I was the same when I first picked Yoshi in Tekken 7! I liked him but first I thought, damn no shit I'm gonna play him :D but... Now I love him, can't say I'm a master, but at least I feel comfortable playing with him. Weird and interesting character)
Thanks for the vid. I have mucked around without learning properly and I find that b22 really catches people out a lot, especially if I take an extra step to feint. I'm new to trying to learn fighting games properly, this vid helped a bunch to understand NSS
Dude knowing that 1 1 and down 1in no sword is so practical and is radical for yoshi. I always am glad to have more options from stances or ability to incorporate them in to combos better. Great guide.
Glad I found this! I main yoshi and this helped with making everything more fluid. Didnt know NSS was available to do outside of 2,2. D2,2 and ws4 stance change was all I needed lol Also plus frames on dragon and flea is great knowledge. TY sir!
Awesome breakdown. Coming from Tekken 7 Yoshi several years ago, this is extremely helpful. The changes to some of his moves were really throwing me off.
Ok I came into tekken (and also yoshi) thinking I was going to be overwhelmed by all the move and stances. But it’s turning out o the the gift that keeps on giving. I keep finding new moves that will be helpful to add to my play.
One thing i would like to add about kin 2, 1+2 In nss/heat, if the opponent blocks the fully charged second hit, it guard breaks and guarantees a b2, 2
One thing I've been loving to do is using 2, 2 as a combo extender, then ending with 3, 2, 1+2 to be able to get the heal and knockdown out of default stance. It's not optimal at all, but good for a little bit of health
you don't need to use 2, 2 you can do DF2 - D2,2,B(NSS) - DF1 - D2,2,2 - 3,2,1+2 you need to sidestep left after the flip from D2,2,2 for the third hit from 3,2,1+2 to connect with good execution you can also do DF2 - DASH FLASH - D2,2,B(NSS) - DF1, 2, 1 - 3,2,1+2
Yes, as far as I'm concerned, I love the new Yoshimitsu in some ways, in others it's annoying me: - uf1+3 (I preferred the old input uf1+2 as well as b,b1~) is currently no longer useful since it is no longer unblocable but they haven't added any properties to it. - qcf1 is also no longer unblockable and didn't get anything interesting in return, now it's a totally useless move. -dragongly 1 is no longer unstoppable and what he got in return is interesting, but it's too slow. it's safe but 4 is also safe, so it's just a risky mixup that is unlikely to be useful if not totally useless. - u3+4 is now +1 on block, in t7 i think it is +3. - in Indian stance and meditation Yoshimitsu no longer heals unless there is a portion of temporary damage. This prevents Yoshimitsu from having an overly passive game, which could also be a positive thing but as far as I'm concerned it isn't because even before you could have a less passive game now you can't, simply healing yourself from this stance was a way to attract the opponent to attack me forcefully now this is no longer there. - I like how they enhanced the use of the NSS non sword stance without taking away the importance of seeing the sword used by Yoshimitsu (who is called Yoshimitsu) - many of the new moves and attack strategies come from strings that end with a high blow, plus they push Yoshimitsu to play on certain patterns, such as maintaining pressure through the use of dragonfly (u1+2) currently it seems work but I would like to see in the long term when opponents will learn to crouch. - many combos go off axis, which requires lateral movements to be able to execute them correctly (annoying) - FC,DF1 has been weakened, but still manages to do a decent combo of around 56 damage. - I love the new sounds effects tell me your opinion on these points :)
They probably rushed the entire game and most characters are probably not even done. I bet you they will change a lot during patches in the upcoming months.
I agree with your points, Bandai has definitely led Yoshi in a more "Aggressive" direction than before, so many of his usual gimmicks or strategies aren't as strong compared to older Yoshis. QCF+1 is a big negative, there's no real use from what I can see. DGFS-1 (u1+2, 1) is also a weird change, but as the game gets older players adapt to crouching more and playing bolder. they may get caught by DGFS-1 and get the normal hit or counter-hit float. But for now, the change isn't really applicable when DGFS-4 is a better option IMO. The healing is hit or miss for me. The change can be negative but that's only with the fact that the Previous Yoshi didn't own any advancing strong pokes like 3,1, which alone is strong enough for Yoshi to build flow. So Yoshi mains backpedaled to force a reaction from the opponent with Meditation or Indian. However, this might be my bias as I do prefer a more aggressive style. u3+4 being +1 on block, can't say that I care much as the move was rarely used other than Oki set-ups, But that's just me. FC d/f1 is nerfed, but so are a lot of the other characters Snake Edge, so it's more of a universal nerf than solely a Yoshi nerf. Also, the weird combo axis change is definitely annoying, especially when certain combos don't have to be off-axis to do them and others you have to be off-axis to get the combo to work. In conclusion, Yoshi is slightly stronger than before. Less party & more swordsmen like. He feels a lot like Soulcalibur 6 Yoshi which for me is a win.
Not new to tekken but playing this one more seriously. Newb question though how can use heat engager moves but not trigger the heat activation? That 3>1 i think.(the string that goes into manji) always triggers heat and i dont want that EVERY time. Or am i missing something?
If you have heat available, heat engager will always activates heat on hit. The exception is if you hit the enemy while they're airborne eg. While they're jumping or while you're doing a combo on them.
Thank you, This helps a lot. I wish you could use some of those moves but not activate heat instead. Some pretty good pokes are also heat engagers to, so ill have to rethink my gameplan a bit.
I think he meant as the strategy is to go in with the mentality to counter hit with Default Flash, even with the nerf to it. So the overall gameplay with Flash hasn't changed.
It happens when you have Heat. Once your in Heat or ran out of Heat you can go into Manji from 3,1. You also do it even with heat while juggling the opp in a combo.
I’m a new tekken player but I’ve noticed when I go into practice mode yoshi has a weird move set where I can’t go into stances/do his combos, I practice in the combo tab but when I try to practice the moves he does are different how do I fix?
Sorry for not adding the inputs, there will be a complete guide that I'm currently working on, that'll give a full run-through for Yoshimitsu. give me some time and I'll provide😊
well, they've removed his wall bounce so not really sure why you'd want me to talk about that? They've essentially removed wall bounces universally from characters unless you meant stage-specific wall bounce interactions? His f,4 being his armor move imo is good. his f,3+4 being armored before was ok, but seeing that the move was 21+ frames on start-up compared to 18 frames I feel it's slightly better than f,3+4
