    YES!! Choosing "Linear" in FOV options instead of Medium will get you an even less fisheye look (that's why GoPro made that option) but I prefer medium for some reason.. It's like a happy middle ground ha. DEF should have mentioned this in the video tho my b :) Play around with it and see what you like best!! ✨

      Sara Dietschy So medium, implies middle ground, Haha. Sorry for the poor humour.

      Sara Dietschy you don't need to use the rear screen, hold down both buttons and all your settings can be changed via the front screen!

      I was searching the web no lie last week looking for a good video on best settings for the hero 5 and bam my girl sara posts a video that gives the best straight forward answer 3 days later. Appreciate it. Knucks!

    Get tips Sarah! I shoot a lot in 30fps so I can conform to 24fps, that subtle slowing often works really well in POV action shots for me. If it's not action stuff I will then almost always use 24fps like you said.

    • @Levi_Allen
      @Levi_Allen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's also great news about the improved battery life! That's my biggest struggle when shooting with gopros, especially when out in the water or something like that. Good to hear you're getting almost a day out of your Hero5.

      Should use in 60fps so that you have the option of slow mo if needed in post. Doesn't have any effect because your sequence in post is set to 24 or 30 or whatever it's set to anyways

    • @IrisBonetPhoto
      @IrisBonetPhoto 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      shoutoutJT i do the same.. always 60fps just in case I want to do a slow mo but anything I don't put in slomo i change to 24 fps

    I've been using my Hero 5 Black a lot while out snowboarding. Obviously it's cold and golf cold fingers on a cold touch screen is about as effective as wet ones! However, it is capturing some great footage and while it's not perfect I'm very pleased with what I can do with it.

    We used our new GoPro on a recent trip to Mexico and got some amazing footage while scuba diving! Now we just have to put the video together...!

  • @TheMattd546
    @TheMattd546 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can still change settings through the mode button. You can go to video, photo, time laps and so on. Then you can do voice command which is pretty easy. ALSO if you tap the mode button and the shutter "red'' button almost together you get more setting in the front like what fps you want. So you CAN do everything you want with just the mode button and not using the lcd screen.

  • @ExploringAlabama
    @ExploringAlabama 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, do you lose video quality with a lower FPS? Sara, can you hear me?

  • @btfleming
    @btfleming 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    PRO TIP: hold the side mode button and click the shutter button and it will get you back into the old school menu! A LOT easier to navigate while it is wet.

  • @paperipixels8541
    @paperipixels8541 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you click simultaneously the mode button and the shutter button, you change from the touchscreen to the frontscreen, so you can controll the camera when using gloves, underwater or with wet fingers.

  • @Saltycures
    @Saltycures 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I would add, and this is coming from multiple first hand experiences of other surf photographers I know, if you're going to be in the water and sand is going to be regularly around the camera, I would still recommend getting the dive housing. More than a few people have reported their battery doors leaking due to sand getting trapped in the seals. No bueno!

  • @Saltycures
    @Saltycures 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, you can still navigate most of the menu options by button! Just push both buttons at the same time (the top button just slightly before) and the menu will pop up on the front screen like the old ones (but better).

  • @noel4854
    @noel4854 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want to get around using the touchscreen hold the Mode button then press the Shutter button. Now you can use the buttons to change the settings using the front display.
    It is awesome when in wet conditions.

  • @ryanchapman2571
    @ryanchapman2571 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't know if some already said this but you can navigate the menu by pushing the mode and capture button. The menu will then display on the front to navigate. Great for wet hands.

  • @KevinPrudhomme
    @KevinPrudhomme 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Sara, You can navigate in the menu using the top and side button without using the touchscreen like you used to do with the older GoPros wich you like.
    All you have to do is press the TOP & the SIDE button at the same time while the camera is ON!
    TOP Button = Select
    SIDE Button = Change
    I hope that helps, thank you have a great day!
