  • Fooling around with the 3Dsets rancher and some rock features on the property including a creekbed and a rock wall. Its amazing what you can do nowadays with a 3D Printed RC Crawler.

    And I wish I would have found your site a few weeks ago!!! I spent so much time and money piecing all of the hardware together for my Model 1, I could have just purchased your kit and been set!!!

    What size of tires are you using? Will 120mm diameter tire be too big?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      BOM calls for 1.9", or 108mm. Not sure if 120s will cause issues. I'd suggest asking in the 3dsets Facebook group for anyone whose run them before buying any.

    I am having a hard time fitting the yokes on some of the shafts for the axle parts as well as getting the splined drive shaft to fit into the hollowed out drive shaft. If I sand it to get it to fit, will it cause problems if it is tight, or does that need to move in and out freely for the suspension to work properly? Am I better of reprinting or sanding/filing?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, if it were me I'd give a small bit of sanding a try first to get them together. Once you get them together the plastic should loosen up a bit on its own. If you're worried about the drive shafts you could add a bit of lube in there. The movement they require is only very small once assembled. I think that's a better route than reprinting. You can always reprint later if it doesn't work.

      @@rcprinter My concern is that it is going to be A LOT of sanding it seems. Its pretty darn tight. If I did reprint, I would likely do the axles, cardan yokes, drift shafts, and maybe the wheels? I am really going to have to just try and see what I can get together and go from there...

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sirbeck58 yeah, it shouldn't be that tight so there might have been something wrong with you settings. 100% infill does sometimes make things a bit bulkier but I didn't have any serious issues with assembly. Yokes and drive shafts should be a pretty quick reprint if you need to. Did your bearings fit ok? Odd for them to fit but not the cardan yokes. You might need to underextrude a bit on these next time. The first time I printed mine I didn't read properly and I didn't print with 100% infill on those parts and they broke pretty quick so you're not the only one needing reprints!

    • @sirbeck58
      @sirbeck58 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rcprinter Yeah, and that could have very well been my issue. I did test prints on stuff but for speed I did less infill than 100% which makes sense why when I did 100, it was tighter than my test prints. My bearings were pretty tight. Most went on with my fingers, ALL my gears required a little hammering with a socket, and few bearings also required some light tapping with a socket. The socket was to have even pressure on the entire circumference but not damage the shaft itself. Honestly, probably too tight, but I got it together, so I see that as successful...

      I had the exact same issue with my rancher. Lower your slicing tolerance and that will fix it. Changed my whole experience

    How does it take crashes and hits?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can't take as much damage as a store bought hobby grade but the parts are almost free when they do break which is nice. The 3d printed pla isn't as strong as injected molded plastic. The truck isn't geared that fast so you're not crashing at high speed which helps. I've never smashed it with another car at speed so can't say how it takes a hit but it seems to do ok on small rolls. If you drop it from a height you can expect breakage. You can't beat on it.

    hi , i am from india and i am a fan of your content , i am planing to make a simple 3d printed rc car , can you please make a video on "should you build the GAMMA - a printed in place rc car" , you will find the files and the video of that car on a channel named " under engineered"?

    • @rcprinter

      Hey, thanks for the support! I'll try to find some time to take a look at your project but I can't promise anything at this point as my list of projects to build gets longer and longer.

    Is it worth money?
    I checked that it would cost almost $250 for me? (Excluding 3d printer) or buy another rc. And please help me what are better "crawlers" or "bashers". I know its my choice but I want to know what do you like more "personally".

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you only have $250 to spend on ONE RC car and you want something fun and reliable out of the box then no this one wouldn't be worth it. If you're looking for a great budget rc that you'll be super happy with then check out wltoys. I have a few of them including 144001, 124019, 12427, K969, K989.... they're all good IMHO. I haven't tried their trucks yet but I'd bet they're decent. They mostly come RTR with chargers and a couple of batteries and they're under your budget. Best place to look em up is banggood but you can find em on amazon and too. You can also sometimes find 3d printable mods on thingiverse if you want to customize them.
      This one is great for people who are into RC and like to build models and will get a lot of joy out of the process as well as tinkering with the end product.
