I'm watching this in June 2019. Somehow I must have missed this one. It's like finding one extra beer right at the back of the fridge.

Joe, you are such a great dad! I was Army for 22 plus years and my approach to waking everyone up, even my own kids was more akin to rattling a trash can! You get father of the year award every year in my book. You fill up the fire box, you cook, you get everyone up! You’re so encouraging to your kids. On your winter trips you go make sure your parents cabin is ok! I wouldn’t listen ever to the Negative Nellies that post on here, most are only saying negative stuff because they don’t have the ambition, or fortitude to do what you’ve done! Love your videos and keep it up!

Just watching this again...looking forward to the 2017 deer camp movie! I see you marinating that meat in the beginning with the State Fair Spiedie Marinade! That’s a product that comes from my hometown! We have a food kind of invented here in upstate NY called the Spieide. It can be any type of meat chunked up and marinated, grilled on skewers then eaten on a roll or Italian bread. Most common are chicken, pork or beef spiedies. We even have a Spiedie Fest here every year! That’s just awesome to see it sold in markets around the US!

throw the foil wrapped spuds in the camp fire, taste wonderful and done in half an hour, split open slather with butter and cream yummy. Spuds wrapped in a thick wad of wet newspapers will taste as good. You can use casava or sweet potatoes too

Another great vid. Thank you for making and sharing it. It was slow here in NY as well this season. It's not always about killing a deer. It also about the time in the woods with family and friends. I tell people all the time, the best memories you will ever have is time spent in the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking, or camping. You nail that feel with each vid you make. Let us know how that way of making ribs works out. I am a fan of low and slow over coals, or indirect heat.

During my high school days, every Saturday during the winter we used to snow shoe in the woods in the morning, then stop and make a fire and have lunch. The kippered snacks were always part of my lunch menu. They go really nice with the smoke of the camp fire. It's good to know you like them too.

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+Rob Bobcat A bad winter really does some damage to the deer herd. In MN the wolves can get them so easy with the deep snow and there is much less browse for them to eat so they get weak. This winter seemed fairly mild and last winter was not real bad but the prior winter was a real bad one. I am hoping that now that 2 seasons have passed since the bad winter the numbers will be moving back upwards. Good luck in Maine and stay tuned for this years videos this fall. Let me know how you do this coming season. Thank you. Joe

Been looking forward to this vid, just like heading up to Twin @ my bud's cabin. A little piece of heaven I don't get too nearly enough.
Hate to say it, but if you want to harvest deer, you'd be better off staying in Nowthen. I completely understand going up to the tent & the family event, but you can do that any time.
At Dad's farm, only a couple miles from your house, my 1/2 brother took a giant 10 pointer at first light opener morning. Then my nephew harvested a nice 6 point about 300 yrds from there only 1/2 an hour later. Nice fat & lazy corn fed monsters. I nearly took a couple with the combine the other day, not even trying.
My Two Harbors crew shoot their deer at home on the homestead property, then we all go up to Twin to hang out drink beer & have a good time. Already got the tags full - we go fishing.

+waults Sara has been out hunting behind the barn. HWY 22 is the metro zone cut off and I am just south of that so its one buck and unlimited doe. The season also stays open until the 29th down here. I figure there will still be a deer video. I have shot many deer down here but you cant beat deer camp and what it represents. Thank you. Joe

My Dad's place is 1/2 way down 22 where it runs north/south, east from the Church on the hill west of Nowthen. You or Sara would be welcome to hunt out there while the season is still open.
PM me if you want to come out, I'll set it up.
And keep the tent vids coming, maybe one of these days I'll shoot a cabin vid of my own & share. I'm looking for a chunk of land for my own in the Brimson / Highland area.

I fly down to Louisiana this coming Wednesday and across the street from Melissas they have Jambalaya Saturday and you can buy it right out in front of the store. +Joe “EP1K” KINNEY Its bucks only Joe. It used to always be bucks only then a few years back they had buck or doe. The DNR admits that they really screwed up the deer management plan and now are trying to re build the herd. I never cared about the bucks only because it seemed like when you saw a deer 75% of the time it was a buck. Now it seems strange to be seeing so many doe but that just means more for next year. +Carolina Prepper Thank you. I had over 7 hours of video footage, it took me over 9 hours to edit it and I only had some of the evening to do it so it took all week. The file was so big that my computer could not handle it so as I edited it would chop through the video footage so most of the editing was done by sound since the video would lag behind. The computer would not let me watch the finished video while it was still a "project", it would just have sound and freeze the video so I had to let it render and compress the video which took a total of about 8 hours after I did the 3 step process. Once that was done it was then just a long video and all the clips were not with it in the memory. So after 17 hours I could finally watch it and see how I did. I was lucky this time and did not have to go back and re edit something and the then go through the rendering process again. I see a couple little mistakes I made but no double clips or anything. Then with the crappy dsl internet I have here at the house (its the fastest I can get here) it took about 21 hours to upload. Please watch the commercials, I need a new computer. hahahaha. Thank you for the nice comment. Joe

I can't remember, is the land you hunt public or private? If private, can you make and timber stand improvements to hopefully increase the local deer population?

Great video. enjoyed every minute. You folks know how to do deer camp up right. More people went into the outdoors I think the Country would be a better place.

I like a thumb guard on a knife incase the handle gets wet, they keep your hand from slipping.

I agree. My Dad tells a story of how my Grandfather cut himself real bad using a knife with no guard. I always think about that when im using a knife without one. Thanks Brenda. Joe

love the videos! you go to great trouble to capture details that seem insignificant such as whipping snow off the truck and kranking it up. but these details actually make the film what it is. it's a lot of work setting the camera up and capturing it. thank you!
