As someone who used to go to a lot of games at Old Trafford when Roy Keane played it’s very hard to capture what a great player he was in a video. People don’t appreciate as much the sheer quality of his passing, control and dictation of a game. It was always rousing when he put in a few strong tackles in a game, he really had it all. So called defensive midfielders today should watch as much of Roy Keane as possible and realise what a real midfielder can do
Roy Keane has tremendous respect for Clough, who was a genius manager and a colourful character. Clough once punched Roy in the changing rooms after he gave a sloppy back pass which led to a goal. Clough also nurtured him as a young man when he first arrived in England. According to Keane, Fergie shafted him at the end of his time at United. Keane will never forgive him for that. I’m not sure what their relationship was like earlier on in their time together but Roy doesn’t have to like you as a person to respect you. Whether or not they ever got on, I’m not sure. The respect was there but is now lost.
SAF was wrong on the Roy Keane situation, many times before that interview Roy Keane had said a lot of things which could've got him into real trouble but Fergie at that time would never have thrown him under the bus cause he knew Prime Roy Keane in his side even though he's a bit annoying for a manager but what he delivers on the pitch will always decide the fate of the game but what happened later was Keane got old and had many injuries and Fergie just wanted to get rid of him cause he was not elite or to be fair he was elite but not world class anymore. The only time Fergie was wrong and Roy is justified enough to not forgive him anytime soon but the mutual respect between them is, was and will always be there.
