I use black socks for erasers. We store the dry erase marker in the sock. The kids love to put them on their hands to erase. I’ve had the same set for years. I wash and dry them throughout the year. They hold up so well.
i REALLY want to be a teacher but school is just not an option for me right now for personal reasons. watching teachertube fills a hole in my heart 💕💕💕 so inspiring.
I used baby/ small child socks from Dollar Tree for student erasers. My 5th graders loved them. They put the sock on their hands and erased their boards. I washed them a few times throughout the year and during the summer. They lasted for years.
Would love a video on organization!! Also I’d love to see how you reorganize your folders by skill vs Fundations and a video diving more into your WIN block. Always look forward to Sundays with Susan! 😁
For dry marker erasers I use the small round makeup remover cloths from Dollar Tree. I think there are 2-3 in a pack for $1.25. Yes, the kids did draw on them, but they are washable and you can reuse them! As always, great video!
For dry marker erasers, I plan to buy the solid black ones for this year. Last year I bought the colorful ones and pretty soon they get drawn on and look gross. With the black foam/black eraser, even if the kids write on them, you can’t see it!
I came to say the same thing! I have also bought sheets of black felt (black won’t show when they get dirty) and cut into squares to make erasers. Students keep them in their pencil box with their expo marker 😊
Hi Susan! Another great video, thanks! I would love a video on how you organize your small group center and what materials you keep there for yourself to have on hand as well as how you organize your small group lessons. Thanks!
How cute is your husband's performance :) and awesome that he comes and helps you to set up everything in the classroom...I wish every husband should be ...haha
I have found that felt works great for my class. I just cut the felt up in to squares at the beginning of the year and put them in a bucket for whenever a student needs to replace theirs. Cheap and easy to store away.
I teach first grade and the kids use socks as whiteboard erasers! I did it out of desperation the first time because the kids were losing or destroying their erasers and I had a bunch of clean socks with no partner at home so I cut those up and brought them in! The next year I bought a pack of kids blacks socks, cut them into thirds, and that was their “eraser sock”. We call them eraser socks and the kids always think it’s funny that they’re using a sock! You can even wash them at the end of the year. They are small so they can get lost or thrown away during a desk clean up but by cutting them into thirds I had extra. I would usually give them another but if they kept losing them or there were no more they used a Kleenex or their hand.
For wipe board erasers I use kids size black socks, I wash every once in a while. Love your lakeshore purchases. I teach Kinder and some would be great for my morning tubs and indoor recess.
I used to love using the dollar tree soap holders for the crayons. I was watching this while preparing to leave to dollar tree and saw the clear ones you mentioned, and ran to Michael’s and got them for 79¢ each. Yay! Thanks for sharing.
Hi, I'm from Australia and I love watching your videos. So great that your school gives you a budget for your class. Schools here also do that. I thought I would comment about the playdough. You mentioned you will use it during the first week of school and I wasn't sure what you do with it after. My daughters OT recommends playdough as a great tool for children to use to strengthen their handwriting muscles. Just an idea, maybe you could add playdough to your indoor recess options, or your soft start morning activity options. The children will be playing while also strengthening those muscles. You could maybe add with it playdough number/letter/shape mats.
Your class looks amazing! I would love an organizational video!! I love that you put the foam stacking blocks in a laundry hamper. What a great idea!! I use cut up black microfiber towels as student whiteboard erasers. Can you link your floor numbers and your 10 frame numbers please.
Thank you! I will definitely do an organization video! The foam blocks actually came with that container making it even easier for me - woo hoo! The floor numbers are from amazon here: amzn.to/4bUriQk The 10 frame numbers are only in the SJT Math CLub currently, but I will let you know if those become a freebie!
The best dry erasers that I have found is squares of felt! I buy black square felt sheets from Walmart and cut them in fourths! I by 10 sheets for less than $4 and make 40 erasers! They can be washed and reused too!
Idea for dry erase boards....from the dollar tree (which now charges $1.25 instead of $1.00) I buy a set of 3 per pack of Microfiber Facial Pads. Each kid keeps one in their FUNdations pouch. Simple to use and I usually get another class set every 2 years. Decide if you and to wash and rinse them or buy another one each year.
I got some navy blue washcloths for erasers...never looked stained and I wash them in a landromat when they need cleaning (most of the time at the end of the year). I have had them for 10 years now.
Youll do great! Just make sure on the first day that you know how everyone is getting home (ask parents and write it down on meet the teacher night). Have a coloring packet for them and crayons. The first day is literally just unpacking school materials. ❤❤❤

