As always, as a freebie, highly recommended for F2P players, budget players, and those with few T6 ships. 3/3 hurts, but you start learning to let other sources of damage do the work for you. Well, one of my kdf toons has the t5 from the lobi store and the core and omni from the set at mk15 UV already. So I guess I could update that old build with some Ba'ul ap's. Although not having the lobi Ba'ul set and sentry mode console will hurt quite a bit.
If you do the event campaign, you'll be able to get more lobi-stuff if you really want, but that's still pretty far in the future. I'm buying basic ba'ul from the exchange, myself, awaiting a lobi store sale.
They really need to overhaul the engineering abilities to make them more useful... Will I get the Vovin? Yes, it is free. Will I use the ship enough to get the trait on most characters? Yes, I use the Norway with Type 7s on several characters regularly so it might be useful. Will I play the ship? Probably on my AP using character as they already have Iconian ship theming. So, even for casual FTP, not too exciting but at least it is a pretty ship.
ok.... this thing is bugged. I cant change the skin to anything but the T5 Oblisk carrier... and EVERY TIME I go to rename it, the game crashes. EVERY TIME. ive never had this issue before... and Ive been playing sense Beta.
It will turn better than the original Obelisk but the seating for sci/tac is really bad. Gonna use tac for the LC Uni myself. I get along just fine with eng though as my Cap is an eng. At least it looks good but it will be an admiralty ship after I get the trait done(even though I won't use it).
If it was a 4/3 or a 4/4 with a full Lt comander tact or sci I would be down for it. but as it stands I won't even bother doing the event, I'm playing Wow right as I'm so tired of anything being decent being locked behind gamble. I get it the company needs money but once in a while we could get thrown a bone and get something decent.
Love the Risa Summer Event. Best platform to meet and make new friends in game, in my opinion. Last year, the Hyperion Battle Cruiser was actually pretty surprisingly sweet. Fantastic Admiralty Card too. But this Vovin Carrier looks kind of like a flying brick. I’ll claim it - but it’s getting mothballed immediately as the only advantage seems to be a free, decent Maintenance Admiralty Card. Disappointed. Was expecting at least a fun decent ship this year - not a useless flying brick.
This ship is okay if you don't have the Hur'q Dreadnought Carrier, but not if you do. Will get it for completion's sake, but will likely never fly it, as I have the Hur'q carrier and it's much better (for me).
The weapon slots kills what would have been a halfway good ship, honestly. It could be worse, but again... another ship that still isnt as good as what we already have in any category.
One thing that you didn't mention in this video, it's very poor when it comes to Unconventional Systems triggers, even more so if you use that Universal seat as a Tac seat.
Why all the hate for this ship I don't understand? 1. It's a free ship 2. The summer ships aren't that good anyway (as far as I know) 3. Don't all the carriers in the game have a 3/3 layout anyway? Someone please help me with this....
1. Free for the first month. 1k Lobi for a year after. Then 2+ years for it to be put in mudd's store for ~$42. 2. The hysperian from last year was good. 3. Flight Deck Carriers are 5/3 or 4/4 with 2 hangar bays.
Event ships can be plenty good. The Cnidarian Defender can be one of the most powerful and mechanically unique ships in the game. The Hysperian cruiser has a great console and trait for Disruptor and exotic damage types builds. The Fek'ihri Byr'Jai is a mean and nimble little anomaly spammer (albeit extremely fragile). The Temerian Depp Space Cruiser is a solid ship with a very useful console/trait combo which lets you switch off enemies shields in an AOE, then debuff their DPS output significantly with a weapons hit. The Jarok Alliance Carrier is a beautiful ship with a good console for carriers and pet builds. and decent hangar pets etc. All decent and useful and often quite unique and fun to fly. And the best choice for anyone who can't afford to buy regular T6 ships yet.
That's the thing that annoys me. This ship should INCLUDE the previous ship and the new Dyson's should include the previous ones - mostly because those set pieces are just wasted not being used on old tech - but there's zero incentive to buy old ships and bundling them into the new ones encourages people to buy the new ones. Nothing is as frustrating as incomplete sets.
Subsystem targeting is worthless. Only if they upped it to something like a 90% chance of working is it worth using. Giving up cruiser commands is rubbing salt and sand into the wound. Its amazing that one set of ships gets the heavy penalty for having two hangers. Yet the other, none to speak of (FDC).
They can. But more as secondary damage sources. You even can do dual cannons, but this being a full seat command carrier, a torp build seems the logical choice.
Well it at least looks nice and I can run a good amount of isomags on it. I already have stronger carrier's for elite TFO's but I most olay advanced TFOs for fun. This will perform well enough for those I'm forced to run only beams on it. I really can't stand science ships. Legendary Voyager is the only one I liked.
I haven't missed an event ship for almost ten years so I'll put in some effort to log in to get this completed. With that being said the ship looks very underwhelming. The 3/3 weapon layout is awful especially when combined with the weak consoles and trait. The seating, turn rate, and bad pets ( I remember them as bad but it might just be me) doesn't help either. Regardless, thanks for another very informative video, take care.
