    Ai isn’t democratizing art, it’s democratizing laziness, cheapness and dehumanization

      You could certainly make that argument, but you could also make that argument about any new tech or tool. Imagine a generation of people who dug out housing foundations with shovels saying “these new mechanical diggers make everyone so lazy!” Standards change, expectations increase, and we are all generally better off for it.
      Same will happen with AI generated media. The people who use it most effectively will benefit the most. Eventually competition will increase, and with it will come new standards of content.
      Just as with the mechanical digger, if the standards, expectations, and everything else stayed the same, sure, the physical act is easier. Those things never stay the same though.
      And the reason that art becomes democratized is because when EVERYONE has the physical ability to paint as well as Matisse, the focus transcends the medium. What message does your art send? How well can you connect with your viewer? What can YOU conceptualize and what do YOU make people feel?
      In reality, the same can be said for any differing medium of art. Most people today would consider a successful photographer like myself an artist. I can’t paint for shit. Would a painter from a century ago still call me an artist?
      “Is that art?” Is a question as old as humanity, and the truth is that there is no Gatekeeper, nor should there be. Anything is art if you call it art.

    you missed the fact that they used YOUR work and mine to train the AI and now they will put you out of business without any remuneration....

  • @klarion

    well, first they cut rates by 60% then they announced they created AI image generation using "their" stock collection (using creator owned images), now they are saying they will allow you to opt out from having your images used for AI generation but only months after they roll out a system that will put you out of business by using your own work. Pure evil.

    Dude you nailed it, thx for beeing open and honest. I drastically reduced my stock output after "this person doesnt exist" and now I see that it was the right decision.

    Bill Gates once said “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”
    The problem is, tech doesn't play on the level of people...technological advancements compound on each other and the resulting rate of progress is exponential.
    I think some truly shocking things are going to come out of this decade. Some of these technological advancements will indeed benefit humanity as a whole, but as always, there will be winners and losers.
    The modern humans that succeed in this era will stay curious, stay abreast of trends, and ultimately do everything in their power to avoid their careers becoming another tasty snack for the hardware and software eating the world. Everyone else just floating through life, working their job, taking it day by day...well, say a prayer for them.

      You said it all. Tech compounds on itself and the world is now changing at a faster rate than it ever has before (and will continue even faster). The most adaptable people are the ones who will see the most success.

    Can you explain with example how can we do better than AI and keep earning with stock images and videos ? Or we won't be able to earn any money is this a case ?

    • @callmelil
      @callmelil  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really tough. I think AI has more or less put stock PHOTOGRAPHY out. We were already strecthed as photographers, and this is a nail in the coffin. There is certainly still money to be made in stock VIDEO, but right now, AI generated video is about where AI generated photos were 2 years ago (personal estimate). It might take AI video a bit longer to get where photos are, but I think it's only a matter of time. Whether you want to invest in stock video is your choice. It depends on how quickly you think AI video will develop. IMO, if you can do high quality video and you job pays you less than ~$20/hour, it's still worth the investment. But it won't be forever

    This prime lens blurry background isn't always great for everything is it.

      It’s good for isolating subjects-better for run and gun/unplanned photo and video, which is how I prefer to shoot. But no..not perfect for everything

      @@callmelil It definitely helps to focus on you more in a way but I believe simply reducing sound background noise does the job just fine without the white blur hitting the viewer in the face making it hard to watch but maybe not for everyone, this is Just my personal opinion as a photographer. In fact for some it can make it more difficult to focus on you. Regardless a very interesting video, enjoyed it very much and thank you for sharing your point of view I appreciate it and find it very interesting too.

    Also, they already are paying embarrassingly low commissions. Now, to train the model, they used millions of images... but they are selling each image for cents. So, what's your share/??? one millionth of a cent? C'mon

    • @callmelil
      @callmelil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I didn’t include that part in the video, because I didn’t really think people would understand the details of how Shutterstock said they’d be paying creators. Just seems not even relevant at the end of the day, because there’s a 100% chance your “share” of training the AI is going to amount to almost nothing. It will certainly be a small fraction of their (already abysmally low) rates

    • @callmelil

      I want to be clear and reiterate that I believe there is still some money to be made in stock video (not really photos). As long as it aligns with everything else I’m working on, I will probably keep submitting. That said, as an entrepreneur who thinks a lot about where to invest your limited time, you have to look at this trajectory and make smart choices based on where we’re headed..and not just where we are right now.
      One thing that bots and AI will have a hard time with for a very long time is connection, story, purpose. If you’re like me, you love video. I personally hope to put more time into creating videos that bring people together. Submitting my stock footage as byproduct of that.

    • @LuizAlleman
      @LuizAlleman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@callmelil yeah, you're right about that. I won't throw in the towel just yet. Hopefully AI will be just a way to aide in photography and film since it still lacks the "human" element. Thanks so much for the tip.
