    It was pure pleasure and enjoyment to go 600km using only hand throttle.

    The fact that you're an Asmongold fan and you ride an E-bike makes me love this channel even more. Cheers from a guy who is starting to get into E-bikes.

    Alright, I got done converting my recumbent to direct drive just like yours. Much better drive than the bbso2, really happy with it. My bbso2 will move to my normal bike.
    I have a question still, do you use a torque arm for your hub motor? I wonder what the necessity is given I will limit motor power to 700 watts. Is the torque ok on your dropouts?

    • @DatEbikeGuy
      @DatEbikeGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. From 350W on torque arm is recommended. Yes my bike has a torque arm and both sides. It's probably overkill. And I also have a motor. limited to 750W. Beacause it peaked sometimes 2000W....
      Some say that if you have a steel frame then a torque arm is not needed. Torque arm is inexpensive and helps prevent problems, I definitely recommend it.

      @@DatEbikeGuy What I don’t understand with these torque arms is the wiggleroom they have in angular rotation. Given that wiggleroom the torque arm under normal condition transfers no mechanical force right? Only once the shaft rotates sufficiently past the torque arm wiggleroom will it transfer force, but by the time it has rotated that far it would already have bent the dropouts. So is their use only to prevent catastrophic failure? Or does it actually carry load during normal use?

      @DatEbikeGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Felix3301 Is required to resist the torque of the hub motor. If you have a steel frame, 750W is a great limit without the use of a torque arm. For example, if you use generating braking, it's even worse.
      Short answer "better to be safe than sorry".

      @@DatEbikeGuy Alright, I ordered one. Going to install it this friday. But still I am wondering whether I need to custom order my own torque arms to have a very tight fit around the axle. I really don't see how torque is coupled with that wiggle room. I will be using regen, have it limited to 10A of braking current. How about you, do you use regen? Also is one torque arm enough? I don't see how I can mount a second one on the derailleur side

    • @DatEbikeGuy
      @DatEbikeGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Felix3301 My recumbent bike has a torque arm made by me on one side. And the other side bought, but slightly modified. Because the frames are different and you never know if it will sit right away or need to be modified.
      One torque arm for sure. I use two torque arm on my recumbent because the motor axle is small in diameter.
      My commuting E-bike has a much larger motor axle and there I use only one torque arm.
      In the case of generating braking, the motor axle also starts to twist in the opposite direction, which means that the bolts should be checked at intervals. Currently I am not using generating braking.
      It would be interesting to see a picture or video of your bike in the future :)

    Could you explain why you swear by a steel frame bike? I converted an aluminum recumbent 2 wheeler into an ebike same as you? Is aluminum dangerous for this? Also which is more efficient? BBs02 or this direct drive hub motor?

    • @DatEbikeGuy
      @DatEbikeGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey.
      My annual mileage is huge and I carry a heavy battery and equipment, steel not fatigue as much, and longer life.
      When something happens it is easy to weld. If the household has a welding machine, it can be repaired immediately. Aluminum is not bad or dangerous... BTW I have an everyday commuting bike with an aluminum frame :) so I dont hate it
      If you drive only with hand throttle then direct drive is better, cheaper. maintance free "no competition"
      If you use PAS assist, both motors are OK.

      @@DatEbikeGuy I bought the same bike (recumbent) one week after the first video you posted. For long rides which motor you like more the bafang or the hub? I am planing also 3 kw battery but I don't know about the motor because the rims are 24 inch

    • @DatEbikeGuy
      @DatEbikeGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rosenstamenkov7539 It's a pleasure to hear that :)
      Both motors are great... I chose the direct drive hub (magnets inside) motor because I love to use hand throttle a lot. So the chain and gears do not wear out and the chain does not need to be lubricated often. If you love to use PAS then bafang is also a good choice.
      The 3kw battery weighs anywhere from 14-16kg.

    Throttle only got 600 km is very far. Looks like with a smaller battery and pedalling with the PAS system rather than throttle only could get a similar result.
    But 300 km a day is too much for many people

      Hey. Thanks for the comment.
      Indeed, with 2kW and PAS I've got 340km and ~ 2KW of consumed current, strong headwind + tailwind. These tests are exciting to do. I wonder what my daily limit is in the end. Is it possible to cover 500km a day, for example :)?
