thank you; but i don't understand how this verification process at the end works? Could you please explain this a bit more; would be nice!
Love your videos...I have your spatial audio DVD and it has helped me make some improvements. My issue is, I have a Sony STR-AZ5000ES receiver...As far as I know I can't use Dirac or REW and my receiver only has bass and treble adjustments for it's EQ. Magic Beans look amazing but I'm sure I can add it to the list of programs I can't use. Do you know of any work arounds? I have a 7.2.4 setup.
Hello Sir, what about using the method but with the mic pointing to the ceiling (90 degree) instead of pointing at the speaker (0 degree), would that work ? Thanks
Happy new year Chana. Can you guys do a demo on the marantz av7706 & the emotiva rmc1 if possible? And is there a limit on how many subs can be done with this app?
Now I can see why ya'll said there was " No Bass ". That Target curve at the low end looks like a cliff. Nice to actually see measurements and documented changes of something you are talking about. Kudos to that. Always better to have a proof / verification behind the words.
I don't get it. Magic Beans is designing a target curve, but I have a "target" sound in mind that I want my system to get as close to as possible. That's MY target--the sound I want. What makes the Magic Beans target better than mine? Magic Beans looks like a great way to make the filters, but the filters are to make my system sound as close to possible to what True Target thinks my target should be?
I used the saved/exported filters from Android True Target(MBs) and sent via email to laptop. For whatever reason when I imported the filters into Audyssey MultEQ-X it says "The Import of 0 supported EQ items was successful"? I had ran/saved previously the MultEQ-X and picked up where you imported the saved files from MBs, but don't understand why its not importing anything? AVR(Denon AVR-X4300H) is on the list of AVRs and is connected, but am missing something... Everything you've done, I was able to do. I can see the physical text files for the filters...
Can you do Arcam? I am an Arcam AVR20 owner and there is not a lot of content out there for Arcam in general. All the best for the New Year Techno Dad!
We have an export method for 10-band graphic EQ. Denon only allows 9 bands so you would just ignore the first 20Hz band. Denon allows GEQ on every speaker, but for some reason, it doesn't allow it for the sub. That's a limitation on their end.
Multi EQ X is an Audyssey paid extra software. Denon and Marantz are the receivers that use Audyssey and so that’s a paid upgrade option for any of those receivers that work with Audyssey and support the upgrade. You can also export 10 band eq which would work with Audyssey (not upgraded). It’s just not going to be as precise as if you had the Multi EQ X paid upgrade.
@TechnoDad I noticed you need to move/bouncing the microphone a lot during the measures. Does the magic beam algorithm counts Doppler Effect due to microphones moviment ?
This is not an issue as the signal is not a typical sine sweep that requires the mic to be in a static position. Periodic pink noise generally plays all of the frequencies at the same at the same level and it repeats over and over. It’s as close as we can get to a constant full range sound of all frequencies being played at the same time.
Assuming there is a great target curve for my brain, room and equipment. Why is the one MB comes up with, that curve? I believe i is, I just wonder why.
Be great if this could be used with the $20 mobile app. Is that app a bit of a walled garden? I see you can import files to it and I could have sworn that I saw a TH-camr import a target curve before.

I have a Marantz SR7010 and it cannot be updated to the Audyssey app. I hope that the Magic Beans app gives a good insight of what's happening in my room with my speakers and how to set things up properly.
@joentell yes but I would like to see the setup process since you guys only have show audyssey multeq x, I do have arcam avr30 with bass control and as soon you release the magic beans app I'll be all in .
@joentell also FYI I was one of the first people that bought spatial audio calibration tool cd on the live stream you guys did when it was released, I really like all you guys do for the community 😀, please tell Shanna I'm still waiting for auro 3d demo disc lol I ask for it in his patreon 😆 more than one year ago.
Yamaha would be great. It all seems pretty easy until you load the results into the receiver. That seems a bit confusing and Yamaha could be a challenge
Nothing you can create to sell to followers can make a Denon or Marantz sound as good as a Onkyo Rz50 or Anthem 740. I have a Marantz cinema 50, Denon 3800 and onkyo rz50. Your biggest issues in your room is lack of acoustic treatment. You can't convince me your room sounds good man. Especially with those tint height channels
I have had all those AVRs as well (or another version of them) and sadly, they all do the same thing. They all tune to a generic target curve that has nothing to do with your room. When you create a custom target curve based on your room taking into consideration the capabilities of your speakers, you will inherently get a better experience. That's what True Targe by Magic Beans Audio does.
Real world use trumps professional use case. Most people's home theater is their living room, with windows, hardwood floors, and vaulted ceilings. Correcting for imperfect reality is more important than starting perfect in an ideal room.
And nothing will make the RZ50 or Anthem 740 sound as good as the Arcam AVR30, and I own the RZ70 as well, like TechnoDad said, they all basically do the same thing, you can calibrate each receiver to your own liking...
Dear Channa, I wish you and your Family a very happy, healthy and safe 2024 🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🍻🥂🥃 Best Regards, From Your follower Paul and his son Aaron (from The Netherlands)
Please! Spend your money on room acoustics treatments! Money way better spent than on any calibration software. That room is an acoustic train wreck. Until you treat that room you’re wasting your time.
I’ve got a Marantz sr7015 and a Panasonic ubd 820, what would be the best way to get the Spacial Audio True Target, on disc or down load ? I use a Mac.

SPILL THE BEANS…just kidding .can i use the mic that came with the Denon X4700H. Will it still work as good?
Hi! You would want to use a calibrated mic for the measurements.
If this is compatible with EmoQ PEQ then I am in 👍
Not exactly. You can do it for free via REW.
Will this work with the umm6 mic?
As long as it's a calibrated mic that has a calibration file, it should work

Hi! Our physical disc is compatible with the Panasonic blu ray player, the Magic Beans app is a separate product.

Okay!