Because carriers have 2 hangars as additional "weapons". Thus making them practically 5/3. Carriers should focus on their hangar pets and summons, also EPG/control with weapons as secondary. They're generally more support focused. Since this one is a Command carrier, putting a Torpedo build on it should prove plenty effective. And with its many engineering console slots, you can put on plenty of the hangar pet boost consoles.
But also, anyone saying this is deluding themselves or trying to trick others. By this logic, all normal science vessels would already be obsolete because multi mission science vessels and science dreadnoughts exist. They're just sci vessels but better, right? You know that isn't true. There are more factors to consider than just having a hangar.
Eh, I just like the ship. *shrug* If it brings a smile to my face as I mess around casually, it's done its job, and you can't beat that for free. (Yes, I have the current one, too.)
Nice hull stats, nice hull regen console, no free RFC console so meh, performs like a normal full carrier but with little exotic dps. Torpedo build it if you want but even that will be suboptimal. I dunno about this ship...
It feels like CasualSAB is measuring this Carrier by the wrong metrics. The Obelisk can pump out massively more pet torpedoes then most FDC’s pets due to the link between Command Kodai and Inspiration. Inspiration is critical for anyone building a high end Federation pet Carrier build or building torpedo pet spam builds. 3 and half hangar bays worth of pets all with EPtW from the ship being passed to the pets. Inspiration, Commander Command, low rank MW all included which are key elements in high end pet/minion builds. Its not the best but its right up there near the top Carriers for pet/minion builds and all for free. If we judge it as a carrier for carrier builds based around minion/pets as primary damage its an amazing ship.
I like your thinking. 3.33 hangar bay power assuming your 4pc spits out buffed, buffable obelisks. Shame they're not that good though. I'll be putting elite alliance fighters on this, flying it maybe twice then shelfing it because it's meh, even for pet build.
@@redwren4182 I plan to attempt to push it to 700k to 1+million on my full pet build. So I don't get all the people calling it meh for a Carrier. It should going by its layout be one of the top performing pet damage build carriers in game. As long as you don't use weaker pets like Alliance Fighters.
@@redwren4182 For a pet build on a pet carrier like what this carrier is designed around pretty much yes. Switching this ship to a Commander Sci wouldn't really help pet DPS on a high end Carrier pet build. All the people saying this is a meh carrier or the Bridge officer layout is bad are showing they don't know much about high end carrier pet builds.
@@vorgonrynkodan1569 it's not that I don't know much about carrier builds but I'd hardly call it high end when it's base damage is at 75% FDC. FDC or even dreadnought carrier is where the bar is set for high end carrier builds, but not this 3/3 loadout drivel. Edit, that's why added sci commander for increased exotics comes handy for making up lost DPS on a bad ship layout. Yes this is putting MW and CMD aside because high end FDCs have this already. You COULD put an expensive high end build on it 😂, but you're forever capped at 75% weapon potential.
STU1701 did make a Budget Starter Build for Elites, he used the Legendary Akira but it can be adapted to most Commandant Ships, think that build could work well on this Obelisk Carrier th-cam.com/video/7qKOZM66nZ4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9aY679mAz-Wv-Oee
Useless, what a missed opportunity not tying this ship into the new Proton Weapon Set and other Dyson Ships... mind boggling how useless these developers are, also not upgrading the T5 version of the console is another strike... on the other hand it frees me up to skip the entire summer event this year \o/\o/\o/
I'm a collector, so I won't skip. But I totally get ya. If you really liked the original Obelisk, now you can get a T6. But that's about all this offers.
I kinda like carriers… setting the pets to defend you offsets the weapons. I love my ahwanee as it has loads of support pets (2 hangers + Museum console + fleet support + type 14 shuttles + escorts + others). Basically I was shredding through Guillotine this last month. My other carriers (the Disco Enterprise flight deck carrier) is amazing.
Sabs reviews are always the same. He is a STO whale and his thought process reflects this. Always compares free event ships to P2W Cstore ships, then says the Cstore ships are better. Comparing the free Vovin to the Awhanee is a joke. This ship is good but it doesn't compare to this $30 ship. Gosh golly gee I wonder why the $30 ship is better then the ship they are giving you for free during the event. Just for once do an honest review from a ftp player perspective and judge the ship on that, not how fat your wallet is.
Important to keep in mind that Event Ships are only free for a single month. In this case, if you miss this event in July of 2024, you will have an opportunity for the next 10-11 months to purchase it for 1,000 Lobi Crystals, which have a value of ~$200. After that, in about 2 years it will either end up in the Phoenix or Mudd's stores, where it will cost much more than $30.
@@CasualSAB That's a problem with the game developers and the way they run things. Take the Voven. Why is the Obelisk still 800 lobi when they have made an updated version? The price should be dropped or it should be removed from the lobi store, or retired and its console added to the Voven.
Do you think the 4 piece console set is a way for them to test out how a 3 hanger carrier performs? I know for awhile now players have complained about some carriers not feeling like true carriers and talk of a third hanger is common. I wonder if this is a test for a possible 3 hanger carrier.
