The flipped tree thing (example at 17:05) is a native hunting trick. They pull the tree up, hack most of the limbs, flip it and plant it back with the root base as a platform, either for lookouts or as a hunting tower, usually near a river.
Leave a hunter with a harpoon, he gets a whale and ties the harpoon off til the water drains, calls the tribe, amd they feast.
My camp actually had a few that had been turned into a lookout tower and a swingset.
I can imagine the natives at the time hearing these stories and laughing at the stupid white people who guess sasquatch before they guess locals.

Native of Alaska here... you know Kris, you were right about there being more than one sasquatch/big foot here. I've heard stories of sightings where I grew up in the southwest region of Alaska, outside villages nearby Bethel. There's so many more legends and folklore that each region of Alaska holds and tells to each new generation.

I love researching cryptids. A lot of animals we now know of used to be considered cryptids including the Komodo dragon, the giant squid and the platypus.

For those of you wondering, pretty sure Kris is talking about the town Portlock. There is a documentary series on the Discovery channel of descendants from that village who had to leave called “Alaskan Killer Bigfoot”. They basically just go back to the town and do a little investigation and it’s pretty interesting! Update: She did actually mention the name of the town “PortLock” I just didn’t watch the video all the way through.

When I was a kid we went camping and had to go up the hill (in our car) to make a call (because I'm 37 and cell reception sucked back then) due to being in a valley of sorts and surrounded by trees that blocked reception. So we go up the hill and something HUGE and hairy runs in front of our car and hightails it into the trees (it was night time, for reference, so this made it scarier). It wasn't a bear because it was UPRIGHT (and it was thinner than a bear)! I've always been a skeptic when it comes to Bigfoot and most cryptids, but we couldn't explain it. And NONE of us were willing to get out of the car lol. My step-dad was like 'we're going to make the call in the car and head back to camp'. We slept in the motor home because we were too scared to sleep in the tent after that. I don't know if what we saw was an actual Bigfoot but I've never forgotten that or how scared we were of it, and I learned later that the National Forest in which the campground is located had the second most Bigfoot sightings in the entire state of California at that time (Stanislaus National Forest, if you want to know which one).

Idk why, but every time I see a story about Alaska I get really hyped and happy (I live in Alaska). Also, Kenai is pronounced Keen-eye. I also know one of the main guys in "Alaskan Killer Bigfoot"- I watch over his daughter in one of the daycares I work at. It's a small world.

I get so excited for these true crime videos from Kris. I watch MrBallen and others but love that Kris adds a bit of comedy because like her I have to laugh or I’d be crying.
I know it's not about a serial killer or cult or cryptid, but the Sylvia Likens case is a heartbreaking example of the atrocities people will commit when they have the approval of a perceived authority figure. I think you'd dig it. But. Like. In a sad way.
The intro somehow always makes me loosen up a bit, smile and think, “Ay yo, that’s a beautiful compliment, thankyou Kris”, only to be bamboozled and later be met with, “They just like to eat you alive, basically 😊” the way you tell these stories though, is just … you’re so amazing dude, thankyou for posting and taking the time to make something for us. I live in Kenai. Was raised here too. It's pretty chill, and there are some pretty creepy stories about this state. Used to camp out at Crescent Lake and there was a cabin there you can rent with a notebook on the table inside where you can write down your experience, and a lot of people will write horror stories about their experiences. It's awesome.

There's a podcast story about it and I believe a TV series, although however i'm 90% sure it's fiction it could be a cool story to talk about! It's called Limetown and it's pretty interesting 💗

Bears are known to eat people. That's why the bear attack survival rhyme goes “Black fight back, brown get down, white good night.” So, yeah, saying, "the bears won’t hurt you," is just false.
@@Rednecknerd_rob9634depends on were you are, they will hurt you if they are hungry and grumpy or a polar bear. Look up the difference between brown bears and grizzly bears, they are the same species but they live in different areas and have different attitudes. Normally a black bear or a brown bear would not hurt you unless provoked, which could just be you startling it so just be careful. UNLESS they have cubs, stay the fvck away from any bears with cubs obviously. Idk what it’s like in Canada this is based off of Alaska. So they prolly won’t look for you and will leave you alone if you are carful about keeping an eye out for them

Also when you said they like to torture you, its most likely due to a mother bear protecting her cub. This is because she wants to inflict pain and show the potential threat that she is not messing around and for that threat to leave now. (Remember this is a case of her trying to hurt you but not eat you). Also we are not a natural food for bears so dw
The kenai peninsula is gorgeous and massive. One thing to bear in mind is that there are tons on grizzly bears, which are aggressive, black bears that are generally chill and Kodiak bears (which grow to 10 feet from hind legs to head) in the area. A Kodiak bear's hind feet are usually 16 inches or less, but there have been exceptions.

I'm from Alaska. I've hunted and fished in that area. Even camped out in one of the abandoned buildings.
Dogs acted up occasionally, but no more so than when a bear was around... which was my assumption.
I never saw any odd foot-prints, never had big rocks thrown at me.
But then again, I do think there might be something odd in the area. What it might be, I wouldn't guess; but a bunch of tough Alaskans don't just take off for no reason. We always carry a fire-arm up there, and really aren't easily scared. We deal with lots of wild-life, as well as rough terrain and weather. Alaska isn't for the weak, whether of mind, spirit or body.
Some of the most tense times in my life were in the Bob Marshall Wilderness area in northwest Montana. I was working for the forest service thinning trees, and flagging off acres for the saw crews. In the spring, you are hiking alone in dense virgin forest, every twig snap or rustling in the underbrush is intense. I saw plenty of bears but didn't have a close encounter.
