This is currently my favorite with 2013 and Evil Dead 2 following behind (in no particular order). Also, the show is only like 15 hours total. 3 seasons each consisting of 10 half hour episodes. You don't necessarily have to do reactions to the show, but reviews for each season would be nice.
I think the problem is that they couldn’t go too ‘hardcore’ with the child characters, therefore Ellie for example can only do *intimidating* things around those characters but never actually really attack them, and it loses suspense after a while. Though they do get attacked and infected, you know she’s not gonna ragdoll the toddler until she’s holding nothing but a dismembered leg, or carve the son’s eyes out of his face, so they have to write the character dancing around them instead of viciously attacking. Beth’s the main character who lives by the end so you can’t mess her up too much, but I mean after Ellie gets locked out she murders the entire hallway in like 30 seconds, so she could’ve tried harder I don’t know that I or anyone else would have wanted to actually see kids hurt like that in a movie though, maybe it just shouldn’t have been about a family. Or have at least one of the kids be closer to 18-ish so they can get brutalised without it being ‘too far’.

How you expected the elevator scene to go, so did I, as it did in the film before it, this happened to me atleast 3-4 times throughout this film, it’s still a great movie but I saw the build up in this movie to certain scenes and expected the absolute worst, much like we got in the last film, however those 3-4 scenes fell short to what I was expecting, not a bad movie at all, absolutely solid sequel to the 2013 reboot, I just thought it was going to go harder in some scenes. The cat was another example, I love cats more then anything else in this world, but in the last film we saw “grandpa” the dog get a horrific ending, so when the cat was introduce then highlighted again later in the film I thought to myself “oh boy here we go, this shit is about to break me” then nothing happened.. Loved the movie but the 2013 reboot scared me more, it wasn’t “better” it just pushed my buttons way harder then this one. The acting all around was solid and the mother was amazing in her role. Yeah, Im gonna be reeeeeeal honest. This was an overall disappointment for me after 2013. The gore was mostly up to par (the eyeball part was so fucking stupid and corny it was hard to watch lol) and Alyssa Sutherland was the perfect choice since they couldn't do Mia again (because the actress wanted a break), but the story doesn't measure up AT ALL compared to the first. In the first, they had a reason to be out in that cabin -to detox Mia-, they had a reason to not let her leave and take away her agency - she was an addict who would certainly try to bail at some point, and everything happened so quickly and realistically, the demon never let up and there were no moments of knowing what would happen. In Rise, I knew the pregnant sister and little girl would survive the entire time- this is why I hate kids in horror movies. If you're not willing to kill them all, literally any character, you're not gonna have a scary horror movie imho- it's just gonna be predictable. The movie starts with completely unrelated and unimportant characters only to tie it back at the end to those same boring, unimportant characters as if they mattered at all to the plot. I didn't care about the relationship between the kids, mother, and sister AT ALL and I think it's because they merely exist without conflict. Mia and her brother David had the kind of trauma that sticks and I'd believe those two would be prime candidates for possession, lots of room for the demon to exploit the pain. Also, pretty much all scenes were done better in 2013 as far as atmosphere and shots. This one was okay with that. There were some things I liked a lot like the shots thought the peep hole and her falling back into the tub and coming out of it. SHE WAS WONDERFUL. 11/10 so no complaints about Alyssa lol. Thought I personally would've preferred Mia and still hope they bring her back when the actress is ready to reprise, because like Ash, she can't be replaced, not even by Alyssa. Idk, I await another Evil Dead and hope for a film that has a simple but realistic and effective story while incorporating all of the elements of surprise and gore 2013 had- Rise was not that. IDEC that Bruce Campbell produced it lol. I'd love to see Ash and Mia join forces or even have separate films. Overall, Rise was a 7/10 for me. Good, but not great.

Yeah, Im gonna be reeeeeeal honest. This was an overall disappointment for me after 2013. The gore was mostly up to par (the eyeball part was so fucking stupid and corny it was hard to watch lol) and Alyssa Sutherland was the perfect choice since they couldn't do Mia again (because the actress wanted a break), but the story doesn't measure up AT ALL compared to the first. In the first, they had a reason to be out in that cabin -to detox Mia-, they had a reason to not let her leave and take away her agency - she was an addict who would certainly try to bail at some point, and everything happened so quickly and realistically, the demon never let up and there were no moments of knowing what would happen.
In Rise, I knew the pregnant sister and little girl would survive the entire time- this is why I hate kids in horror movies. If you're not willing to kill them all, literally any character, you're not gonna have a scary horror movie imho- it's just gonna be predictable. The movie starts with completely unrelated and unimportant characters only to tie it back at the end to those same boring, unimportant characters as if they mattered at all to the plot. I didn't care about the relationship between the kids, mother, and sister AT ALL and I think it's because they merely exist without conflict. Mia and her brother David had the kind of trauma that sticks and I'd believe those two would be prime candidates for possession, lots of room for the demon to exploit the pain. Also, pretty much all scenes were done better in 2013 as far as atmosphere and shots. This one was okay with that. There were some things I liked a lot like the shots thought the peep hole and her falling back into the tub and coming out of it. SHE WAS WONDERFUL. 11/10 so no complaints about Alyssa lol. Thought I personally would've preferred Mia and still hope they bring her back when the actress is ready to reprise, because like Ash, she can't be replaced, not even by Alyssa.
Idk, I await another Evil Dead and hope for a film that has a simple but realistic and effective story while incorporating all of the elements of surprise and gore 2013 had- Rise was not that. IDEC that Bruce Campbell produced it lol. I'd love to see Ash and Mia join forces or even have separate films.
Overall, Rise was a 7/10 for me. Good, but not great.