I agree, but hopefully you understand also why I often am comparing these event ships to more premium offerings. Because for anyone not playing in this month, it isn't free. As for the T5 Obelisk, the price absolutely should be lower now, but they want to monetize off people going for the set. And for the 4pc, yes, but my concern with that now is that some of the recent carrier powercreep caps out at buffing two bays of pets. If this is a new trend, need them to increase the cap for how many pets are buffed by things like Fleet Power Network Array and the Credence console.
seems decent enough for a free event ship, I was never expecting top quality so I'm not disappointed
You'll never get top quality from a 3/3 loadout carrier

This ima get, sure I got the T5 but other charcters on my account could use it!!!
ok.... this thing is bugged. I cant change the skin to anything but the T5 Oblisk carrier... and EVERY TIME I go to rename it, the game crashes. EVERY TIME. ive never had this issue before... and Ive been playing sense Beta.
Known bug, devs are on it and should have it fixed soon.
@@CasualSAB I hope so... this is the hardest ive seen them drop the ball.
It will turn better than the original Obelisk but the seating for sci/tac is really bad. Gonna use tac for the LC Uni myself. I get along just fine with eng though as my Cap is an eng. At least it looks good but it will be an admiralty ship after I get the trait done(even though I won't use it).
I use all carriers as assualt carriers... so, this will allow me to hang around in combat for longer than the others...
Just a reminder, on the flight deck carriers you can't equip frigates.
Too bad all frigate pets really garbage now.
@@tomasr. The strongest pet in game is a Frigate. Not all of them are garbage.
doubt ill use any of it on my current carrier
If it was a 4/3 or a 4/4 with a full Lt comander tact or sci I would be down for it. but as it stands I won't even bother doing the event, I'm playing Wow right as I'm so tired of anything being decent being locked behind gamble. I get it the company needs money but once in a while we could get thrown a bone and get something decent.
2nd!
I'll be having a lot of fun with this ship. Not everything is about "optimal". Can't wait for the Summer Event!
This ship is okay if you don't have the Hur'q Dreadnought Carrier, but not if you do. Will get it for completion's sake, but will likely never fly it, as I have the Hur'q carrier and it's much better (for me).
I'll get the ship however I'm disappointed in the fact it's only a 3/3 weapon layout
1. It's a free ship
2. The summer ships aren't that good anyway (as far as I know)
It's a sci carrier with no sci seating
Will beams work on a ship like this?
Yes
They can. But more as secondary damage sources. You even can do dual cannons, but this being a full seat command carrier, a torp build seems the logical choice.
They really should buff carriers...
Why do they like to do a 3/3 weapon layout? You can't do very much with that.
It costs Lobi? That's kinda dumb but I guess that's fine since we're getting 500 from the current event
You can get it free playing for 20/30 days during the Summer Event, but if you miss that there will be a lobi buyout available for it.
@@CasualSAB ah ok thanks I've only been playing for a few months so I'm not too experienced
all sci carriers need either more weapons or a secondary deflector, change my mind
They needs a Com Array which is a new slot to boost pets. A Secondary deflector would be a disaster making many Sci ships pointless over Carriers.
I would like that too, but I don't see them adding a totally new equipment type and a slot for it at this point.
Why would anyone expect a 5/3 on this ship? They have never given away a flight deck carrier. Bois we flying this one for the barbie.
@@vorgonrynkodan1569 because you're thinking you can get more DPS from commander engineer than commander sci. Lol
STU1701 did make a Budget Starter Build for Elites, he used the Legendary Akira but it can be adapted to most Commandant Ships, think that build could work well on this Obelisk Carrier

yuk
As soon as I read “Reconstructive” in the trait name, I said HARD PASS… probably a little bit of an overreaction, but not by much.
Their obsession with 3/3 is disappointing.
Im little disappointed, i wish that will be flight deck carrier.
Yeah 3/3 is really disappointing
I don't see how they can justify calling this a T6 with a 3/3 weapons layout.
P.s. The ship is once again all flash no substance
Admittedly the stats are decent but Im still going to pass. Im tired of the same 3/3 format for carriers.
So basically it is a free rubbish ship..awesome
still a free ship better to get it than not
command seats are almost useless
Completely meh stats, except maybe the seating.
3 3 is the biggest disappointment.
A ship is only as limited as the one flying it
Useless, what a missed opportunity not tying this ship into the new Proton Weapon Set and other Dyson Ships... mind boggling how useless these developers are, also not upgrading the T5 version of the console is another strike... on the other hand it frees me up to skip the entire summer event this year \o/\o/\o/
3/3 carriers are very sad in today's state of the game. Good looking ship though
I'm gonna skip this ship.
I don't blame you. I hate ships with 3.3 weapons
I'm a collector, so I won't skip. But I totally get ya. If you really liked the original Obelisk, now you can get a T6. But that's about all this offers.
Better have a thing and not need it, then need it and not have it.
People said the same about the Jellyfish...
I donno, for this also this ship a 50/50 mix of solanae, iconian tech! In it
Sabs reviews are always the same.
I don't play a carrier build. So this ship is useless to me. Carriers in general are not worth it.