I asked my school to purchase numbered dry erase erasers to help with the responsibility of kids who draw all over them. Also, love the idea of a bird feeder attached to the window and now want to search Amazon for one for my first graders. Which ones did your coworkers get? Suggestions which held up to Massachusetts winters?!

SO much to decide this upcoming year!
These new ones are from Aussie Pouch which I have used many, many years ago and they were great quality. The other ones were already used from Really Good Stuff and so many of them ripped last year, I was disappointed!
I would love more details about your soft start to the mornings. Do you have it structured or can kids just go and play with anything they would like for the time allowed? I have always wanted to give this a try.. And how long does it go for? Thanks!
We do all whole group learning on the rug! At our tables we are only doing independent work so they won't need to turn around for anything! We keep our whiteboards and Fundations magnet boards in our chair pockets for easy access!
I am surprised they don't have your air conditioning on. I teach in the south so our AC is never turned off lol. Yes, I would love a organizing video. My first day of school is tomorrow. I love all your products. I have your ELA and Math task cards ready to go as well as your morning work. I am pretty bummed we found out we aren't using Heggerty. HMH actually comes with a phonics plan and they want us following that. What scissors do you recommend for cutting things out?
My school is so old it doesn't have the infrastructure for A/C at all! We've only got fans!! Good luck tomorrow! When we pilot HMH, I will be using the structured literacy plans that it comes with so I am excited to see how that all goes! I got a three pack of scissors from Amazon last year - nothing fancy, but they work and are spread around my classroom (one at my desk, one at my small table, and another for my aide in the back of the room!). These are them here: amzn.to/4fo65Bq
Thanks for sharing - I had those whiteboard erasers too and they are rubbish. I ended up asking each child to bring in an old (clean) sock. It really works! I also would like to ask, where do you buy those book containers (the ones next to the Elephant and Piggy books)? Could you provide a link perhaps?
Yes! All the book bins are from Really Good Stuff. The smaller ones next to Elephant and Piggie are these: www.reallygoodstuff.com/group-colors-for-6-chapter-book-bins-6-bins/p/165167/ and the larger ones for picture books are these: www.reallygoodstuff.com/group-colors-for-6-picture-book-bins-with-dividers-6-bins/p/165160/
Last year I used some previously-owned ones from Really Good Stuff and sooo many of them ripped from the weight of things being inside. I was disappointed with the quality. These ones are from Aussie Pouch - a brand I had used back when I taught in Vegas about a decade ago and I know from first-hand experience that these hold up well! They're expensive, but worth it to me!
For most of the years I taught, we were not able to come in during the summer at all. We would have 1-2 days of classroom setup mixed with PD in the days right before kids came back. We almost always moved physical classrooms each year AND had to fully pack up our stuff (some of which would be missing when we returned.) It was a terrible way to start a school year. :(
That is SO hard and not fair at all!! We don't get paid to come in over summer, but I choose to do so for a few days because it eases the back to school mayhem of getting it all done. I am sorry for that added stress!!
Same! Summer camps are in many of our classrooms right up until we head back for in-service and then those days are so full of meetings and PD that we have little time to set up. We also don't get out class lists until a few days before school starts, so we can't label kid's stuff ahead of time. School starts the day after Labor Day, so sadly, most of us teachers end up spending the holiday laboring in our rooms.
That is an old lego table I had from PB Kids. My own boys used it when they were younger and it has adjustable legs so it can be a regular table or a floor table.
I should definitely do that! That's easy enough! They're from Aussie Pouch: www.aussiepouch.com/collections/school/products/classic-chair-pocket-black-canvas They aren't cheap and I did purchase them myself so I could have them for years to come!
Thank you!! The number blocks are a program called Math Stackers that I purchased myself a few years ago: www.mathstackers.com/ The calendar cards are free (I made them and laminated them last year): susan-jones-teaching.ck.page/5ce9731ecb The number posters were something I made for the SJT Math Club (I can try to get those as a free file soon). And the rocking chair was a purchase last year that I love! : amzn.to/3Sq3KMi
Excited for this video! I bought your task cards and wanted to ask the best way to preserve them. 😊 Do you print in reg paper or card stock? Also, can I laminate and then cut? I just bought a laminator instead of using the school one. That would be so much easier if it works! Another question is where is your small group organized from? I tried to find it but couldn’t. I have a smaller space this year and need something compact with organization. Thank you! Enjoy the rest of your summer. We go back this week!
I have Susan Task cards, best to preserve them is going to Michael's and they sell cases that come with plastic mini boxes 8 of them. I can't think of the exact name of it.
That was my summer project this year, printing, cutting and laminating her task cards! So excited to use them. Im just waiting for my school to replace the lamination role cuz i used it all 😮.
@@JillMRodriguez Yes. I bought some. ☺️Just wasn’t sure if I had to use cardstock or if I could laminate then cut. I only want to make them once if I can help it. How did you prepare them? I have the containers ready to go. I read that personal laminators will keep the seal even if you cut afterwards. Definitely not the case with our school laminator. Thanks for your help Jill!

