Useful stuff for many IOM class sailors, thanks for the upload Bill.

Very informative but will this work on a Flysky tx and rx. Which switch would you use.

Is your magnetic encoder absolute or incremental?
Once the winch servo is set up, does it remember the end points if you accidentally turn the drum on the winch when the servo is switched on, or does it have to be calibrated again?

Brilliant and very informative video. How do you set up the throttle lever to be central and act as a winch control please? I also have a Spektrum but can't see how you do it.

The Spektrum transmitter is set with the throttle stick is full up and down. It does not centre. So there is no need to alter the present arrangement

Ah, now I understand and it's all fallen into place . Thank you so much for your help. Mike.@@billgreen2959

Hi! I have a Frsky X8R Receiver and a Taranis QX7 Transmitter. I connected the Signal-lead of the winch to one of the Signal-Channels of the Receiver. As I have that connected I am getting the Telephone-Ring. The Problem is that none of the switches on the Taranis has the Gear-Switch function that yours has. I am not getting the Telephone sound again when I activate any other button on the Taranis. Any Idea, what to do? All the best!

Great and useful video. How do you measure the travel length with the winch out of the boat or do you know the drum rotation count?

Nick Thanks for the question I’m going to put something up on Facebook later so it can be shared

Hi Nick, when I set the winces up here, I do them in the boat as I like to do that first setup not for fully sheeted in and out, but as "mechanical end points" for the sheets so the metal ring (or whatever you join the sheets to) will not ever pull past the blocks/sheet entry and exit on the hull.
Then I use the end point adjustment on the transmitter to bring the desired sheet travel to the length that you desire for the particular boat setup

Hi Nick, Kyle’s approach is spot on. What you are doing is applying the winches facilities with the transmitters capabilities and getting the best out of both specific to your needs.

Set up can be done outside of the boat but it’s better done in as you can set the length specific to your boat. Most commercial IOM yachts use a sheeting length of 270mm. A 32mm RMG drum has 100mm per rotation which equates to 2.7 turns. Just put a mark on the drum you can then see how far to take it. In setup mode the RMG winch moves slowly to allow you to set it up accurately.
