I'm hugely proud of this turtle aquarium and how it turned out. I think it's a great balance of aesthetics and providing the requirements for Timmy the turtle...the problem is, this makes me want to get more turtles....

I don't know which species that is, but most water turtle species sold as pets don't hibernate...

This video is going to make a lot if people want a turtle and similar tank... even me!
I do always admire the artistry with rocks and plants in these setups.
A heads up keep an eye on that temperature, I use that exact bulb with bearded dragons hitting 40°C in their basking spots. The rock will heat up and that spot might get hotter, and no other land area to move onto to bask in cooler temps.
Finally timmey is got his own mansion . Sometimes I wish I was one of your pets .especially Vladimir , cause he has such a big tank . Anyways good video.

New tank for Timmy looks great! Although he looks lost in such a huge tank- maybe he needs a friend.
Be careful with that bulb. First of all, a MVB bulb like this one should ALWAYS be mounted vertically to ensure the integrity of the bulb. Placing them at an angle greatly increases the risk of them breaking (which would be VERY bad for your turtle).
Secondly they produce a LOT of UVB, like desert levels. This means that for the correct amount for a musk turtle, you'd have to place it at least 50cm from the heat spot, if not more. Just watching the temperature of the rock isn't enough, you need to take the amount of UV light produced at specific distances into account as well.
Love little Timmy! I have a tiny musk named Bowser and let me tell you, every day I am convinced I've lost him - he hides so well! Every time you do a turtle scape it inspires me to redo my tank. First the pond style, now this. Keep it coming - love your scapes!
I'd say there is a little design flaw in this tank in that the only part above water is covered by the basking light, so he can't be on land and vary the temperature.
They don't really need to do that. They bask to warm up, and when hot enough they go back into the water where they can cool down. I am sure the light gets turned off at night too.. so he could come out at night and cool down also. This species of turtle rarely every basks anyway and technically does not need a dry land area.

@@brandon6659 It's a common musk turtle, sometimes called the "stinkpot".
Yeah thats understandable. As he said in the video though, Musk turtles like Timmy don't really use the basking spot. I know from experience as well, I had a Musk turtle for many years and in all the time I had him I only saw him use it maybe 10 times.

EVERY single time I hold my musk turtle he tries to bite me!! I'm very nice to him, but he's meen to me. If you want to get a turtle make sure he's nice and won't bite you, otherwise my turtle is sooo cute:)

I already have 3 happy, green, naturally planted tanks. I was inspired and did quite a bit of research. I have a 20 gallon long in storage and....im totally getting an easter musk turtle. A 20 long is plenty of space even for life! I'll make some modifications to the tank. Take the top off to create open air. This will work nicely.

it's not a true hibernation, it's called brumation (long term turt owner here) and it can be dangerous to let indoor reptiles brumate unless you know what you're doing. If you don't, it's absolutely 100% best to wake them up when they try to brumate indoors. So MD is absolutely correct to wake him up! I'm in "wakey-wakey" mode with my tort right now too, lol.

Fank goodness you found him! I think having free or four rocks in there make it nice and cohesive. I personally would have added something else for more hiding/sleeping places but I'm sure he is absolutely frilled to have a new tank!

I think that when it comes to habitat building, simplicity while still keeping in mind the needs of the animal is the most important. Her youve clearly given him space to move around thats also easy to clean while still providing a basking spot.

I've been waiting for this vid and it was all I hoped it would be. You should get some nightcrawlers from a pet store and feed some to Timmy, my musk turtle loves them, its good enrichment for them to fight live prey once in a while. I'm sure everyone would love a live feeding vid with Timmy too.