We use felt squares for dry erase erasers. Super cheap- 1 square from Joanne’s makes 4 earsers.

I use felt squares as dry erase marker erasers. So easy!! Looking forward to another year in first grade with you!
I saw the coolest idea to use wrist sweatbands as erasers!
I cut felt sheets in fourths and use that as student dry erase board erasers. Cheap, easy and they work well.

Where did you get that white table? I would love one for kids a word work center.
That is an old lego table I had from PB Kids. My own boys used it when they were younger and it has adjustable legs so it can be a regular table or a floor table.
I use felt cut up in smaller rectangles for white board erasers! Where do you get your seat sacks?
I should definitely do that! That's easy enough! They're from Aussie Pouch: www.aussiepouch.com/collections/school/products/classic-chair-pocket-black-canvas
They aren't cheap and I did purchase them myself so I could have them for years to come!
Love this❤. Where did you get the number blocks and desk chair and calendar on your whiteboard and ABC and number posters and rocking chair ?? Thanks
Thank you!!
The number blocks are a program called Math Stackers that I purchased myself a few years ago: www.mathstackers.com/
The calendar cards are free (I made them and laminated them last year): susan-jones-teaching.ck.page/5ce9731ecb
The number posters were something I made for the SJT Math Club (I can try to get those as a free file soon).
And the rocking chair was a purchase last year that I love! : amzn.to/3Sq3KMi
Thank you for all this information! Where did you get the schedule on your whiteboard? Thanks for looking for the ABC and Number posters!
What brand are your chair pockets?
These are from Aussie Pouch!
I need a new number line to 20. Where is yours from? Thank you
Unfortunately that is only in the SJT Math Club right now - I will let you know if I make that into a freebie!
I teach 1st-2nd ASD. Do you have a list of your favorite books that you can share? Thank you.
Are your ten frame posters available for purchase?
@@tiffanya2872 I use cardstock and my own laminator. They held up great with my firsties last year. You are very welcome.
Can you please tell me where you got the 4 tray paper organizer that sits next to your tech tub? Thank you so much!
That is from Lakeshore here: www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/ca/p/JJ877
I use that to organize all my WIN materials!
