Lastly, we need a smart, strong, firm, visionary, strategic, humane and incorruptible National Leader who is unshakable amidst adversity.

The first thing that they can do is to immediately takes steps as necessary to meet the contingency in accordance with the constitutional processes. Former Pres FEM already mentioned that during his time. Which means they need to go to the senate and the house of representatives that can cause delay. Having said that, it is not automatic that they can intervene whenever there's an aggression to us from other countries. The Philippines should not rely on the Mutual Defense Treaties. We must not rely and depend other countries to help Philippines safeguard its Sovereignty and the welfare of its people. Should a situation like Ukraine's come, we can't always rely on other nations' leader to unconditionally lend their help and support as they also have things, matters at stake and possible consequences to consider/think about should they decide to intervene and interfere to other country's crisis.
We should hope and pray that we'll not suffer the same fate.
But witnessing the current situation with Ukraine and Russia, our conflict with a particular nation; the Philippines government and its officials must reflect on these situations. They need to take careful plans and actions to ensure the security of our country against possible international/outside invasion and aggression.

I wonder how are we going to make independent foreign policy while relying on other nation's military strength in enforcing the arbitral ruling. There is an apparent less efforts on making our armed forces capable of defending and executing the international court ruling. Let's put it this way. China made its claim in the WPS using its nine-dash line, recognizing and enforcing it as if it is legal, notwithstanding of its inconsistency with the international law; simply because they have the capability to flex their own muscles. Similarly, try visiting Singaporean Foreign Policy and they recognize the role of military in enforcing an independent one. There is no key on making an independent foreign policy and defending the integrity of our national territory, but strengthening our own military capability - which will balance the diplomatic ties (without our necks being held) and lawful fulfillment of the law of the sea.

Ukraine is not in any or treaty or ally, so they're left alone. Tama si Senator Kiko, we can ally with other ASEAN, countries who has claims in the West Philippine Sea instead to strengthen cooperation. We cannot deal with China bilaterally dahil tiyak na tiyak may i-cocompromise tayo sa territory natin. The main reason why Ukraine wanted to join NATO originally is because they felt threatened when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. The whole world was shocked by this bold move by Russia. Remember that NATO is a defensive alliance originally made to curtail the Soviet Expansion. The scenario of Ukraine being with NATO is already a big deterrent in itself. Russia invaded Ukraine before it joins NATO because they want to avoid clashing with NATO sooner. The main reason Russia invaded it is because they want Ukraine.
