François de la serre was probably the only grandmaster who wasn't power hungry

He was kind of corrupt, in the sense that he wanted benefit from his position, but yes, better than power-crazed templars. At least he had honor and sense of duty. That's why he did not hesitate to take in his enemy's son. Humane to the end.

Rogue showed us that the Templars aren’t always the bad guys, in that sometimes the Assassins are in fact in the wrong in what attempt to accomplish and how they plan to do so, as well as what they’re willing to risk. Therefore it’s now up to the Templars to be the ones to save the world. Together with Unity, the two showed that the Assassins or Templars can both be bad people under bad leadership, but they can both also be good people under the right leadership. This is part of what Unity gets its name from.

Monsieur De La Serre made me re-think all Templars. Up to this point, all Templars have been out for self, and how the can enslave others. Monsieur De La Serre, made a truce with the Assassins and showed that under the right leaders, assassins and Templars can work together.. Hints: Elise and Arno

Watching De La Serre and Mirabeau conversing peacefully was refreshing after so many AC games.
2 wise and rational men, 2 grandmasters who instead of fighting over their differences and centuries of bad blood, converse together on what they share in common.
The greater good, the wellbeing of the people.
The first to truly see the futility of their long and pointless conflict.

Any man who thinks anyone from this broken aristocracy could rule properly, not to mention rejects someone like the King of the Beggars for no reason but their social status, is no wise man.
The fact the orders could only negotiate when these two failures rose to power shows to me there was no hope for the so called moderate factions. As a Templar, truth be told, I would prefer to take my chances with Bellec. He's a fanatic, but every fanatic can be convinced with the right price, so goes the saying. Besides, the order used fanatics in the past, so it knows how to be appealing.

Grandmaster De La Serra is probably the only great reasonably Grand Master Templar through history because he did know how to make truce's very well.

Also, he tried to start a peaceful French Revolution with Mirabeau. This is hinted at how De La Serre questions the outcome of the revolution (Should France be ruled by another king or by a council of men). Shay helped the French Templars organize the revolution ever since 1776. The Revolution started in 1789 but De La Serre was overthrown by Germain who was both idiotic and violent (his revolution did not make France better). Germain is a hypocrite as De La Serre actually was fine with France being run by a council of men. This can suggest he had a change of heart regarding his firm belief that France should always be ruled by a monarch. De La Serre even wanted to make a truce with the Assassins during the French Revolution to prevent any conflicts that might make the Revolution violent or bad.

I honestly think this was the best AC ever. The cinematics were great. The storytelling was great, the game dynamics were good. The environments and actors were good too. After Unity AC turned into piece of garbage.

Yeah, Germain was a more practical and straightforward grandmaster. De La Serre, while being good natured as shown with Arno, was too haughty and stubbornly refused to admit when things needed to change
