    Hi there, My light stopped turning on, looks like it's out of battery. There is a battery sign on the display when I try to turn it on, How do we charge the battery on this light?

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, the light is AC power unless you use a V Mount battery. You’ll need to charge the V mount battery if that’s how you were using it.

      ,@@SpencerStanley I am using AC power, not sure why this happened. It started working after a couple of hours! Thank you :)

    Cool video and short presentation! I just ordered mine and can't wait for it to arrive. It will be a big upgrade to my current Neewer 660 LEDs!

    how big honey comb would you suggest for this light ?

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just depends on what you’re trying to achieve with it. I often use a 38in parabolic softbox without the honeycomb attached. I don’t mind the light spill but if you’re trying to have a focused source I’d use one. The light has a fairly high output for a small key so you can get away with a lot.

    • @SpencerStanley

      I have a larger and small neewer softbox. They’re super affordable and work really well. Easy setup. If you want something a little higher quality that will last you a long time aputure makes some great products.

    So this video was shot using the SL60?
    Would you recommend the sl60 the lighting in this video looks pretty good. which one has more value for the price? SL60 or the VL150

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did! The SL60W is a great value for the money but like I said I’ve only had issues with mine making a bit tough to recommend. I’d say if you’re willing to spend a bit extra the VL150 is WAY better value for $.

    • @SoloTraceur
      @SoloTraceur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's always valuable to invest in a brighter light. You can always dim it right down. With a lower power light, if it's at 100% and still not bright enough, you're stuck and will have to make other sacrifices like aperture and ISO etc.

    What is the size of softbox you used ?

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vi, I typically use my Neewer 38" parabolic softbox. I recently purchase a smaller Neewer 26" just because the 39" is HUGE. It's great to use if you have the room but sometimes it's easier to just use a smaller diffusion option.

    Excellent review! Do you think the VL150 shooting through an umbrella would make for a solid key light for video production?

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use a softbox! I haven't used umbrellas much but the 150 is a great key through a nice softbox.

    Have you found a fresnel lens adapter that works with VL150?
    Thanks for this video.

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I honestly haven't used fresnel lenses much because I prefer working with softer light. The light comes with a beauty dish that helps give a more concentrated light source if need be. I also have a barndoor + honeycomb setup that came with my Godox SL60W that I sometimes use.

    These lights are crap! Avoid at all cost. "Better than Aperture?" that's laughable. I purchased 2 of these. Both failed after little use. Look around on TH-cam. It's a lemon. This product almost lost me a client when it failed on an important shoot. No damage or misuse. Just failed. Avoid this item and spend a little more money for something better. Advice from a pro image maker of 30 years.

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it was a VL150? or 300? I've had mine for years and zero issues. I also have Aputure products.

    • @johnmarolakos9920
      @johnmarolakos9920 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SpencerStanley Both my VL150's died shortly after the warranty expired. One a few months after the first one died. The second one I purchased was only used once, put in a closet and 2 years later when I tried to start it up, nothing. The battery lights up, but, it doesn't provide power to the mono-head. Same issue with the first and only after minimal and gentle use. There are numerous complaints about the same issue occurring to others. Obviously, it's a slip shot operation with piss poor quality control and/or a fundamentally flawed design. I advise folks to stay away and go with Aperture if they can afford it.

    • @SpencerStanley
      @SpencerStanley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnmarolakos9920 I would completely agree that Aputure lights are much better, this video is fairly old. I’ve had zero issues with my VL150 though and use it in my studio with it running constantly, same with my cheap SL60W.

      @@SpencerStanley Oh I believe you. And I take no pleasure in contradicting your efforts to promote your channel and this product. However, given my awful experience of having not one, but two of these units fail and seeing the numerous complaints elsewhere, I felt a duty to inform seekers of lighting such as this one, that the company and this unit is most likely a bad investment. All the best, John
