      You're right. And yes, they don't open completely. But it is only roughly 5-7cm sticking out when they're fully lowered. Still nice given the fact that all doors are frameless and look great when opened with the widows down.

    1:30 you complain about the magnet but I love it. Had a rental car (VW Caddy) recently and the hook was snapped off. Can’t happen with this design. And it’s way easier and less distracting to put it back into place.

    • @bjornnyland

      After using Model Y for a while, I can confirm that Tesla has improved this. But in Model 3 MIC SR+, the magnets would detatch all the time.

  • @KineticEV
    @KineticEV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm excited watching your review because I was leaning towards the Model 3 and it's still on my short list but being 6 feet 2 inches tall and getting older I'm leaning more towards the Model Y. This review just confirms to me that it would be a good fit for me and the wife when we want to take road trips.
    Second on my list is the Nissan Ariya. Just by the looks it seems like another good fit as a crossover. Then third and fourth on the list is the EV6 and Ioniq 5 in no particular order.
    Overall I like that center screen in the Tesla over the others above. It's a hard decision because there justca few other perks you get with Tesla over the others but I think I got a decent list so far.
    Who knows. By the time I'm ready to buy there be a couple more good competitors on the market. Here in the US it's so different. We don't have all the various brands like in China or Europe. I'm so jealous 😀

    Just want to say thank you for measuring the back in so many dimensions, its what i've been wanting from a Model Y review as actually i have some specific ideas in mind for stuff to transport when one day I get one. If you get a chance next time could you possibly measure the vertical distance between the bottom of the well in the back to the top of the closed boot lid? probably to the glass I guess. I want to know if a paramotor without the cage will fit in there standing up! I'm afraid that it might be too tall though and hit the glass. Tusen takk!

      He explains this in many other videos. When you exit the car you don't want to go around your car to plug in/out the cable. If you park along the street, I agree. But if you have a driveway or do fast-charging or parking straight (with the nose pointing towards the street) it is better to have it in the same position as where you exit the vehicle.

      There’s no real argument either way, it’s just a matter of preference.
      Bjorn is extremely knowledgeable and smart, but he’s not necessarily right about everything 😊
      Take his rant on kWh/100km for example, wH/km doesn’t make a lick of sense from the standpoint of every other interaction we have with the capabilities of an ev. Drivetrain? kw. Battery? kWh. Paying for electricity? kWh.
      Why would you then want to measure consumption in a different unit?

    Excellent review... its crazy that you have to say that last comments "... if you don't mind using a Tesla", but it is so true. Apparently there are people out there who hate Tesla so much that even though it may be the best choice for them for their next car they cannot buy a Tesla. Wake up people, don't listen to the media and advertisements around the internet. Go test drive the cars yourself and make up your own opinions.

      @@AllanSustainabilityFan I find it really difficult that some think that backward-looking and simple-minded comparisons can tell us something about the future. A smartphone is not particularly challenging in terms of design - especially since you can put it in your pocket if you don't want to see it.

    • @AllanSustainabilityFan
      @AllanSustainabilityFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@outdoorolli5754 See this is the same mentality. People said the same thing with those comparisons: Why is the iPhone a simplified screen without an elegant (today: clutter/archaic) keyboard like the Blackberry?
      And then the App store showed us why it's better to get away from that old fashioned design mindset. Some folks still swear by those fancy keys, yet miss the big picture of how much more a smartphone today is than just a rigid talking/texting device.
      The same is happening with cars. It is the reason why VW projected to sell >80k ID.4s in China, but the reality hit them hard and they only sold 1200 last month, as the Chinese buyers were tech savvy and not as brand loyal as older conservative EU customers; calling those kinda cars "old fashioned" and "technologically primitive" by comparison to products not only from Tesla, but Nio and XPeng, for example.
      It is the future: You cannot survive, in a global market, on just selling old designs to aging "brand" customers, you have to evolve and learn what the new trend in the market is, and then build products that fit with modern times.

      Again, I'm not asking you to believe me. I'm no expert. Watch Sandy Munro's rant about the NHTSA. He IS an expert. Auto Pilot clearly says you need to be ready to take control of the vehicle. It's not fully autonomous driving. That's why I say driver error/inattentiveness causes most accidents, not just Tesla related ones. If you don't like the car, don't buy it. Simple as that. There are many other vehicle options. But make sure you check their accident records too. And to add to your last comment, I'm no Tesla fanboy. I see their faults as well as their benefits. There are many great EVs out there. You are very clearly biased against Tesla. Fair enough. But be honest about it, rather than coming here to impart some of your "wisdom".

    Re the handles above the doors: I don't know how other brands are doing it, but with Tesla it's just that there are airbags hidden above the doors. When they deploy, they just push aside the liner. A handle would probably make it harder to design it like that...

    • @VinDieselS70
      @VinDieselS70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've got a 2006 Volvo V50 and it has side impact curtains as standard plus grab handles for all four doors. If I remember right the handles are possibly above the side airbags so if and when they deploy, the bags inflate below the handles downwards.

    I’ll be interested to see if your experience is the same as mine with Model Y. Model Y LR AWD on 19” Gemini wheels is about 18-25% less efficient than the Model 3 LR AWD on the 18” aero wheels with MXM4 tires.
    Due to that extra energy consumption, I wish Tesla had boosted the Y’s pack size and also offered it in two different versions, one with the coupe-suv profile the current Y has that competes more against upcoming ID.5, BMW X4, GLC Coupe, etc. and a regular crossover model that competes more directly against the ID.4, X3, GLC, Q4 e-tron, etc. The sloping roofline of the existing Model Y design seriously reduces the storage capacity and makes the optional third row seats insanely ridiculous.

    • @peterhelm522

      The profile is important for aerodynamics. Tesla will never make two versions, but yes, the battery pack woulde be better with 10 kWh more.

      @@peterhelm522 They could achieve very close to the same coefficient of drag (maybe within .01 or 0.02 at the most) with a normal model. If you look at Audi e-tron and Q4 e-tron the differences between the normal models and the “sportback” models is only 0.02 (.28 vs. .26). The difference is very little. I’d take a theoretical 5-10 mile range hit for a much better looking car and usable luggage compartment.
