Years later, when I asked my parents why we never went there anymore, my dad explained the place got shut down because someone spotted a cat's head in the kitchen. To this, my grandmother explained, "Other Asian cultures consider it a delicacy. Let's not judge others." Even at the tender age of 11 of 12, I wanted to believe that her point was about culture differences - e.g. how in our Western world, we have cuisine that other parts of the world find offputting. In reality, I think that grandmother was just racist against Chinese people. (FWIW, I think the Japanese-Chinese divide was pretty strong for her generation of Asian-Americans.)
