I owe you a beer. Looks like you may have saved me about $170. I was getting ready to pull the pin on my beloved 35 year old 1581. I was sure the slot on the retaining screw was stripped out. Couldn't tighten the blade completely, it was working its way out and cutting at an angle. Didn't know you could pull the screw and I certainly didn't know replacement screws were still available.
Took a bit to remove the screw but when I got it out I found the slot on the screw head had filled up with debris from over the years, the slot is just fine. I've got another piece of Grinch yard ornament to cut out for my daughter and it will be a great joy to get to do that with my companion of so many years. Thanks so much for your video.

Glad I could help and it's kind of a long thin screwdriver so it is lucky you had one around!

Thanks for the information I wasn't too sure if that set screw comes out... A friend gave me this jigsaw and I couldn't figure out how the blade changed it was just perplexing..,. Called my friend how do you change the blade... A Long screwdriver is used to change the blade, but I couldn't figure it out....I tried putting a screwdriver in there, with no success I couldn't find the the slot in the on the set screw and wasn't too sure if I was doing things right or wrong ,it just didn't seem to work, but after his information I said okay ...but, it didn't seem to work.... but he says he's done it a thousand times and he's coming over ....so he showed me.... sure enough it worked , great saw.... Good video , great to know that the set screw comes out ....possibly l will replace it if I have any trouble ... Because it just doesn't seem to work perfectly ...but you know it's just my first time changing a blade....? shouldn't be so difficult... but.... Thanks for the video and the information 😁

It is really not the best system especially needing a special screwdriver!

Just had the blade screw come out of my Bosch jigsaw which I've had and used a lot for decades.
The screw is lost. Have trawled for it with a magnet in the sawdust but no luck. I manufacture machinery so have many sizes and types of screws to hand. Could you advise please what thread it is and I can probably modify one to suit.
Thanks for the video. Clear and concise.

I found a 1581VS in the back of one of my friends's sheds and have not been able to find anywhere or any information or user manuals on this particular jigsaw because I want to change the blade on it thank you so much for posting this.
Btw, Did you know that this particular model was made in a couple different countries? And from the research I did if you happen to have the one made in Switzerland it's worth more than double of the ones made in other countries.

Loosen the screw and hold the blade sideways, then insert. Turn it straight and tighten the screw

Could you tell me the process of putting in a new blade. I want to use my jigsaw the other day and it had been several years since I used it. And apparently I forgot the process, and I don't know where my manual has disappeared to. It would be much appreciated if you can help or if you have a manual post a copy of that page showing how to install and remove a new blade. Thank you!

You need a long thin flat screw driver. Put it in the hole on the top and turn until you feel it catch the screw. Once it is loose you can turn the blade 90 degrees and pull the blade out. Do the reverse to put the blade in

Have that same model ... 36 years old! As you know, the notched bushing into which the blade is inserted must be turned 90 degrees sideways (after loosening the screw as in your video) in order to remove the blade. Then it is rotated to the blade teeth forward position before retightening the screw. Well, mine got stuck in the "remove" position & won't rotate back. Do you think the problem is the retention screw that you replaced? Thanks.

It could be the screw, but it is probably the tube that it is in. But you can buy that and replace too.

Thanks for the great videos. I'm trying to repair my old Bosch jigsaw. 1582VS. Need the screw you are changing out but I can't find it. You mentioned it was WH004, but I can't find the part with that number. would you have a link to this screw?

Nice video. What size it the screw that hold the blade in. Maybe I could find it at the local hardware store if it isn't too odd.

Where did you find that locking screw? Ereplacement Parts doesn't show it in the schematic diagram of the 1582VS (the barrel grip version).

How do you get this retaining screw out if you can't get purchase on it with your screwdriver?

I think you can just replace the entire rod. Here's one I found with a quick search: www.ereplacementparts.com/lifting-rod-p-47990.html.
