I love that this 17 year old had the balls to refuse a direct team order to hand over his position to his teammate because he felt like he earned that spot. What wasn't mentioned here is that the Torro Rosso team principal Franz Tost later acknowledged that they were wrong for asking Max to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if that actually aided him in getting a seat in RB. I think Helmut Marko loves people with a tough mentality like that.
Anyway, good on RB taking a gamble on a 17 year old. They took a lot of shit for it, but it definitely paid off! I wonder if Mercedes are still hitting themselves on the head for not making a better offer😅

@@AmelieBodenstein Hi in 2024! Toto has been properly obsessed with Max and the idea of getting him to Merc😅 Yeah I'm pretty sure he also confirmed in an interview recently (probably about Antonelli) that he regrets not going for Max harder back then. It will be interesting to see how everything will play out in the next 1-2 years.

Max went from winning his karting championship > skipping F4 (uncommon) > did F3 and stepped into a F1 car for the first time > skipped F2 (extremely uncommon and not something that was considered possible at the time) and straight into full-time F1 in the span of a little more than a year.

This rule is ridiculous because Max showed to everyone that a 17 year old boy can beat anyone. Imagine RedBull when he finished ahead of Daniel at some point😂 I mean DAMN

Max Verstappen simply is that one supertalent that only comes around once in every decade. On top of that now 7 years after starting in F1 he is a Worldchampion at the age of 24. Oh and before I forget he won his first race ( Barcelona) at the age of 18.

Its actually very rare to see an f1 driver that hasnt started with karting. I dont even think there is one on the grid right now

I think that his point is that its rare to see someone competing in karts getting into an actual f1 car so early in his career

What it the excuse for any other young person? Not having a dad and mom with racing pedigree, and not having the money, network and a dad with F1 experience. I admire Max and his talents, so don’t get me wrong. But we need to be honest he had what almost no other person on this planet had. Jos Verstappen obviously could give him the experience and guidance to get him into racing and work his way up. And don’t forget his very talented racing mom.
So he had the genetics of a thrill seeker, combined with the resources to start racing. Plus he was introduced to racing at an early age, while many children don’t get a change to experience racing. I therefore feel that Hamilton’s story is really special, considering his background and his amazing father. (This remark will probably get me a lot of hate here, but this is what I feel) But Verstappen still has an amazing story that still hasn’t ended yet. I feel he will become one of the top 10 drivers of all time, if his career continues like this.
